I've just been suspended from school. I doubt any of you will notice my lack of posting, or my lack of even being on IM, since I don't talk often, but if anyone is wondering, that's where I've gone for now.

As for the rest of the story...
Yeah, the file was never on my hard drive. I had originally been accidentally given the rights to access everything on the entire school network, a priviledge that at the time, was reserved to the network administrator and the Dean of discipline, as well as one other student who had been helping maintain the network over the summer.
So, naturally, I played around, and realized that I had access to *everyone's* network drives. Including the teachers'. First, I did the obvious, and checked my own teachers' folders, only to find that they weren't as dumb as I assumed and didn't keep any of their tests on their network drives, save one. The only problem was that this teacher was my Journalism teacher, and the only tests he kept were old ones for his English class, which he bumped me down and out of last year. (Only now do I actually thank him for bumping me down, or I'd be in a *lot* more trouble.)
Unfortunately, after looking at them, I realize that all of these tests were at least two to three years old.
Jump foward about a month or two. Mostly the only thing I've used my "ability" for is to transfer programs between students drives when they asked me to, or to give out certain programs to others who asked. There weren't many that knew that I had this ability, and if I had been smart enough and kept it at that number, then none of this problem would have happened. However, I was heling build the robot after school, and a few of the team members were bitching about their next test that was coming up. It got tiring after a little bit, so I casually asked them if they'd shut the fook up if I "helped them out" a small bit. So I go to the nearest computer, log in, and checked his drive (this was the english teacher, and these were classmates that I'd had last year, as well) for the test. I later found out that he only makes his tests about 30 minutes before class. So I said "Oh well..." and they continued bitching. If only I'd kept my fooking mouth shut...
So about a week later, one of them casually showed up and asked about one of the test files she'd seen when browsing his drive. Apparently they were reading the book, and she asked if that was the test file for it. I told her that no, it was not, because it was about three years old. So she asks if she can have a printout of it anyways, just to "study from". I thought she was a fairly smart person and thus would keep it to herself, so I did. I also told her that I'd seen the english teacher type his password in, so if she'd leave me alone and not get caught, then I'd just give her that.
This was about two or three months ago.
Two weeks ago, right after christmas break started, I was told through instant messenger that Miss Weigand, aka the Class Bitch, had somehow ratted me out, and gotten three other girls called into the office for usage of the password. I was called in the day after break ended, and was informed that they knew I had the password, and they wanted to know how I'd gotten it. I told them that the teacher was a slow typer, and that I watched him type it in. Plus, it was just his birthdate, anyways. The next day, I was called in and my parents called and told that I had gotten the password and given it to these girls, but that nothing had been altered or taken. The next day after that, I went in to talk to the dean, because my mom misheard and thought that he said that I'd changed some grades, which would be impossible. However, when talking to him, I found out that the english teacher claimed that over the break, he saw this test file in my network drive. I checked, and it was not there, nor could it be found as having been deleted since anytime in November, which means that it was never in there. However, on the computer in that room that I always use ('tis a satellite classroom, and not many people go there, ever) I never log off. Nor does the teacher. They then came back on friday, and told me that they had proof that the file was strwen across the network in various members of his class's network drives, and that they all had my name attached to them. Basically, they said "either you admit to this because we have all the proof that points to you, or you're gonna be expelled." As it turns out, they still suspended me for five days, won't let me near a computer at school (that'll probably last a week, maybe two at most) and the possibility of expulsion is still available, just not likely.
At home, my mother has no clue what anything I say means, so she listened to the Dean of Discipline's dumbed down version, which was basically "He stole a test and distributed it". My dad listened to my story and mostly seems dissappointed that I "lied" to everybody (there's not a chance in hell that they'd believe anything I say, because I lie to them so much anyways) and am such a dishonest person. My punishment from them ended up being that I have to clean the basement while I'm suspended (heh, I got suspended and the last day is right before a 5 day weekend... 11 day weekend for me now, and the only classes that I missed were two days of exam reviews and the exams, which I only have three of and will be able to make up fairly easily) I'm grounded for 2 weeks (thank god I have work as an excuse) and I've lost my computer for a month or so (but there's still another in the house, and I got my hard drive out of my own computer before it got hauled out).
Right now my only worries are that this little incident will cost me scholarships to college (my ACT scores guarantee I'll get accepted anywhere I apply to... 33 - 99th percentile ) and that I may get kicked out of Journalism, which is the class with the english teacher that I have. Luckily, I'm the only one in that class that is proficient with a computer (Heh... I got recruited by the teacher, ironically enough...) and I'm fairly decent with Adobe InDesign, which is what we use for layout for both the Yearbook and the school newspaper which are what the Journalism class covers. My guess is that they'll install a keystroke logger on all the computers down there and moniter my activity, but still allow me to be in the class and use the computers in it. Basically the only thing that I've lost from it is that I won't be able to come down during 6th bell study hall like I used to, since he's not down there then.

Ultimately, this is your fault for trusting a high school girl with a secret.
If it was a smart one *and* a friend you'd have a shot at being ok here, but since she wasn't either, you get fucked.
I'll bet she's cute though, or you wouldn't have suspended your good judgement.

Funnily enough, something similar happened to me.
It was the last week of the last year of school, and when we filed into class one day we noticed that the other class' chem teacher had left a computer logged in, with the prac test for later that week open and onscreen.
A bunch of guys immediately hopped on and verified that, and guards we posted at each doorway. They asked for a floppy, so I handed them one (geek == me), they saved the file, shut down the computer, and gave me the disk.
The next day, I print out bring in the test, cleverly disguised as "Practise chem prac exam - typical questions". Unfortunately, two guys rat out the class and I and the principle computer operator take the fall. The funny thing was how paranoid they seemed to be about the whole thing. "Did you access any other files in Mr X's home directory?" No. "How can we know that you didn't?" Ask Mr Y to check the logs. "Why is the timestamp on the printout for this morning?" My computer clock is probably off by 12 hours. "What's this 'Monolith'?" Uhh... my computer's name.
We ended up getting away with a Saturday detention (medium-harsh, they admitted that it should bhave been a suspension) and were even allowed to sit a new prac exam.

Yes.
Also I was more tired of hearing the girl whine. But the girl who ratted me out wasn't someone I'd ever trust. She just somehow "found out". I trusted fairly smart people with it, and had them generally involved enough not to go ratting anyone out, or else I'd have their necks. going down with me.
As for being cute, they're alright, but since I still have and had Miko at the time, I wasn't actually thinking like that, it was more of "geez, quit complaining about the test."

Cheating is wrong, but if you ever want to do it successfully and NOT get caught is to do the following.
*Do it all on your own so no one else can rat you out.
But if you do need others, such as guards to make sure nobody is coming, make everything 100% unlinkable back to you. Even if they DO rat you out, make it where they can't PROVE you did it. Your word against there's and just lie...

The funny thing was that the people grilling me told me who the rat was.
Considering how many people were on my side, I could have gotten him beaten to within an inch of his life... but it was only a Saturday D, and I was the one stupid enough to hand out the disc.

here's the direct text of the guy on my forum detailing about how to get admin access:
go in the C drive (if u do not have access to it then go in another drive and right click and click new then click shortcut, then type "C:\" then click ok, then click ok again, now go to the "windows" folder and open a file called "poledit" (or maybe its poleditor i forget) then go file, new, and 2 blue things will be there called like default computer and default user (or somthin like that) go in each one one after the other and UNCHECK all the options in the subfolders when ur done making ur policy click save an save it as "ratings.pol" under either D drive or ur personal drive (i forget which one wont let u) then exit the policy editor and u should still have that "my computer" window open (windows explorer) go in the "system" folder thats in the "windows" folder, then open a new windows explorer or my computer or w/e and go to where u saved ur ratings.pol file. now right click down and hold and drag the file to the "system" folder and make sure the option u select is "move" so it replaces the normal ratings.pol, when the window pops up that says "would u like to replace this with this?"
click "yes" now restart your computer and have some fun with ur new found priveledges

When our Chem teacher had a baby last year, we got this exceedingly senile old guy called Dr. Flicker. His ass would hang out of his pants, it took him 10 minutes to open a door, and he once stated his need to go take a piss before walking into a closet.
Anyways, All the tests for the rest of the year were kept in this manilla folder that said PRIVATE in big read letters on it.
That was just a little to inviting to me and a couple friends and we ended up jacking most of the years exams. Then we'd do em before hand and just memorize the answers.
Then some dumbass decided to just write it on a card. The card escaped the attention of old Dr. Flicker, but not of the class bitch who proceded to rat on him, and by association me
My fault for getting 100% instead of like 94 or something.
Now heres the funny part, after the principal did some asking around and stuff, it turns out that like 70% of all the students in that class, all periods, were cheating their asses off. So the sub got canned and our principal taught the class the rest of the year.
I'm still pretty shocked nothing happened to me, but at least now im more inclined to cheat.
