I've been out of the videogame loop for 1,5 years now, and I've decided to get back.

Without much further ado, recommend games for the following systems, in particular, sleeper or odd/unusual games which haven't recieved a lot of attention:

GameCube
Game Boy Advance
PlayStation2

Which new releases are worth keeping an eye out for?

Right now, it seems like all the good stuff is released on Xbox... Damn Microsoft and their infinite amount of third-party-developer-assimilating money. Yeah I'm trolling, ignore it.

New releases for PS2 that look noteworthy are Star Ocean (insert subtitle here) and Devil May Cry 3. GBA future releases include earthbound, or mother 1 and 2, or whatever the hell they're bringing out. Screw gcn for now, I plan on trading it in or something.

i like Resident Evil for GCN (The Remake).

prolly my top 3 favorite games of all time, i loved it so much...i still play it and it gets better and better each time!

Resident Evil 4 should be coming out soon too, so you might wanna pick that up for the cube

Metal Gear Solid for cube wasn't a bad remake either.

EDIT: forgot Mario Kart for the cube as well.

yah cube is my only new generation system so sorry if that's all i posted.

and i don't game on the advance much.

PS2:
Disgaea (It's getting re-released, so it'll be easier to find)
La Pucelle: Tactics (Disgaea's predecessor. Best damn random name generator EVER)
Mega Man Anniversary Collection (6/22)
Growlanser Generations (7/20)
Echo Night: Beyond (7/27)
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (08/01)
Armored Core: Nexus (8/17)

GameCube:
Mega Man Anniversary Collection (6/22)
Tales of Symphonia (7/13)
Paper Mario 2 (10/11)
Baten Kaitos (11/15)

GBA:
River City Ransom EX (Holy shit, did they ramp up the power of Acro Circus! <3)
Mega Man Mania (08/31)

Mega Man Anniversary Collection has Mega Man 1-8 and two arcade games. The GC version has an inverview with the creator, while the PS2 version has a few episodes of one of the shows. (we don't know which one)
The GBA version (Mega Man Mania) has remakes of the Gameboy versions of Mega Man 1-5, which are slightly different than their NES counterparts.

Also, has Mother 1+2 actually been confirmed for a US release?

All I've seriously played for the past year+ is Dance Dance Revolution (which I'm sure you're all familiar with) and Beatmania IIDX. [two-dee-ecks] It is, without reservation, the hardest game ever created. However, since it's SO hard, the little Americans who simply can't game like the Japanese can will never see it, so getting it, getting your PS2 to play it, and then playing it is ridiculously expensive.

(The newest game, Beatmania IIDX 7th Style, costs $85 US because of its extremely limited release. Luckily, it's worth every penny. The controller itself goes for $90 US. And the replacement cover for your PS2 and the boot discs will cost $40.)

The controller is a large, user-friendly operation that dismantles easily for cleaning and is otherwise solid. The left side houses a turntable, and the right side has a bed of seven large keys, four on bottom and three on top, which you use to 'play' the song you select. During the game, small bars fall from the top of the screen, and when they overlap a red bar at the bottom, you push the key or scratch the turntable. The problem starts when masses of these bars fly down the screen at speeds they really shouldn't be flying at and you have to keep your performance bar above 80% or you lose the song (and are summarily booed by both the game and anyone else in the room with you at the time). Unlike DDR, the song's audio is affected by your actions, so if you miss keys, the song will start sounding like crap. If you press too early or too late, the song will sound off as well.

So if you can handle it (and are somewhat rich), try IIDX.

And Gitaroo Man for the PS2 is a fucking MUST-HAVE.

Also a kiss for KidVid for mentioning Mega Man.

OK, I know I'm probably not the nicest Pokemon Trainer when it comes to giving advice, and if I get flamed on this, it is probably well deserved. So here goes...

I bought Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee for the Cube way back when it was released and after toying with it for some time, I ended up trading the game in. Its a pretty bland fighting game all around and when there's four people on screen, the usual fun idea, the game is sluggish and its hard to control where and which monster to hit (as well as the camera panning out). I wasn't very impressed, needless to say.

I have only played a Gitaroo Man demo, but I instantly loved it. I do not own a PS2, nor have any overwhelming desire to, but if I did I would have to find this game.

My favorite game of all time is Rez (PlayStation 2). It'll be hard to find a copy, but goddamn if you can, its awesome.

I recently picked up F-Zero GX at my local EB for less than 20 bucks and have a lot of great things to say about it. I didn't grow up with F-Zero, I'm not cfalcon, but I picked up the 64 version and really liked it. The GC game is beautiful and the tracks have been well planned and have a lot of nice touches that just make them neat (even though you normally are traveling at superfast speeds and can't totally appreciate them all the time). Controls are tight and there's a lot of stuff for the super F-Zero fan.

Viewtiful Joe I liked.

In conclusion, buy an Xbox.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I like platformers a lot. Any good platformers to recommend? There's gotta be plenty for the GBA.

I have Jak and Daxter: The Precursor's Legacy for PS2, which is a great platformer, is the sequel any good?

I'm also looking for space shooters, be they licensed products (Star Wars comes to mind) or not.

Sci-fi games in general appeal to me, Zone of the Enders 1 & 2 were great games, though ZoE 2 was a bit too hectic for my taste. Colony Wars: Red Sun owned, but sadly, they don't make space shooters like that anymore...

I just finished Mario & Luigi (for the GBA, although fuck playing an adventure game on a tiny screen...get the Cube-translator thing)...it was OK. Not as good as Paper Mario, story-wise, and I found all the special attacks annoying, so I never used them.

But, I was still able to play just fine without them, so it certainly gets points for flexibility.

The mini-games were all OK and related directly to the plot...not like that krap in Stadium. Only a couple of them were really, really irritating, and I think you could just ignore one of them.

Overall, if you like that sort of thing, it's well-done, and you'll like the game. If you didn't like Paper Mario or Mario RPG or whatever, this isn't good enough to worth an extra look.

That's it, I'm cancelling my preorders now.

Might I suggest getting a subscription to Gamefly and using it to try out various games? $21 a month for 2 games at a time, after a few months you're eligable for the $28 3-games-at-a-time plan. They rent out Gamecube, PS2, X-Box, and GBA games.
