I'm curious to see what everyone is listening to these days.

I personally love any style of music except for nearly all country and most of that MTV played junk. I liked Maroon 5 before MTV started playing their stuff, so thats an example I guess.

At any rate, my favorite bands are Radiohead and The Flaming Lips.

The most recent CDs I purchased (lol what) were Rooney and The Polyphonic Spree. Both were cheap, and I like both very much. I love the Polyphonic Spree. If you don't know who they are, its a band of around 30 people, with trumpets, flutes, french horns, guitars, bass, drums, a vocal section, and much more. Its crazy. Their one song is in the VW commercial. You can hear it on their website. I love crazy shit like that, though.

I've also been listening to a lot of ska recently since my friends and I are starting up a band. I play trumpet, we also have the standard guitarists, drums, bass, trombone and a sax. Figured ska is probably a good way to get some ideas... but we're not going to play just that style. Its just stupid to limit yourself to a genre. We hope to really just play whatever we come up with. My favorite ska band is Reel Big Fish.

For some reason I've been listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin lately too.

Favorite songs of the moment: Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song and Death Cab For Cutie's Title And Registration.

Sweet.

The last CD I bought was Kanye West - The College Dropout.

It was a great purchase which is good because so many CDs I have bought within the last few years have been such disappointments.

My current WinAmp playlist.

That's over 5 gigs of music, as compared to my playlist about a year ago:

I heard this was very excellent. I dabble into hip hop a little bit, I'm not a huge fan or anything, but I definitely like some of the really good stuff. I'll have to check it out.

I've been really into Beck lately, and so far my favorite album of his is Midnite Vultures. I also have Mellow Gold and Odelay. Other than that I really haven't discovered anyone new that I like, I've just been rediscovering some music I've had for a while, like Maceo Parker and Herbie Hancock during his Headhunters/Thrust/Man-Child years. Also right now I have a ton of music on my hard drive that needs to be consolidated and put in my collection.

My current playlist.

7.91 gigs of music; I'm currently ripping another seven CDs.

I listen to a lot of Dream Theater, and basically whatever comes up randomized in my playlist.

EDIT: For the record the last two CDs I bought were Cake's Comfort Eagle and Ben Folds Five's Whatever and Ever Amen.

I appreciate just about any form of music that's done well, though I'm more partial to metal, personally. I also like what little Kraftwerk and Das Ich I've heard so far (Kraftwerk invented electronic music, and Das Ich is industrial).

Burzum, 1349, Mayhem, Graveland, Judas Iscariot, Summoning, to name some of the more popular bands.

What? So you simply stopped liking them because they got popular? I suppose I could see getting tired of hearing something too much (though for this to happen you would have to be watching mtv on a regular basis), but to simply not like something because it's on a channel is retarded, even dumber than only liking things that're on that channel.

Anyway, here's a somewhat updated winamp playlist for those of you with a lot of free time to wade through, somewhere beyond 20gigs at last count. I've been listening to a lot of the Eagles, Elliot Smith, and the Postal Service lately... and getting Liz Phair's new poppy album inspired me to pull out Exile In Guyville for a few spins.

I don't think I've gone and downloaded any new music for many months. Not because of any RIAA bullshit or anything like that, but because there's nothing I want. I would kind of want a song before I would go get it, and it's not like I listen to anything outside of the 25 hours of music I have for background purposes anyway.

As for what I do listen to, I have a bunch of stuff. Stuff that goes all the way from BoA... to Changin' My Life... to The Pillows... to Sonata Arctica... even to stuff from Grease. I have a good amount of songs from Riverdance. Even a bit of Opeth. I just like songs that have interesting music in them... I don't usually listen for the words.

EDIT: Winamp made a list if you're interested in what's there.

LOL, yeah, I get that quite a bit dweedle, especially from my roomate. Not sure what exactly fuels my musical tastes, I like a pretty good bit of everything for one reason or another. I enjoy singing along to crappy pop songs, bobbin my head to awful rap music, and banging my head to some mostly noise rock... and then I also like most of the more quality representations of those same genres. Meh, I like what I like. As for the Duff, I borrowed and ripped the cd from a girl on the floor above me.. that 'so yesterday' song was stuck in my head from the radio.

lol fair enough

if i have time tomorrow I'll type out all my music, i don't have a winamp playlist so i guess i have to type it out manually

i've prolly got close to 20 gigs (about 4000-5000 songs) so i may just type out the albums because i don't really download anything i just have albums (although i do download albums on occassion)

Rhapsody.

You dopeheads should buy every Rhapsody album available.

Same thing with After Forever, Guns 'N Roses (uh-huh), Sonata Arctica, Iron Maiden and a dozen other bands.

The latest Dimmu album finally convinced me to listen black metal.

And Aina's "Days of Rising Doom; the Metal Opera" is one of the finest pieces of work. EVAR.

Dimmu only released two black metal albums, For All Tid and Stormblast. Every album since then has basically been pop with some heavy metal-ish riffs... Cradle of Filth fare.

If you want to get into black metal, download Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, Summoning - Stronghold, Summoning - Dol Guldur, and Dark Throne - Transylvanian Hunger. You're more likely to like the Summoning albums - the others take some time to get used to, but if you "get it", they're well worth it.

Eh? WTF? I never said I didn't like Maroon 5. I love their stuff. I guess I may have given that impression, but no, thats not true. I still like them and all.

I agree with you. But they are overplayed on the radio and such, which is why I don't listen to it.

Yeah, I read 'em too, a lot of times I see something in there that's been rec'd to me before and it reminds me to give it a listen. I'll also note that the stupid list on my site gets a decent number of hits every week, so there's obviously a lot of other people with nothing better to do.

And sorry Jman, missunderstood what you were using them as an example of.

Nope, most of them link to it directly from the music section of my page (where it is clearly labeled as the insanely long pile of poo it is). There were also at least 15 unique hits directly from this page yesterday... perhaps this is one of those rare instances where not everyone's opinions line up directly with yours? I know that's hard to fathom, but c'mon, it's gotta happen every once in a blue moon, eh?

Oh, and I like the Darkness. Oh, and I don't like Rhapsody, boring fantasy-metal isn't my thing.. unless maybe Therion counts, they're pretty good.

@Mentar: Sure, Dimmu has become more mainstream, but they're no Cradle. You see, Cradle sucks ass. And Dimmu doesn't. And "For the world to dictate our death" sounds pretty 'black' to me (no i wusnt talkin about hiphop).

Is Marduk black metal, btw?

Is Marduk black metal, btw?

I wouldn't know about Marduk. And DB's last few releases have sounded like a darker, less gay version of CoF, to me. Except no Dani. DB's basic problem is that when they play something that actually is black metal, it only uses the aesthetic elements of the genre - it's written with none of the ideology or worldview in mind. It's kinda like "Christian" black metal.

However, in the end it really doesn't matter whether DB is like Cradle of Filth, or even whether they're black metal or not. What matters is how the terrorists perceive it. Which of these two scenarios do you think is more likely?

You dopeheads should buy every Rhapsody album available.

Same thing with After Forever, Guns 'N Roses (uh-huh), Sonata Arctica, Iron Maiden and a dozen other bands.

The latest Dimmu album finally convinced me to listen black metal.

And Aina's "Days of Rising Doom; the Metal Opera" is one of the finest pieces of work. EVAR.

[BUMP]

*has two albums from Rhapsody and the rest on the computer*

Also, I like Nightwish, Tristania, Dimmu Borgir, Kamelot and Lacuna Coil. ^^"
