Funny how things get abandoned after a while. It's been (what feels like) a year since I've visited this place, and it seems pretty unactive. (On a side note, did Uber ever get back up and if so can I get a link?)
But I need an opinion on something. I've got 5 schools I can solidly get in to. I've already formulated my own opinions, but I like hearing where other people think is the better place to go: University of Chicago New York University Georgetown University of Michigan University of California-Berkeley
Most likely I'd be majoring in Economics or Politics or both. Yeah, so I'd just like to hear everyone's personal biases.

Don't know what's best for either field, but Berkeley's not far from where I live. Berkeley has an excellent academic reputation in general, a good ambience, and is in the middle of a cool college town a hop, skip and a jump away from a major metropolis (San Francisco). My wife got her Masters in Library Science there. So my prejudice is "Go for Berkeley"!
I think you should check it out personally around September 17th, and hit up Pokemon Rocks on the same trip. [ 08-11-2005, 07:05 PM: Message edited by: Bugcatcher Ed ]

Its nice that your parents are letting you look all over the place for your school.
I wasn't allowed to look past a 4 hour radius.
I will starting at Penn State in a few weeks.
Those are all quality schools. Having visited none of them, I'd go with Cal-Berkeley because living on the west coast might be fun for a change.

Well, I can give you the low-down on NYU. If you're going for Economics or Politics, it would probably be a good choice. I'm an Economics major now, and our department is one of the best in the country. I could reccomend you some good professors.
However, don't look to get much guidance here. I have had 6 different advisors over 6 semesters of school, and only one of them really did anything to help me. Also, be prepared to pay a lot of money. My tuition has gone up by $1,000 every year (right now, total, for everything including tuition, we pay approximately $43,000 for a year) since I was a freshman, and I'm going into my senior year, and it doesn't look ike this trend is going to change much. So also, be prepared to feel like you're getting screwed out of a ton of money.
I've said for the past two years that I would not want my kids attending NYU, but I suppose it really depends on what you're going for. It's a good school, but you'll get financially screwed many times over if you go here. I would actually reccomend going to our business school, because you get a great education and a great job when you graduate. The average starting salary for a Stern School of Business graduate is $90,000.
Also, don't go here if you're not a tolerable person. There are a lot of weird people, and you're going to be stereotyped.
University of Chicago has a great Economics program, but it is also right-wing and follows the ideals of Friedman and Hayak, which I don't necessarily agree with completely (Milton Friedman is the head of the department there). NYU is left-wing. You may also want to keep this in mind.
If you have more questions, hit me up on AIM (pbandj831).
