that smiley with the sunglasses indicates an "i am right pleased with myself" attitude and frankly is not the kind of attitude we need here at Asian Heights Food Emporium
what we need is massage chairs and people who want to challenge the norms of society and think outside the box, not smarmy emoticons and a slightly hostile disposition to our fellow man

I have a red armchair, not sure if that's what you're looking for. If it is a villager wanting it, it doesn't have to actually have red in the name to suffice. Also it is Genji's birthday today, and I am often available except MWF afternoons (with notice to visit / open gates of course). Also I have added you both.

Is the new one worth it? I finally ran out of gas on the old one when my days consisted of buying krap I didn't want so I could get the lotto tickets.
I got all the fish, never got those fucking bees.

The DS version doesn't have the lotto tickets anymore, nor a few of the other more annoying aspects of the original. I don't think anyone misses mailing fossils. There's also a few things that just feel more streamlined: acre screen shifts are gone, and all the random occurences don't suddenly flip over at midnight. Unfortunately (and my main beef with the game), the controls are really not well thought out. Menu navigation is built around the stylus, which means button navigation suffers at times in minor but annoyingly unnecessary ways. Plus the stylus is pretty much useless for control in the field and is completely unintuitive in particular when trying to do stuff in your house.
More on the plus side: I haven't gone beyond the third expansion yet but I'm told the houses can now grow to insane proportions. Also item storage is much nicer, as cabinets now give you access to Post Office-style storage for 90 items.
But pretty much the story of the game is that it's more akin to an expansion pack than a sequel. There's lots more items, expanded museum collections and a few extra amusements like flower breeding and assorted head fashions, but nothing that really expands the whole Animal Crossing "formula" in any significant way. Really the two major reasons to get the game are that it's online and that it's portable. For me at least, the latter makes a huge difference, as popping it in for ten minutes on the go is a much better fit to the game and feels a lot less tedious than making a point of sitting down at the TV to do the daily chores.
Anyway... that was a longer post than I expected. But hey, maybe it'll be useful.
On bees - I used to get stung nearly every time, but a few days ago caught on to the trick; it's all about timing. When you hit the menu button and pull out the net, they'll inexplicably swirl around your head harmlessly. If you time the point at which you close the menu such that they're going backwards/upwards when you hit B (and positioned to your left or right), then when control is returned to you they'll be coming around at exactly the point in front of you where you can hit A and snag them before they have a chance to sting. Close the menu too early/late, and you either won't get a chance to swing the net or you'll swing and miss and then get stung. I've caught 6/8 of the bees since figuring that out, which at 4500 per bee is quite nice. Quite a random technique...
edit: note that this bee-catching method is totally different from the Cube version, as in WW when you enter the inventory the field shifts to the upper screen without pausing.
edit2: also this is the first thread I've been particularly interested in on Azure in over a year, it is a nostalgic feeling [ 01-22-2006, 03:04 AM: Message edited by: Rolken ]

This is a bit off topic, but now that we have the NWFC and Pearl/Diamond is pretty much revealed to have online compatibility (they'd be foolish not to implement it), not to mention backwards-compatibility with the Advanced generation...
Maybe, just maybe, this place will liven back up with actual Pokémon dialogue and actual online battles with the real game and not some net battle? You know, kinda dust off the old monster-training techniques and maybe get everybody back into the Pokémon games. It'd be nice... I guess. If you all haven't completely outgrown what all brought us here in the first place, that is.
Just an idea. Carry on crossing animals.

Unless there were some radical new element to the game (and net connectivity probably wouldn't be enough for me), I doubt it.
If they just keep churning out the same product with more species and more attacks, I don't really see a revival on the horizon.
But wtf do I know.

Agreed. And if wifi pulls the expected BS of forcing you to raise to lv100 to be competitive, it's worthless anyway.

If your campus is similar to either of the two I've been on, you likely need to get a MAC address from your DS and have that registered on the network. In addition, you may have to set up some proxies, though since I don't own a DS, I don't know how you could do either of these. Lastly, you'd also need to see what port the DS uses for communication and have that set to open, as most colleges are closed port connections, mostly for stopping filesharing services.

Another thing I remembered: the HRA is much more sensible in WW. You no longer can completely whore out your house to max HRA scores, as the game limits you to 24 items per room. The WW HRA also rewards you for coordinated colors/styles and proper feng shui, as opposed to the old HRA which was obsessed with set completion.

I dunno. Ranger is looking pret-ty interesting. And it's supposed to be compatible with Pearl/Diamond as well. Things may be changing for the better. Or at the very least, fresh things seem to be coming over the horizon.
I guess we'll see once it's finally out.

Is there actually any news on Pearl/Diamond? For spending enough time in development, the pokemon sequels sure never are terrifically inspired...
Edit: Whoa. This Pokemon Ranger actually looks different. Well, that's a step in the right direction. Let's see how it turns out... [ 01-28-2006, 04:30 AM: Message edited by: Rolken ]

As far as news, the only major points is that it'll be backward-compatible with the Advance generation (meaning all the work we've done since the reboot from first-gen won't be lost). The other news (which is more recent) is that there was a quick blurb from one of the developers' blog saying that P/D will make use of the NWFC, meaning there's a pretty good chance that we'll all finally be able to battle online with the actual games.
Also, yes. Ranger shows a lot of promise. I'm hoping that some of this gets integrated into P/D.

If they make the game so more than 10% of the species are useful, it could be OK, I guess.

Anyone else wanna see a focus on adventure and story, rather than "Catch all (n*100 + 51) Pokémon and become teh P0GEYMANZ MA5TER!!!!111"?
RuSa introduced a lot of new towns and such, but the core story was still the same. I also thought it was just an overabundance of stuff to keep track of. Plus that berry bug probably means I can't grow berries anymore (for those who forgot: a clock bug made berries stop growing after a certain date)
Meh, maybe I'm burning out on the Pokémon games. Ranger seems interesting though. And I still like the anime (well, before it became formulaic), but making the game like the anime would probably require taking it all online, which just means newbie infestation... probably...

does anyone else play this? I just visited my brother's town last night over Nintendo WFC and it was pretty entertaining. I would be interested in visiting more towns.
