I generally do my thinking for myself, thanks.
Edit: Granted, reviews in particular are meant to provide opinions where you lack information, not to think for you. But I find the general consensus to usually be more valuable than some individual critic's whim, hence my preference for metacritic sites. [ 01-10-2004, 01:46 AM: Message edited by: Rolken ]

So you respect no one's opinion other than your own? Meaning when scroll through the posts made at Azure you only read them for the sake of writing a good argument against them, unless they post in agreement with you. Right? [ 01-10-2004, 01:54 AM: Message edited by: ceoalex316 ]

I consider whether they seem logical, and if I decide they don't I generally write a scathing reply unless I'm feeling lazy or somebody else already did the job. So, yeah, sure. At least when the topic is about something universal and thought-provoking.
Note that that's essentially what I did in this topic. [ 01-10-2004, 02:04 AM: Message edited by: Rolken ]

Politics - my dad, he's an elected official and knows his shit
Sociology - iono
Movies - my three suitemates who are film majors and my good friend from home who is a film major at Temple, they usually have the same taste as I do
TV - all I watch is ESPN and Family Guy and Seinfeld and Conan and Letterman
Video Games - I figured out what I like by now, I can usually tell without someone else's opinion if I'll like it or not, but one of my roommates usually knows what's up in the video games department, so if I ever have any questions I ask him
Alcohol - who the fuck cares, whatever's there
- - - - - the only way to get pass this will be to commit suicune

Politics - Bush, Michael Savage,(both more like respect than trust, although I process and make conclusions on what they say more than other people) and yahoo.com
Movies - My own surmise of them. Can't stand critics.
Video Games - Penny Arcade people and anyone who I can consider smart.
I don't bother with the other three categories. [ 01-10-2004, 05:12 AM: Message edited by: Charmeleon42 ]

The only opinnion I trust right now is for video games and what Electronic Gaming Monthly thinks of it. But it depends on the reviewer, some of the new reviewers I haven't decided if I trust them or not.
I would trust Shoe with my life, though.

Right, but keep in mind, you can hear me say "people should be free" and you think "He must be talking about enslaving blacks", so maybe your views are a little bit arbitrary on this count.

I'm not electing him or anything. I just trust and respect his opinions because I know that he
a) does his research and gets informed, and b) does not let his emotion get in the way of his opinions.
I don't always agree with him, and not everything he says is absolutely correct, but he doesn't form opinions based on anger and rage, and he doesn't take some oddball stance on an issue and then not support it with a little information-gathering and stuff.
EDIT: I would probably respect your opinions, too, K, but we don't really get into those discussions. [ 01-11-2004, 03:54 PM: Message edited by: pkthunder ]

Right, note that I'm *aware* that the moon thing is a bad idea, but I still like it, because it is a moon thing. So while my personal opinion is not based on logic, I still have the logic- I don't make up a bunch of justifications there, and then try to talk people into it.
I don't recall where all the MOOOOOON stuff comes from- it may have been something else besides SNL, but I distinctly recall the howl.
What I'm saying is...maybe someone who only recently figured out that a capitalist society does not always look out for the best interests of the citizenry isn't the best person to put your trust in...

Well, that's reasonable. Kinda like how I read most of Ebert's reviews, but I know there's stuff he likes that I don't (and vice versa) and I can pretty much figure out if I'm gonna like a movie based on his review.

This would be from the telephone conversation we had a few months ago, where you said something like "I've been thinking and perhaps a capitalist society does not always look out for the best interests of the citizenry" and then waited for me to be impressed by your amazing discovery.

Yea, that's the chain where you argue that it would be good if our soldiers die in Iraq. Clearly, I'm only opposing that because of my heated, irrational mind.
