Since everyone (myself included) seems to be bashing the new batch of DiaPer Pokemon, which monsters after the original 151 do you think not suck?
Me, I liked a handful of G/S beasties including the new -eons, Furret and Wobbuffet. Sort of liked Milotic in R/S.

I don't remember their name, but I liked a number of those guys who turned out to be basically be a font. Turned out to all be useless, though.
Looking at a page I googled up that doesn't have names, I like the look of this sort of shark/sunfish hybrid, a spindly 4-legged spider, and some kind of big crab with an X on his face.
Also whilst googling, I encountered a fine image:

I used that on a troll once. It was good times.
Was the X crab blue and metally? If so, that's Metagross, and he's fucking badass. He's right up there with Butterfree on the favorite scale, except I can use him in teams.
I am also fond of PorygonZ. His Adaptive trait gives him double STAB. 180 power Tri Attacks running on Alakazam-level SA? yesplz
I haven't warmed up to any of the new DP guys yet (except Mukkuhawk, who learns Wing Attack at Lv. 9 and gets a 120 power 100% Fighting attack) but I'm sure I will in time. Togepi's new third stage, Togekiss, looks capable of some incredibly broken shit, even though it looks mildly retarded (though most of the new evolutions look mildly to extremely retarded).
Oh, and Ice attacks are going to be coming back (not that they went anywhere) because of Gaburiasu, a Ground/Dragon with Machamp Attack and 102 Speed. And Swords Dance. And solid stats across the board. He's Dragonite-level, but holy damn. ~Uiru

Uiru: Was the X crab blue and metally? If so, that's Metagross...
Yes, this appears to be him.
I wonder if the cocks who run wikipedia would allow it to turn into a decent Azure-like repository of knowledge, or if they would throw it all out because, y'know, they're cocks.
Togepi's new third stage, Togekiss...looks mildly retarded...
True, but much less so than his previous forms.
Also that trilobite Pokemon isn't too bad. Oh yeah, and the coelacanth one. [ 01-29-2007, 12:36 AM: Message edited by: Mr. K ]

Damn it, the more I look at the new Pokémon, the more I think "That looks pretty neat"... My guess is I'll get the game because of this, then play it for a couple of hours, then scream in frustration "But I've seen all of this before! Goddammit, Game Freak, why couldn't you use your new Pokémon species in novel ways?!"
Anyway, from DiaPer, I like: (MAD SPOILERZOZRZ for those of you who don't want to see people discuss all the new species)
(I hope the image links works, maybe they use some kind of referrer checker or something, in which case you can probably just cut-n-paste) Dodaitos - I'm a sucker for grass Pokémon, and prehistoric Pokémon. This is essentially a dinosaur with a tree growing on his back - you do the math.
Cherimu - I like cherries. Mmm, cherries. But the cherry blossom Pokémon is just neater than the cherry Pokémon, which by the way is a pretty lame Pokémon idea. "Allright guys, we need one more Pokémon... I know! A *fruit with eyes!*"
Megayanma - I already liked Yanma (dragonflies are cool), and this is one next-gen evolution they *didn't* screw up.
Leafia - a grass type Eevolution? Looks like Vulpix, which I think is cute, and it's a grass type, so I like it.
Sheimi - aaaw, that's just cute. I bet chicks would dig it. And it's a grass type...
Neoranto - did I mention that besides grass types, I also like fish? Not the best post-RBY-fish type there is, but it appealed to me.
I could not find any pics of RuSa Pokémon, but I caught a glimpse of the anime yesterday, and the coelacanth Pokémon (Relicanth?) was there. It was pretty badass, being all coelacanthy and stuff. I remember liking Shroomish for the obvious Oddish cameo, plus also being a novel take on mushroom Pokémon.
Stuff I remember off the top of my head from GSC: Corsola (cool, a coral Pokémon - see, they can be innovative), marsheep and it's pink evolution (Was is marsheep?), the ninja spider (Ninjask?), Lanturn, Jumpluff... and some more I can't remember right now.

That's where I am too. For every two I don't like, I also think (e.g.) hey, I definitely need a sand hippo. Or a frozen radish.

I've seen some subsections of the wiki that have their own internal navigational structure. Our whole site could be folded into the wiki, although I've noticed that whenever something really useful is added, it's deemed too esoteric by whatever idiots are in charge and thrown out.
I was playing a bad online game and the authors and players started constructing an extensive explanation with strategies and formulae and TPTB decided that not enough people played the game, deleted the page and locked out attempts to recreate it.
...hey, I definitely need a sand hippo.
That would be nice, if didn't have to play another mutation of RBY to get it. [ 01-30-2007, 04:03 AM: Message edited by: Mr. K ]

I enjoy the queen bee and the goofy hot air baloon.
Basically, this version will almost certainly be better than the old ones, and we finally have the technology the game always should have had available to it.
Unfortunately, unless I can plan the game in suspended animation and put the rest of life on hold, that doesn't add up to very much.

Thrax: Was it that zombie game? Lemme know if you and the Project Rockstar people are playing anything else.
No, it was way worse. The zombie game is actually pretty good, in that you can get to griefing people right away and while working with others has benefits, you aren't totally fucked if you refuse to join some huge Wal-Mart clan full of idiots.
We've been looking for new games for years now, but it is amazing how bad most of them suck.
Many of them require that you join some large group of people you hate just to have a fighting chance.
And there are a ton of games where you do the basic dungeon farming thing where you have to stand in line to kill things repeatedly in a boring manner so that everyone can get the same fucking Gayesworde +2 or whatever. Some games are good at disguising the farming element...I'm playing one now where you shoot at enemies in realtime in flight-simulatory dogfights. It makes the actual killing process more interesting, but it's still the same fucking game, whether they call them "quests" or "missions".
There are really only a couple games out there and it's just a matter of whether they are decorated with elves or spaceships.
And most games that appear to be the slightest bit fun usually have overbearing "moderators" who make sure no one is accidentally entertained.
We participated in an extended wiki griefing for a while. That was kinda fun.
If anyone knows of a decent online game, we're certainly in the market for one. [ 02-03-2007, 07:30 AM: Message edited by: Mr. K ]

I'm actually more fond of each generation's new designs as opposed to the first gen's. Sure, RBY had mostly bright spots, but it also had Mr. Mime, Jynx, and the Speedofreaks. At least Mr. Mime and Jynx are fun to hate, and gained some redemption in Smoochum and Mime Jr. (the latter of which is cuter than I expected in the show). The only GSC Pokémon I really hated were Togepi and Togetic, and togekiss looks pretty cool to me so that guy's redeemed. The Advance and DS gens have exactly zero Pokémon that I just don't like.
So my favorites since RBY have been Aipom, Kingdra, Ampharos, Granbull, Yanma, Heracross, Houndoom, Steelix, Camerupt (because the moment a camel with volcanoes for humps stops being cool is the moment I admit defeat to the aging process), Skitty, Zigzagoon, Ninjask, Blaziken, Zangoose, Seviper, Tailow, Swellow, Torkoal, Rozeraid, Dodaitos, Empelt, Fire Monkey, Lucario, Eteboth, Leafia, Dootakun, Super Space-Action Magenton, Booburn, Elekible and Mukkuhawk.

K: I wonder if the cocks who run wikipedia would allow it to turn into a decent Azure-like repository Wintermute: How would they do that?
I asked this question backwards, in that I really meant, "how could they "allow" it, given that I can't see any grounds on which they would forbid it?" Fortunately you answered both.
K: I've seen some subsections of the wiki that have their own internal navigational structure. Our whole site could be folded into the wiki, although I've noticed that whenever something really useful is added, it's deemed too esoteric by whatever idiots are in charge and thrown out.
I see. Obviously the extent to which wikipedia should be (a) the repository of all human knowledge, versus (b) a general survey of a wide range of subjects, is a large messy issue. But I'm less inclined to jump into it because of how easy it is to just start another wiki.
That approach has advantages that I would think appeal to both sides. It's one thing to have an internal navigation structure - one of those little TOC boxes at the bottom, I guess you mean. But having one of those wouldn't prevent a disambiguation page for e.g. "Strength" reading:
1. Strength (a personal characteristic in FF 1) 2. Strength (a personal characteristic in FF 2) ... 235,152. Strength (a personal characteristic in the Herbie Goes Bananas RPG) 235,153. Strength, a property of materials (see Mechanics). 235,154. Strength (a personal characteristic in...) etc.
And as a fan of any particular game, I'd much rather be able to go hog wild without having to fight with the civilians and/or update a billion disambiguation pages.

Actually, I believe earlier pages about Pokémon on Wikipedia did delve into stats and stuff, but a lot of that was cleaned out to focus mostly on general information, with links to pages with more detailed info at the bottom.

There's a Pokemon wiki here:

Haven't really looked at it much, so I don't know what the community is like or how dumb the admins are.

That's a valid point and I suppose that's what's happened in this case and others, but it just seems like an inefficient reinvention of the wheel. You make a good argument for the distributed infrastructure, though.

I've actually seen pages with sidebars on both sides as well as the box on the bottom. Real site-within-a-site stuff.

A problem with wikis (versus an only-admins-can-change-stuff site like Azure) is that once you've put in your carefully researched data, you essentially have to guard it for the rest of eternity to prevent some kid from coming along and writing "you can get Mew by pushing the truck!" or somesuch.

Of course, we have the opposite problem with Azure, in that for years I've known that there is in fact a way to get Mew in RBY, but I've been too lazy to update the page.
The site is basically frozen in time now.

Yeah, I noticed that. Why did it take so long for the Mew stuff to get out?
And does anyone else find Wikipedia to be better a resource for Pokemon (articles on all 490-whatever, what the fuck) than Bulbapedia?
