This is just something that used to come up a lot when we used to argue about everything. I found it kinda interesting.
For those who don't care, here's another bunny:

That is a very interesting article.
Of course, everyone who has ever owned a dog or cat knows they have "subtle" emotions. But it is nice there is now scientific backing for the observation.

Hmm. Makes sense. I've seen a mother duck practically hyperventilate when another animal walked near its nest, so it doesn't surprise me that animals might have emotions.

I was attacked by a coot the other day and couldn't figure out what it's problem was until I heard some peeping nearby. One of the parents made a bunch of noise and ran slowly away, trying to draw me away from the nest and the other charged me pretty visciously. I thought it was funny for a while until I almost got pecked, and then I ran away. If it was a bluff, it was a damn good one.
Anyway, I think we're probably going to see more of this stuff as we figure out more about how brains work, and we can see our brains and coot brains doing exactly the same thing in a predictable manner.
Also have you heard? All bisexuals are lying.
That should get some people wound up. [ 07-08-2005, 10:20 PM: Message edited by: Mr. K ]

every bisexual (or so they say) I know (2 male and 4 females) have all turned out in straight relationships. Only one girl has any interest in any shape-way-form to the same gender.

Cesar: Only one girl has any interest in any shape-way-form to the same gender.
So...what gives them the idea that they're bi if they're not actually interested in the opposite sex? They just saying it to get a rise out of people?
The people I know who have identified themselves as bi have leaned pretty strongly one way or the other. Some were flaming homos and one chick now lives in a redneck town with a husband and numerous chilruns.
Certainly in terms of behavior, a human can do whatever they want, and can even get addicted to things that they don't actually like (like Diet Coke), but it's interesting to see what the brain is up to.
Although, if someone meets people of both sexes that they find attractive and want to bang, I'm not sure if the underlying brain functions really mean that much. I mean, a person who wants to eat a lot but chooses not to isn't secretly fat or anything.

I've encountered a number of women who claimed to be bisexual, then said they're only interested in one gender. Most seem to do this because they're unsure of themselves, sexually. They don't want to go one way or the other until they're sure of themselves.

I'm not really a fan of the study, because if they were to plop some porn in front of me, they'd say, "Yep, definitely a lesbian." But men's minds work different than women's... Still not a fan of the study because it's so one-dimensional.
I think one of the problems with bisexuality among women is cracking into the alternative lifestyle scene. It's hard enough finding partners in a het-dominated world. If I'm happy living a het lifestyle, I'm not going to go out of my way to hook up with a chick. So to most people, even to lesbians (who I'd think would understand grey areas better than straight people), I'm a straight chick. It doesn't matter who I flirt with or what kind of porn I like, I'm considered straight because I'm marrying a boy.

They wouldn't be measuring how you say you feel, they'd be measuring how your brain reacts. I suppose they might need to use different stimuli for women, but "the alternative lifestyle scene" wouldn't enter into the study results.
Maybe attractive members of each sex would tell you how great you look in that outfit or that they own a lot of property or something.

Yes, I understand how they did the study.

And I'm saying maybe there's a better study that would. There's more to sexuality than "do u like teh pr0n?" [ 07-09-2005, 08:14 PM: Message edited by: pkthunder ]

I acknowledged that in my original post, but this is science, not a quiz in Cosmo magazine.

pkthunder: Yes, I understand how they did the study.
Actually, you don't. They didn't measure brain reactions, they measured penile circumference.
I've seen similar studies for girls though. They jam a special tampon up your snatch that measures moisture and heat. It's all real scientific.
It's too bad K wasn't a participant, because he woulda broke the sensor when they showed him this, and the scientists would have to come up with a better study.

OK, here are some thoughts: The study was based on how easily aroused the men were by images of one or the other gender. The men involved may not have defined there sexual preferences that way. For example, they may assume that a heterosexual is not only attracted to the idea of sex with women, but repelled by the thought of sex with men, and vice versa for homosexuals. Then, if they didn't find the idea repellant, but kinda interesting instead, they would consider themselves bisexual. Or perhaps they did not consider gender to be their top priority in selecting a partner.
