Sorry, but LDR rarely work. They can work, but I'd guess at least 90% fail... I'm sorry.
But if you REALLY are in love, there's hope. It depends on how much you really care about each other and if the LDR will always be LD.

Thomas, I am one of the few people being serious here. If it IS going to fail, not saying it will, but IF it will, it will NOT fail by your hand, but more than likely her hand.

Why don't you call a break for the time you are away from each other. It is the only reasonable thing to do.
I doubt Thomas know WTF he is feeling for his girl. Since it is college and he is a member of this forum I can speculate that his experience with girls are limited and that he has trouble getting girls to go out with him. If this is the case and his girlfriend is naive enough or unacceptable enough that other guys won’t approach her, then they should stay together.
Otherwise he is throwing away his college experience with girls. Thomas has to ask himself if this girl is worth risking all that.

This is an excellent question.
The numbers are against you, but it's certainly not impossible to pull off. I'd be more worried about what will happen when you become different people once as you go thru kollege.
Personally, I prefer LDRs because I don't want some bitch up in ma grill all the time and I'm all like "Yo, why ya buggin', bitch?" and she's all like "Oh, you is not talkin' to me that way!" and then I hits her over the head with a lamp because I don't take that shit from nobody and then she calls the cops and then I has to go back to jail and have another Short Distance Relationship with a big sweaty axe murderer and seriously fuck that am I right?
But, yeah, anyway, I prefer them, but that's only because I don't want babies and if I don't get a few hours to myself each day, I have to go back to prison.
Since you don't seem to be cynical and sick of humanity yet, tho, I wouldn't place much value in my advice.

I think there's a much higher success rate in LDR with people that are older than college age. Either they care more or have more money for travel or their mind isn't on school or something. But college should be a fun time without the stress of a long-distance relationship. Not one person I knew in college that had one ever had it work out.

The first girlfriend I ever had was a long distance relationship. I was living at home going to school and she was away at college in central Illinois. We talked on the phone ever other day for like an hour and e-mailed each other everyday. She would come home about once a month and we would get to see each other then, and when she had her winter break we spent a lot of time together then and she definitely gave me a lot of my firsts then ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)
I'd say it worked out for me quite well personally. She was a senior though and she dumped me like 2 months before she would be home permanently though

First of all, what people in this thread are referring to as the "college experience" is overrated.
Secondly, I have been in a couple pretty serious relationships before, and I say as long as you two really love each other, definitely go for it. Things will always work out the way they were supposed to.

When I was talking about how college should be a fun time I wasn't talking about whatever you are imagining and calling the "college experience." I was just saying that LDRs can be hard work and you really don't need more stress in your life during college. My argument has nothing to do with dating other people or cheating or sleeping with every girl you can get your hands on or anything like that. Just the "Relationships are work" argument and some take more than others.
And dude, if you already had your mind made up why the fuck did you ask?

Long distance relationships generally fail miserably, and it has been my policy to avoid them. My high school sweetheart and I decided to end things when she decided to go to college in Chicago and I stayed here in Northern California. Now, she's a corporate lawyer and pulling down $400,000 a year.... In hindsight, would it have been nice to stay with her? Maybe. But, she was gone for the better part of seven years, and I don't think either of us could have handled a LDR of that length. My advice: go away to college and enjoy yourself. You can always have "just friends" sex with the old g/f when you come home on break!
