I celebrated by upgrading my satellite to HDTV today.

The bad news is that I no longer get MSNBC or Toon Disney or local channels
The good news is that I no longer get Fox News.

I now have a Kung Fu and Monster channel in HD.
TNT shows Law and Order in HD, I think.

Check out the Planet Earth series they just ran on Discovery. The narration sort of sucks, but the visuals are amazing. It's the first thing I've seen that's made me the slightest bit interested in getting HD.

ALSO: Some googling shows there's a David Attenborough version (the one they showed here was narrated by Sigourney Weaver). It was unclear whether the actual script changed, but I'm guessing it did, since I would have expected better from Attenborough's crew. Since the American version was edited down to jam in more commercials, it makes sense to look for the BBC version.

The BBC version follows the same script more or less, and it looks like costs less than the Discovery version. Sigourney Weaver sounds like shit anyway. The narration is a little dumbed down and not very in-depth about stuff, but they tell you enough so that if you're interested you know what to check out. I'd prefer to just watch them with the natural audio accompanied by music with no narration.
