You know that classic setting for cyber-punk, a society where the masses are fed pre-chewed illusions of how their life should be via corporate media interfused with the government to keep them in check while they burn out their bodies in a system serving only to supply the highest-ups with money?
When I caught MTV:s My Super Sweet 16 by accident, I couldn't help but thinking that we're already living in such a society.
That, and all the other crap MTV and the "entertainment" industry keeps churning out. But it was that particular show that made me think of it.
My only way out is to learn Linux before it is deemed illegal, and then live the rest of my life as an underground hacker.

Seriously though, MTV was screwed up when they stopped showing music videos. I mean, little things like Liquid Television was cool and all, but fuck the Real World.

Some loser already made a device that does nothing more than block all FOX News Transmissions from appearing on your tv because he feels they are not "real news..."
Sad thing is, he is making money off of this!
So, get one and re-wire it for MTV.

Go read some Gibson, and pay close attention to the passages containing words like "simstim" and "star" and you'll understand.

Yeah the mass media is pretty much brainwashing everyone and I can't even take consolation in knowing I'm not affected because how do I know I'm not? I mean, I'm certainly not part of the mainstream brainwashing but that doesn't mean that I haven't been influenced by some things. Do I really think Zeppelin rock or am I meant to think Zeppelin rock and so I do?

A few years ago, a friend of mine saw this interview with Jennifer Love Hewitt which was all about herself, and she said something like "I feel like all this time I've just been waiting for my life to start. And now it has!"
The implication being, of course, that all of us are useless, soulless fucks, because we don't have our own shitty television shows.
Now sometimes when we ask each other how we're doin', we'll say we're just waitin' for our lives to start.

At my campus, we have MTVu (MTV University) playing in all of the dining areas and exercise rooms at all times. Tonight, my debate team argued that MTVu should be removed from these places and replaced with just plain old cable. At this point, if any of those places are open, our school's contract with MTV says that MTVu must be playing at all times. ![[PBJ Time!]](graemlins/pbjtime.gif) We won. My faith in humanity has grown a little.
