This is actually an interesting article and all, but I read it until I got to the "exponentially more" line.

Do these people know what an exponent is?

I know I am a nerd for this: I was reading an entry in the wikipedia about autosafety, and something scaled with some quantity to the fourth power. It said that something gets exponetially worse, and I changed it to polynomically.

But why can't they just say something like "the Republicans get orders of magnitudes more money than the Democrats"?

(which, by the way, is usually from a broader base: the Dems tend to be funded more by a few ultra-rich than the Republicans)

Yeah, that would mean Democratic candidates would only raise around $14,000, with the smallest (functional whole) exponent.

In high school science I was taught that "linear growth" meant a line going up and "exponential growth" meant a line going up really fast.

I explained what they really meant, and the teacher gave me a blank look and reiterated that linear is slow, exponential is fast.

Hooray for American education.
