Because they can't masturbate. Thusly, their sex drive builds, and their abilities become more striking.
In other words, they're desparate.

AnnieKat MIGHT become Mormon at the rate the Episcopalian Convention is fucking things up!
Which reminds me, cfalcon. Would the rate that Episcopalians are screwing up our own Church be exponential, or not?

AnnieKat MIGHT become Mormon
Heh.
Would the rate that Episcopalians are screwing up our own Church be exponential, or not?
I'd just call it "fast". It sorta ticked me off that after the arch-conservatives lost their anti-gay agenda, they marched right over to the Lutheran church and prayed.
What did they pray for, exactly? Like, I've prayed for selfish things, but I've never prayed for people to be less tolerant or anything.
Don't really get that.
Anyway, kind of a low point for your religion when you're the fall back position, I guess.
They are told it is their purpose in life to make little mormons,
That, and they have a belief in an eternal family- so that means that all the loss they suffer as a family will eventually be undone (I think).
Ok, I actually *have* noticed that Mormon girls seem hotter than average. The actual reason for this, I think, is because Mormons have, for a few generations, bred with other Mormons at a high (though not exclusive) rate- and they have a pretty different setup when it comes to meeting people and such, so attractiveness is "rewarded" (genetically speaking) at a faster rate than the rest of everybody.
But then, I could just be talking out my ass about the whole thing. I haven't like, done a study or anything.
But I should have made a choice in the poll "VIRGINS R HOT".

*moans* It's gonna split again, Malcolm's gonna have a FIT, and the guy doesn't have a good heart... if he dies due to all this, I'm gonna go murder me some stupid Episcopalians, convert to Zoroastrianism, and disappear, never to be heard from again!

It's always a low point when a denomination splits. Really, it always sucks.

Let's bet dollars that this gets quoted at some point.
convert to Zoroastrianism
I heard that they don't accept converts.
Silly proto-Christians!

Totally- but what I had said was directed at Lutheranism (I'm a Lutheran)- because I didn't like the sound of "well, if we can't be assholes here in Episcopalian land, we can always run over and join the Lutherans- no *chance* of them not being assholes any time soon!"
I dunno, they might split. On the one hand, you'll have the people who to accept everyone, regardless of what the Bible says, and on the other hand, you'll have the peope who want to tow the line on that one poorly phrased line in the middle of a bunch of Old Testament commands that people now violate on a regular basis- but somehow, the couple lines mentioned there are given much greater weight, as evidenced by the fact that God doesn't really bring the issue up again.
I'm with the former group, of course, but my denomination seems to be booting people for being gay still. I guess that'll take an extra 15 years to go on through.
How long before the Catholics allow gay priests?
hahahahahahahahahaha
Ok, enough of that.
I would be prepared to throw her an exception

You're a Lutheran? I'm sorry.
No, seriously, there's always going to be assholes in the Episcopalian church, it's supposed to be one of the last great homes of religious conservativism. At the same time, though, the younger generation tends to be radically liberal to make up for their forefathers, which ends in situations like this. There's quite the uproar right now, because the churches in Texas (especially the Diocese of Dallas) absolutely refuse to listen to what the General Convention has decided... if you're interested personally, cfalcon, I'll send you the letter our diocese sent out, it's almost funny if you're not one of us. *winces*

I don't think the issue is so much the acceptance, it's that all of this got voted in VERY quickly- the blessing of gay unions at the same time we voted in a gay Bishop? The church has been known to split before over less, and there's rumors that Texas is going to secede with anyone that agrees and form yet another "Episcopal" church. There's a whole bunch of sects already... 3 major ones and a whole bunch of minor ones, plus the Anglicans (we're technically Anglican but everyone ignores that so we still have actual Anglican churches that are under the control of England... it's a mess).
I'm with the former group, of course, but my denomination seems to be booting people for being gay still. I guess that'll take an extra 15 years to go on through.
Probably.

I find it amusing that 150 years ago the Mormon Church was criticized as too liberal for things like women's suffrage, allying with Indians instead of killing them, and abolitionism. Now the descendents of those critics are criticizing us for the opposite reasons - we're too conservative and intolerant - while the Church policy hasn't really changed (the two exceptions being the cessation of plural marriage for obvious reasons and granting of priesthood to blacks). Come on, guys. Make up your minds.
But seriously - if the policy of a Church is seen as being inspired by God, how can it really change? I doubt <God> ever looked back and thought, "man, what a racist chauvinist pig I was - I better change how my church operates." And if your religious leaders aren't inspired by God, why do they matter anyway?
In fact, that kind of reform would be most consistent with Mormon theology, since we hold that God was once mortal and imperfect, so maybe he made some mistakes in the past. But I don't see where an unchanging and eternally perfect God would change his mind on such a basic thing as morality. I mean, it wasn't Zeus who was flinging around the lightning in the Old Testament.
But hey, if anyone has a better interpretation, I'd love to hear it. I have no illusions about my objectivity on the matter. [ 08-10-2003, 05:02 PM: Message edited by: cfalcon ]

Neither do we.
Anyway, what's driving me crazy is that what was basically an internal matter (and there're plenty of fights already) has turned into a sensational news-media scandalfest.
I don't give a flying fuck what the civil definition of marriage is, for all I care they can allow you to marry your horse. That doesn't change the fact that I don't think that the Church should marry gay couples.
I have a headache. ![[Mad]](mad.gif)

The media are designed to tell us what juicy things are going on behind closed doors. We want to know, therefore we do.
One of Google's top news stories on the matter strikes close to home.
I also don't get the Lutheran thing. If you're a conservative Episcopalian, you go to a Lutheran church because (a) you think it's right - in which case why are you Episcopalian? - or (b) you still think you're right but you're protesting, in which case if I were God I'd be pretty pissed at a bunch of old geezers who'd run off to somebody else's church to throw a tantrum. Unless Protestants hold that contradictory viewpoints are equally correct.

*winces* Rolks, Episcopalian theology is VERY different from yours (as we've obviously found out, ne?), and going to a Lutheran church to pray wasn't shocking to the Episcopalians for the church being Lutheran. As a matter of fact, it wouldn't have raised eyebrows if the issue hadn't been so... um... hotly debated.
As for Mormon girls to Episcopalian fags, it drifted that way because Mormon girls are not on my mind and Episcopalian fags are. If you want, I suppose I could go have some salacious fantasies about Lizzy, but I'd rather not, I'm too busy worrying.
