Basicly what the author sais the generous american welfare system is to blame for looting in new orleans.

I was with him until he identified the man-made problem as "the welfare state". Up til then, I thought he was talking about neo-conservatism.

Explanation for the stupid: My original post (which blamed the hurricane itself on Africans farting) was poking fun at the article, wherein the moron posited that the main problem with the response to Katrina was black people.
I just went one step beyond and explained that the very hurricane itself was the fault of black people. Really, why fuck around with a middle man when you're a red state yahoo and you think hating black people is a productive way to critique society?
Sama's response "My mom says there's lots of black people in Africa" is a South Park quote, which is not parodying blacks, but stupid inbred red state yahoo fucks who know nothing about blacks (except to be afraid of them). Also it is very funny.
Man, this crowd sucks, it's like you were all drawn here by a desire to play some childish game or something...
Also that is an excellent bunny.

Everyone knows that's code for "black people". It's just like saying "urban". Racists have learnt to use code words so they can continue to be public racists without raising eyebrows.
Besides, he's obviously talking about more than the welfare state, given the way the column is written.
The article doesn't even mention blacks or minorities or immigrants or anything remotely race-related.
What he's really saying is very clear. Just because he's being polite about it doesn't change his meaning.
Just like when a Republican talks about "family/moral values" or "activist judges" or a Democrat talks about "homophobia" or the "right to choose". They say what they're saying without mentioning it explicitly, but everyone knows what's really being said, even when the code word means the opposite of literal definition.
I'm sure if you confronted the author of the column and accused him of being racist, he would pretend to be very offended and point out, as you did, that he never even mentions black people.
But it's clear what he's saying. People need to be called on their bullshit.

"Red state" is a descriptive term which is not always to be taken literally. It's just another code word. You know what I mean when I say it.
Anyway, I'm mostly referring to his audience, some of which might live in blue states. But they're still yahoos.

Hmmm. Agreed that "welfare state" is, like "underprivileged", often used by racists as a code word, although usually for "black or hispanic", except by bigots who are more-or-less unaware of hispanics. This is because these people equate poor with black/hispanic. The more general use by this type is as a code to mean "coddling the poor". The idea is that, by helping the poor, you are encouraging laziness, since, of course, poverty is always the result of laziness. Laziness leads to the dark side of the force, which leads to lawlessness, violence, and, ultimately, liberalism, which, in turn, leads to more help for the poor. To me, this is clearly the point of view of the moron writing this article. I mean, who would you expect to be involve in post-disaster violent crime? The rich criminals with any sense were among the first to evacuate. Only the poor and the terminally stupid, insane or foolish were left behind. This idiot concludes that, because of the "welfare state" the poor are mostly criminal. The obvious conclusion is, instead, that the criminals were mostly poor, not because poor people are so lawless, but because pretty much the only people left are poor, and of course some of them are criminal.
What's a real hoot is this fool's apparent belief that, if it weren't for government help, there wouldn't be this small percentage of violent criminals. Does he think that even more grinding poverty has some kind of ennobling effect on the human soul? Or does he think they would have died of starvation? 'Cause I can tell you, the decent poor would have died long before the predators.
BTW, there's nothing in the article that proves to me this fellow is racist, but, if I had to bet, I'd bet he is. Just something about the way "projects" rolls off his tongue...
Mr. K, I think you'd have helped yourself some by connecting your sarcasm to the article in the first place, instead of expecting everyone else to follow your assumptions. That may just be my own bias in favor of long-windedness talking. Still, I stand by my assessment of your post. Besides, it is a cute bunny.
P.S. Like most people who post here, I may be misguided, but I'm far from retarded. I've had many people question my good sense, and the occasional paranoid question my existence, but only the most clueless of people has ever questioned my basic intelligence.

Well, if you were responding to something that was actually in the article, that would work. However, in this case you were responding to what you thought the article really meant, instead of what the article actually said. In cases like that, you might mention, as you did in your later post, what you thought they really meant instead of merely dropping an opaque remark.

Your utter stupidity aside, what annoys me the most about that sort of article is that it's racism presented in a way that is superficially acceptable to society.
He looked that the tragedy and comforted rich white people by saying "You know, it's not our wonderful Republican president who's at fault. It's those damn black people we all hate anyway. And you don't have to worry about this happening in your town, because no black people live there, so everything will be great when a disaster strikes there."
It's classic misdirection that both blames the innocent victims (ie, the enemy) and minimizes the mistakes of the rich white people he wants you to keep voting for.
