Is it illegal in the states to alter the colour or your money by means of a dye or (for coins) a sharpie?

Paper money, yes, it's probably illegal. No one will care, of course, unless you do it en-masse.

Coins? I bet that's legal, because you aren't really "destroying" the coin- a good bath in *something* will fix it.

But really, who knows?
