Even though he was an idiot, at least he was courageous. Who would've thought it was going to be a stingray that did him in though?

I'll be honest. I was expecting it to happen via crocodile.

I'll be honest. I was expecting it to not happen at all. His death came as a shock to me - "Steve Irwin? DEAD? No way, it just can't happen!".
In retrospect, it's kinda obvious that it would happen eventually, it's just that he'd been doing his thing for such a long time that he seemed invincible. I wonder if he had similar thoughts and if that made him careless, or if this was just a freak accident. Apparently, the stinger hit him right in the heart, which is pretty unlikely (unless stingrays have really good aim).

They don't. He was the fourth person on record to die by stingray in Australia.
Law of averages, I guess.

They won't. Discovery issued a statement where they said something like "We will never show this footage to anyone, in fact, we think this footage should be destroyed."

I think I'm going to remember where I was when I found out Steve was dead the way people remember finding out about JFK.
The stingray thing is just so fucking bizarre. It could have hit him in the leg or the arm or the ass or whatever and he would have shrugged it off. Even if it speared him through the eye, he might have lived and then had even more character with an eyepatch and maybe another speech impediment.
I can't tell you how many stingrays I've been around who decided not to kill me. Hell, you can pet the fuckers at Sea World.
It'd have made more sense if an emu had kicked him to death or a koala smothered him in his sleep or something...
