I was wondering what my fellow Azurians thought of using GS movesets in the PBS? My opinion is it's not fair unless it's agreed upon by both parties ahead of time. I was using a silly theme team and decided to leave the battle after my opponent gained the advantage only after using a death Starmie. If a person needs to use GS movesets to do well at PBS especially against a fun team then he or she is a sorry individual.

Technically, I fail to see how using Metallic influences is any different than using Surfing Raichu or Amnesia Golduck.

However, all the new Pokemon with Amnesia and Haze really warp the Chromatic "balance" (such as it is). You're forced to deal with a whole new set of standards, previously useless Pokemon become way stronger, stat changers become a lot easier to get rid of, etc.

So I can see why people don't want to fight them under normal circumstances.

Well, Surfing Raichu and Amnesia Golduck are part of PokeSta. It really depends on how much you consider PokemonStadium a part of RBGY.
Technically, it ain't GS, but it ain't on GameBoy either. This problem is traditionally solved by "Ya got Stadium? Then ya can use 'em," but in PBSs case, their power is open to anyone.

NickWhiz1: No, it wasn't you.

White Cat: I think there is a big difference between Metallic influences in RBY and Stadium influences. I think the programmers behind Pokemon thought not only would Surfing Raichu and Amnesia Golduck be a fun reward for playing Stadium but also turn two under powered Pokemon into contenders. Amnesia Golduck is still not as good as Slowbro and Surfing Raichu cannot usually take out pure ground types in a single hit but still almost always faints to a stab earthquake. Now GS moves on the other hand can really disrupt the balance of the game. I think some original Pokemon were given moves in GS that existed back during RBY because the programmers no longer thought it would be unbalancing. Take "Death Starmie" for example. In GS Starmie not only has more weaknesses but paralyzation and confusion can be countered with various items and what not. In RBY Death Starmie can become nearly unstoppable. There are no items to protect your Pokemon and Starmie is only weak to a few attacks with electric attacks being the only major worry. Even an electric type will probably not survive if it can't get a thunder wave in and Starmie thunder waves, confuses, and continually surfs it. Plus if you finally do get a hit in Starmie always has recover. That powerful move set from GS becomes nearly unstoppable in RBY. Sure you can probably faint it eventually but it may very well take out half your team before you do. Another example of this would be amnesia. Many more RBY Pokemon can acquire this in GS but unlike in RBY amnesia only powers up special defense not special attack and special defense. Again this is a move with more benefits and less drawbacks in RBY than in GS so I say the balance is eschewed. Now that was just two examples of GS influenced moves. I'm sure things get nastier if you study all of the ramifications.
