Hi I searched through the archives and I didn't see a your all time favorite video games thread! [Embarrassed] Here are my top 10 with an explanation

1) Starsiege:Tribes - I played this game for a little over 4 years, the most amazing multi-player game I've ever had the chance to play

2) Sonic the Hedgehog series - I played all the games as a child, except for that Sega SAurn.

3) Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction - Amazing game, totally engulfed me for at least 9 months(this game was my life). Awaiting 1.10 patch!

4) All the Doom games and it's countless WADs. First ever computer game I played, still love it!

5) Zelda:Ocarina of Time - I loved this game! Not much else to say other than it was really easy which kinda sucks! I even learned to play the ocarina songs on the piano and flute! (no im not gay)

6) Resident Evil series - Since Resident Evil: Directors cut came out I'd go to my friends and we'd play together. I don't have a gamecube therefore I won't be playing these any more [Frown]

7) Super Mario 64 - Still remember when my brother called me when I was at my friends to inform me he got all 120 stars! XD

8 )Pokemon - Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal/Snap/Stadium1and2 - I got all those and pokemon was great! And what makes it better was the Pokemon mIRC thing I used to play (former ladderbot top 10) [Big Grin]

9) Warcraft - I played warcraft 2 and that was amazing, Warcraft 3 is even better! I'm actually ranked for the first time, and I'm not even an AT whore like a certain someone else here -_-;

10) I guess I'll add Bond:007 for N64. Ahh those were the days [Frown]

Honorable mentions: Counter-Strike, MLB ft. Ken Griffey Jr., Gran Turismos, WWF Raw for n64, GTA

Share your favorites, and possibly explain why!

Street Fighter: Most of them besides the crossover joints with the effortless 40+ combos.
Super Mario World: I'm fucking raw on that game. I can juggle turtleshells, and have other useless skills. Also, 96* in under 3 hours.
Pokemon: the portable cartridges. Just broke 300 hours in Ruby.
Dead or Alive: the one for Xbox. I don't know if it's a sequel or not.
Mario 64
MarioKart
Capcom crossover fighters incl. Marvel Super Heroes
More to be edited in.

1. Mario Kart: Damn what a great series. Started when I got an issue of NP about a decade ago with a preview of this in it... I quickly had my mom call toys R us and check when they were getting it. The 64 version is probably the game I've played the most of all time, and still gets solid action in multiplayer mode. The NGC version might be enough to warrant a system purchase, we'll see...

2. Civilization: Picked up the original in elementary school out of a 'scholastic reader' thingy the school gave out to make money. Played it incessantly, the strategy guide was probably the first book over 100 pages I ever read all the way through. II was possibly the greatest game ever made, and III failed to disappoint as well.

3. Grand Theft Auto: Yeah, the first computer gaming mag I ever got came with a free cd containing the demo for this game. Turns out the mag was a couple months old and the game was out already, so I bought it the next day. Never really got into 2, but both 3 and Vice have been played fairly religiously on my tv.

4. Mario Tennis: Well, if it weren't for #1 up there I'd say this is the best multiplayer game ever. Damn it's fun, despite being really simple and tennis.

5. Pokemon: Yeah, this IS a pokemon forum.

6. 1080: Not sure why, but the trick system in this game really grabbed me, even more than hawk's does. I remember laughing hysterically everytime NP ran high scores for this in the arena section, since they were usually around 1/3 to half of what I routinely managed.

7. Goldeneye: Any explanation needed? I'm not a huge fps fan, but there's no denying the multiplayer fun to be had here.

8. Wave Race: Loved this game, and the sequal's the only NGC game I've spent more than 15 minutes playing.

9. Gran Turismo: I love cars, and this is the only place I get to jack up the best of 'em. I wasn't all that good at it, but sitting behind the wheel of a 'vette and listening to the engine roar was all it took.

10. Super Mario World: Yeah, I have a hard time putting single time through games on a list like this, since racing and other games get so much more play time, but this was a classic. The first game I ever owned (well, along with street fighter 2), it's definitely a classic. 64 also ranks right there with it, wish GC had something comparable...

The first four were intended to be a top 4 kinda thing. The others were a list of other games I also enjoy very much. They have no colons after them, which, as you know, is the international sign for games that are thoroughly enjoyed but are not in the top 4 of people who do not aspire to be idiots. Pay attention next time.

I smell a lack of EarthBound in here.

1. EarthBound - Pure ownage, packed into a rather large plastic case.
2. Smash Bros. series - Nuff said.
3. Pokemon - all games. Even Snap, which I beat in a couple hours.
4. Super Mario RPG - Greatest Mario game evar.
5. Sonic series - except for the ghey 3D shiz.
6. Super Ghouls and Ghosts - because I'm the only person I know who can actually beat it. Well, that was the one time. And I didn't go back through the mansion, that's enough to drive a man utterly and completely insane.
7. Yoshi's Safari - Not that big. Only on my list for "underground" value w00t.
8. Duck Hunt - Shooting stuff is fun. Especially stuff that doesn't bleed all over you.
9. Mario World - Isn't that the original? I liked its blocky graphics and oddly-shaped people.
10. Donkey Kong/Jumpman - I like jumping over barrels. I like swinging around an invincible hammer. I like whacking my monkey.

Please note that these are in no order whatsoever, I was thinking of good games and these are in the order they came to mind.

1)Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (gba)-I choose this as my favorite game of all time, as well as my favorite Castlevania because of its style and presentation. COTM combines eclectic music with the exploration style of Super Metroid. The game should be praised for its difficulty, its one of the hardest CVs, and its dark setting which in my opinion is not found even in Symphony of the Night. This game also packs the best final Dracula battle of all of the CV games, along with very good character and boss designs.
2)Contra (nes)-I have played this game three times through in one sitting. The shooting is so addictive and fun, and the music really isn't bad either.
3)Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (snes)-I think I've literally beat this game over 10 times. This game requires no explanation to most so I wont ramble.
4)Eternal Darkness (GCN)-No title, lives up to the story in this game, well except possibly the title below. I loved everything in this game, except for the retarded enemies, which were ok for awhile, but the onslaughts (see Karims chapter) got on my nerves. The time element has never been so effectively used in my opinion. The only game that comes close in its use of time travel to me is Chrono Trigger. You must give this game a chance.
5)Metal Gear Solid (psx)-Sorry, I really like Konami. The awesome story and realistic gameplay helped me choose this one for #5. Boss battles are also pretty good.
6)Final Fantasy 8 (psx)-I know there are a lot of haters. I really enjoy the battle system as well as the sort of futuristic setting. My favorite FF girl is here too.
7)Paper Mario (N64)-When Nintendo decides to do an real RPG, you know it will be one of the greatest. This holds true for PM. I love the badge system as well as the fresh take on the Bowser kidnaps Peach story with multiple POVs.
8)Super Castlevania 4 (snes)-Out of all six linear Castlevanias, 4 is my favorite (havent played the good Dracula X). There are so many good stages, and for a snes launch title, this CV takes complete advantage of the hardware using MODE 7 effects in some of the stages. The game is really fun.
9)Virtua Fighter 4 (ps2)-Until Soul Caliber 2 arrives, this will be my all time favorite fighter. The move sets are awesome, and I just really like playing this game.
10)Metroid Prime (GCN)-This title for me defines what a fantasy FPS should be. The music, bosses, and overall atmosphere is great.

My Top 10 (and the best so far):

10. Castlevania COTM (GBA). I find AoS a bit more difficult, but CotM was way cooler. Damn that battle Arena.
9. F Zero GX. (NGC) Played it, loved it, praised it. This game will probably get a higher ranking in the future.
8. Super Mario Sunshine. Flame away, but I loved the game. I had more fun collecting the 120 shines, than collecting the 120 stars.
7. Contra (NES). Hell yeah. Addicitve as hell, this seems the most difficult game around in the beginning, until you keep playing it, and the difficulty crumbles in your hands.
6. Duke Nukem 3D / Half-Life (PC) 2 totally different shooters, but I just can’t decide which one I prefer. They both rock. “Your face, your ass…. What’s the difference?”
5. Megaman 2. (NES) Best Megaman yet. OK, 4 comes in close too, but I played this game so many fucking times…
4. TimeSplitters 2 (NGC). Fuck Goldeneye, Halo or whatever, this is the coolest console shooter around. Plus, I love games that reward my effort with extra characters, levels, cheats, etc. etc.
3. Pokemon Silver.(GBC) Best PKMN around. (together with Gold). I’m still the undefeated champion (flame away, guys!), and it had the best quest evar. Seperated the men from the boys.
2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES/GBA) My favourite Zelda. OoT and WW come close, but being a duracell bunny in the DarkWorld just takes the cake.
1. SSBM. Go ahead. Call me a fanboy, n00b, kid… whatever. This game is delicious. Plus, I love games that reward my effort with extra characters, levels, cheats, etc. etc. Did I already mention that?

Don’t froget I made this list in 3 minutes. If I’d think harder and longer, it’d probably look a bit different. I mean, c’mon, where the hell did I leave Super Metroid?

BRAYZE'S TOP TEN

10)Final Fantasy Legend. The first RPG I ever played. I lived it, I loved it. I cried when JUNE lost her last heart and I had to put her down and get myself a new medusa. Ah, memories. All that aside, I loved the monster transformation stuff as well as the non-dragging combat and the different levelling schemes. Not to mention the fact that the storyline was so classic.
"Hey, there's a tower."
"What's up there?"
"Dunno. Paradise, maybe."
"Dude, I'm so there."
Plus you get to fight and kill God. Neitzsche would be proud, were he not currently the left armrest of the living throne of Satan himself.

9)Axelay
Awesome shooter for it's time. Great graphics, and it somehow didn't annoy me like most other shooters did (and still do). Not much to say about this except I played it into the ground, and eventually gave it away. This entry is gayer than usual, and I can't save it, so NEXT

8)Waku Waku 7
Holy shit is this game STUPID. Secret character #1 could be one of 2 things:
a)a large piece of chalk, or:
b)a punching bag.
Either is great. You can be a robot maid, a giant monster of some kind with a little girl in your backpack, some girl with rabbit ears... the character design is brilliantly retarded. It also plays really well, kinda like streetfigher on cartoon acid. Good times.

7)Metroid
Yes, the original. Often, as a youngster, I'd be at my friend's house, sitting up in her treehouse drawing comics. Eventually, I knew, as happened every day, we'd head down into her basement to play on the NES, invariably gravitating towards either Metroid or Megaman 2. She preferred Megaman 2, but I was all over Metroid like a Cambodian preteen on a British tourist. Hours of my youth wasted hopelessly lost in Norfair, slowly dying from the omnipresent lava... sigh. Solid gold.

6)Super Mario 2
Obviously not really a Mario game, which was probably why I liked it so much. The enemy design was top-notch; the levels were bizarre, and you could pick the Princess or Toad, which I thought was great because I really hate moustaches and also Italians. The game was a lot more fun than any of the other Mario games to date, and if you disagree I’ll hate you forever and burn your house down.

5)Bubble Bobble
Now it is the start of a fantastic story! Let us make a journey to the cave of monsters! Good luck! This is the video game equivalent of the Song that Doesn’t End. Except that it does eventually end, it’s just that not a single human being has ever gotten that far in the actual game without having some kind of supernatural buddha powers. That being said, this game is a truly awesome adventure into utter madness. It’s colorful, entertaining, the music coils itself around your medulla and NEVER STOPS EVER, and you’re a cute lil’ dinosaur who blows bubbles around various mechanical whales and winos tossing bottles at your face. Pure class.

4)Final Fantasy 3
I’m not some asspirate who refers to it as Final Fantasy 6, or ƒinal ƒantasy VI, or other such pretentious queerity. It’s fucking Final Fantasy 3, you know what I’m bloody well talking about. And it had the best storyline of any RPG, ever. Nowadays, RPGs are like watching shitty fanfictions animated in FMV. What’s even the reason to have such amazing graphics in an RPG? The only reason I can see is so various Morons and Tards can have pretty backgrounds for their gaywad websites. Final Fantasy 3 had the best FF villain ever, and some good character design, as well as innovative mini-sections and probably the best music in any game. Oh and by the way, if you are reading this, and you like FF 7, shoot yourself. I want my pillows fluffed when I get back to hell.

3)Armored Core (The whole series except for AC2)
Just Wow. It’s like a really awesome fighting game with fully customizable robots, thousands of different combinations, all sorts of weapons, targetting systems, generators, boosters, body parts, option parts, wowow! The graphics are lovely, the music is quality, the game is just plain good. My big, hopping pink mech, the Rabite, is a thing which openly terrifies my opponents. Yeah, still haven’t lost, but it’s just because I played the game so damn much. If the world ever needs a pilot for a giant mech whose interface is for some reason identical to a playstation controller, I am clearly the only option as a savior for mankind.

2)Pokemon (the whole series)
Well, what a surprise! I initially discovered Pokemon right after I finished Azure Dreams. I was thinking, “Well, that was okay, but is there some game that has MORE monsters to choose from?” Enter Pokemon. At first my friends thought I was crazy. “You’re crazy!” They said, twirling their umbrellas in my direction. But I knew better, and now many have succumbed to Pokemon’s soul-destroying call. Gold and Silver were even better than Red and Blue, and now Ruby and Sapphire are yet greater, somehow. Not only that, but it seems that the community is getting stupider every year, which has much the same effect as getting your picture taken next to a fat or ugly person.

1)Castlevania (post SoTN, inclusive)
Holy crap, what a perfect combination. All the stats, levels, equipment and magic of a role-playing game, but without the incredible BORING of levelling up in standard RPG combat? Sign me up, baby. Whoever came up with this gets blowjobs, no doubt about it. I’ve always wanted to be a homosexual vampire hunter on a journey through Nonsense Castle, and this game is an answer to my prayers.

Well, that felt pretty good.

But, I didn't actually contradict myself. I never did say that I don't actually like the crossovers. "most of them besides the crossovers" belong in my personal top 4, at #1. The crossovers don't belong at #1. My second post explains all that. Pay attention next time.

Yeah, so in your post you say that you don't like the "crossover joints with the effortless 40 hit combos".

Then, in the very same post, you go on to say that you do like the crossovers.

Even though in your first post it clearly states that you don't like the crossover joints.

Then you tell me to pay more attention.

And in that very same post you give some bullshit excuse about colons.

Who gives a fuck about colons?

Then you tell me that you never did contradict yourself in the first place.

That's obviously bullshit, since it's right there.

Then you tell me that you like the crossover joints again.

Then you tell me to pay attention yet again.

Yeah, you're a real fucking winner.

Erm, he never did say he dislike them; he said his #1 game(s) were the Street Fighters besides the ones with effortless 40+ hit ones. It's easy to see how it CAN be misconstrued as such, but it's still accurate. It'll be like saying that my #1 game(s) is the Mario series excluding Mario Sunshine, but that doesn't mean that I don't like Sunshine either; I just wouldn't think its as good as the other Mario games, but still good enough to bring enjoyment. Maybe it'd be #8 or something.

Basically, pay attention. ^^;

Okay, you're obviously missing one major fucking point here. The crossover joints he mentions such as marvel super heroes are in fact the series of games that introduced the effortless 40 hit combos into the street fighter scene. Note that he clearly points out that in his first post and then goes on to contradict himself three or so lines down. So, do your homework before you tell me to pay attention.

I'm reading your post again and again, and I don't really see the "point" that I missed. Yes, Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel VS Capcom, X-Men VS Street Fighter et al have effortless 40 hit combos, and 137 prefers the original non-crossovered Street Fighters over that series (maybe because of that, or maybe not, it doesn't really matter), but still enjoys the crossovers anyway.

I'm guessing you took his post to mean that because he's excluding those types of games from his #1 series to mean that he hates them, which isn't always the case, as I pointed out with my own example.

If there's something I'm apparently missing, please elaborate further.

Lets not fight about the Street Fighter nonsense. Lets share our love of Castlevania.

I don't think it's possible to make this any more clear. I think even my computer chair is starting to soak up the gist of the argument because I've made it so fucking clear it's not even funny.

But here goes.

137 made a post in a thread where you're supposed to write your favorite games.

137 says I like street fighter games except for those crossover joints with the effortless 40 hit combos. Keeping in mind this is in a thread where you're supposed to list games that you like, you can infer from this text that he likes street fighter 2, street fighter alpha series, and street fighter 3, et al.

But NO! He further goes on to say, contrary to his previous statement about the crossover joints, that he actually DOES like the crossover joint games. What doesn't make sense to me here is how he can say two opposite things in one post and yet eevryone else in the thread fails to realise it.

Ikuse points out the error of his ways. Instead of kindly editing his post to reflect the real nature of his video game oriented opinions, he decides to unwisely fight the issue, telling Ikuse that he does in fact like those crossover joints and that Ikuse should pay more attention.

Ikuse asserts that 137 should pay more attention to his posts because Ikuse's last post said that 137's first post contained two opposite street fighter stances simultaneously.

137 staunchly denies Ikuse's valid claim, because of reasons unknown, and continues to press the issue despite several facts pointing to the error of the inital post that 137 made in this thread.

At this point Ikuse gets fed up with this riff raff, so Ikuse constructs a completely flawless post regarding 137 and his erroneous statements regarding the effortless 40 hit combo crossover joints.

Someone else comes in who is apparently blindingly stupid and claims that he also cannot see where 137 has made a contradiction. He also foolishly asserts that Ikuse should pay more attention. At this point Ikuse almost loses faith in humanity, but luckily he is watching Conan O'Brien late at night so his faith is quickly restored.

Ikuse then points out to this interloper the error of his ways, but all he can do is merely go over points that he has already made, because that perfect, flawless post is at the zenith of postal evolution. No possible argument could be formulated in this situation to breach it's pristine walls. And yet, the interloper presses on.

He makes a post stating that he has read the post again and again. Well, maybe you should have tried stabbing yourself again and again in order to clear things up a little. Because you see, the only way for this particular poster to not understand the contradiction that 137 has made can only mean that the stupidity that he maintains makes all other earthly stupidity seem insignificant by comparison.

Ikuse's head almost explodes due to stupid intelligent contact but he manages to keep things together long enough to form one last post, hopefully annyone with an I.Q. in the range of a smashed fucking rock would be able to grasp the contents of my posts in this thread.

Yeah. In conclusion, you lack either the facilities of logical thought or you are without vision. In either case I'm going to have to ask you to step away from the computer, and discover the joys of eunuch-hood. Because y'see boys and girls, you never get anything out of dead testicles of eunuchs EVER.

As I've stated earlier, it's easy to infer that he dislikes the crossover games from his original post. However, with the benefit of his later posts (probably something I should've emphasized more), he later establishes that he meant that list to mean his top 4 games first, then games he also enjoys. With that explanation there, that's the reason why I continually fail to see the point you're trying to get across; the possible mistake in that post has already been corrected in a later one by the same person. Maybe he should've edited it, but anyone who actually reads his post in detail would likely read the rest of the thread in detail too, and receive the correct inference 137 meant.

My "pay attention" was meant to be a bit of satirical fun, to mirror the rest of the posts 137 made against you. If I'd truly meant it, I wouldn't have put that smiley there. I apologize if you felt any way insulted by it though.

Erm...... getting back on topic...

Final Fantasy Tactics - Best FF ever. An excellent storyline where the player actually FEELS what's happening. When an innocent is slaughtered, you actually FEEL rage. In this game, the characters are human, and you can see things from their view. And it pokes fun at the Catholics, and at Christianity to a certain extent.

Pokemon - The Chromatic games were amazing. Addicting. When I first got Pokemon Red, I played all night. I feel asleep in class for my first time because of that game. And then I feel asleep for my second time. Then the new versions came out. Great, but disappointing. Then game R/S, and all was good again.

Pokemon Puzzle League - Not as addictive as chocolate chip crack, but close. Basically the same thing. Despite being a remake of earlier games, it gets bonus points for letting me play as Erika.

Super Mario World - When I first saw video games, they did nothing more than look entertaining. I, however, had no interest in them. Then I played this game. And I mean REALLY played this game. And from then on I was hooked. Every moment, from when I FINALLY beat that damn Butter Bridge level, to when I finally got the maximum possible score through legitimate play, this game will forever be in my heart.

Super Mario All Stars - Needs no explanation.

Kirby Super Star - I love Kirby. And Kirby loves me back. This game has lots of Kirby. So this game lets lots of loving.

Final Fantasy 3 - SNES version. The PS version has horrible loading times. An excellent RPG that features an unforgetable opera scene. And Ultros was cool.

Monster Rancher 2 - A very underappreciated game from a very overlooked series. When my monster finished off Most in a single hit, I danced.

Mischief Makers - Another underlooked game that was damn fun. There should be more games with cute anime-styled robot maid girls that grab things and shake them.

Chrono Trigger - Also the SNES version, as the PS loading time is longer than the game itself. I saved up all my money and bought the cart back when it was still fairly available. I went around town for almost three hours before I threw down $70 for it. If God plays video games, I'm sure He has this in His SNES right now.

And now a few honourable mentions:
Castlevania series
Breath of Fire series
Paper Mario
Harvest Moon series
Final Fantasy Legend, the best non-Final Fantasy Final Fantasy game I've ever owned.
Most of the Sonic the Hedgehog games.

In no particular order...

Earthbound - great game overall, and my first reason to download zsnes. However, I should have known that my favorite thing would become my attack. That was...a surprise [Embarrassed]

Pokemon - no explanation needed

Final Fantasy - some were awesome, some weren't, personally I like FFIII and FFVII best

Sonic Adventure - both of them; I'd played this series back from when I had a Genesis, just as fun now as was then

Castlevania CotM - the first Castlevania game I played. I thought it was going to be mediocre, but it left me very satisfied.

Sim City - I remember playing this years ago and loving it

Zelda Ocarina of Time - for probably all the same reasons that have been mentioned by everybody else here

Starcraft - no explanation needed

Also, I seem to sense a certain lack of Halo in this topic...

Ikuse, I'm going to rewrite the original post so that you can understand. I was gonna just drop it, but you seem pretty upset and hung up on the whole thing.
quote:
What 137 originally meant:
#1)Street Fighter: Most of them besides the crossover joints with the effortless 40+ combos belong at #1 in my most favorite games list.
#2)Super Mario World: I'm fucking raw on that game. I can juggle turtleshells, and have other useless skills. Also, 96* in under 3 hours.
#3)Pokemon: the portable cartridges. Just broke 300 hours in Ruby.
#4)Dead or Alive: the one for Xbox. I don't know if it's a sequel or not.
I also enjoy the following games, and I have no intention of misleading anyone to believe that I do not enjoy these games, therefore I will at no point state that I do not enjoy the following:
Mario 64
MarioKart
Capcom crossover fighters incl. Marvel Super Heroes
I intend to edit in more games as they come to mind later, but I have a feeling my role in this thread will take me in another direction.

That may or may not be clear enough for you, despite the fact that all these points were made in previous posts.
I believe the root of the misunderstanding is this:
quote:
Originally posted by Ikuse:Yeah, so in your post you say that you don't like the "crossover joints with the effortless 40 hit combos".

I didn't ever say I don't like them.

Oh yeah. I'd also like to take a bow for making people use the word "joints" so much, and also let's be done with this.
EDIT: and I'd like to apologize to cfalcon for launching right back into this as soon as the thread was reopened, but at least I didn't carry this to either of its daughter threads.

But I explained that the first 4 were a top 4 thing. Street Fighter belongs at #1, except for the crossovers. They belong below #4. The first line was to be my #1, and not to include things that aren't #1. Those came later.
I see why you were confused at first, so in my 2nd post I tried to explain the confusing part, and then made a lighthearted jab (which I thought was blatantly tongue-in-cheek) which you apparently took to heart. You should have your blood pressure looked at.

Um... lets take a look at that sentence, break it down if need be.

Street Fighter: Most of them besides the crossover joints with the effortless 40+ combos.

Okay... you start with the word "crossover". That's fine. Next comes "joints". When you put that word on, it seperates crossovers from normal Street Fighter games.

Then you follow with "with the effortless 40+ combos." That shows your distaste and implies that you dislike crossovers and their combos.

Then you say that you like crossovers.

Now what you're saying could work if you didn't use the word 'joints'. Lets replace that word with one with the same implication, but on the extreme:

Most of them besides the crossover shits with the effortless 40+ combos.

The idea is that you're insulting the crossover as a concept with not only the isolating of them into a group (not a group labeled highly in regard), and strapping an insult on them.

Then you say you like them. Hypocrisy!

You infer far too much. I don't know where you got the idea that "joints" is derogatory, in the same vein as "shits". When Spike Lee puts out a film and calls it a Spike Lee Joint, he isn't being disparaging. It's a blanket noun referring to anything you don't feel like coming up with a better noun for, and really has no implications aside from what is stated (at least in my region of the country).
Neither is "effortless 40+ combos" indicative of distaste. I was making an exaggeration in order to clarify which games I was talking about. Since in the other Street Fighter games nothing over 10 hits or so can be considered effortless, I figured it was a pretty good distinction. This doesn't mean that I enjoy blasting people with a beam of Hadoken any less than a button-masher does.

Please shut up. This discussion is as futile as me trying to explain my sperm eating thingie.

137 does like the crossover joints (a 5), though not as much as the original games.

Ikuse saw a grammar-error, which indeed was kinda stupid, but is not something that big.\

So both of you, stop it. Be4 cfalcon closes this wonderful thread again.

And if you guys continue, I challenge both of you to a free-fight-match. Even teamed against me if you want.

Good, now that this is open again, I can post my list:

  1. Super Mario Bros. 3 - This is self-explanatory. You're an idiot if you don't know why this game rocks.
  2. Super Mario World - Although nearly as great as SMB3, it's merely a visual upgrade and lacks the cool power ups. However, they do make up for it with the cape and Yoshi. Blue Yoshi + Cape = flying god. Star Road and the Special levels were great too.
  3. Super Mario Bros. - The classic. You can't beat the classic. It's the alpha and the omega.
  4. The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past - Personally, my favorite installment of the Zelda series. It's not nearly as linear as the games after this and it really let you explore stuff.
  5. Chrono Trigger - One of the best RPGs ever. I have a real thing for time travel. I love the combination attacks. I also love how you can play the game infinitely and get all those different endings.
  6. Pokémon Yellow & Crystal - These two games represent the best that the Pokémon series had to offer, in my opinion. I had more fun, and still am, having more fun with these than Ruby/Sapphire.
  7. Mario Party - Honestly, I'll never need to play a board game again. This game (and it's sequels) are really the best four-player games I've ever played. Nothing like getting friends together to play this.
  8. Super Smash Bros. Melee - Nothing like having all your favorite Nintendo characters battling for supremacy, especially since I get to use Princess Peach.
  9. Final Fantasy VI - After Chrono Trigger this would be the other great RPG. It has everything you could ask for in an RPG - a good story, good characters, a real jackass of a bad guy, and great attacks. It also has one of the best soundtracks for a game ever. Of the FF series, this and FFVII would tie as the best for me.
  10. Mega Man III - The best Mega Man in my opinion. It had everything - new moves like sliding, the introduction of Rush and Blues/ProtoMan, the best soundtrack of the series, and it even had the bosses from MMII (the best MM bosses IMO) in it, and Wily almost looked like he was gonna go straight. Classic platforming goodness.
You know, I just noticed a lot of "3"s. SMB3, MMIII, FFVI (FFIII in the U.S.), A Link to the Past is the third Zelda game, Yellow and Crystal are the third in each series... I guess third time really is the charm for me.

In no particular order:

- Super Mario Bros. 3 (See separate topic)

- Battletoads. Yeah baby.

- Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Those quasi- 3D levels with Tails and Sonic were cool.

- Zelda series. I absolutely loved Majora's Mask. That game is cruelly underappreciated by a lot of people The only Zelda game I have not played is Oracle of Seasons. OoT was excellent, no doubt, but I got more out of Majora for some reason. I thought it was deeper.

- Dragon Warrior Monsters. Holy shit those games are good.

- Fucking.... MEGA MAN series.caption? No caption.

- Streets of Rage series. Sega Genesis... ahhh.

- Donkey Kong Country series. 1 was the best in my opinion, but the others were cool, too. The theme kept changing.

- Power Stones 1 and 2. Dreamcast... those games were great.

- Resident Evil series. I never get tired of those games.

- Castlevania series. Action RPGs r00L.

- Pokemon series. I heart them. Fun-ness.

- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. The game was an endless orgasm.

- Duck Hunt.

- Metroid series. I didn't like the one for game boy, though. Fusion was good, Metroid 2: return of samus was kind of weak.

- Mario Kart 64.

- GoldenEye. Damn son.

- Super Smash Bros. and SSBM. All night long.

I can't think of anymore. Oh, metal gear soid. um rainbow six. er....I also liked eternal darkness and pikmin.

10. Lunar: Legend (GBA)
An otherwise mediocre RPG, unremarkable in every way. Also, a very short game. However, a lush, vibrant world, combined with richly developed characters, a decent plot, and reasonable graphics saved it.

9. Terranigma (SNES)
Yet again, a very mediocre game. However, a godly soundtrack and a good plot put it on my list. Plus, there was a lot more you could do than in other Zelda clones, attack-wise.

8. Metroid Prime (GC)
A worthy follower in the Metroid line of games. Gameplay was entertaining. However, the thing that gets it onto this list (and makes it ten times better and more of a Metroid game than Fusion, IMO) is the mood. From the constant enemy attacks to the humorous computer entries, the game did a good job making you feel like you were alone, and the world (epic in proportion by its own right) was just as wondrous as the world from any of the previous Metroid games - moreso, in fact. I felt Samus was characterized far better in this game (with her role as silent protagonist, but a few heroic moments) than in any of her "blah blah blah computer adam lady blah" Fusion monologues. A sub-par FPS, a great adventure game, and an excellent Metroid successor.

7. Super Smash Bros.: Melee (GC)
Worthy sequel to SSB. I kick ass with Falco and Ganondorf.

6. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
They just don't make Zelda games like this anymore.

5. Super Mario World (SNES)
The first SNES game I ever played. Godly.

4. Final Fantasy 4/5/6 (SNES)
These games are so similar, I'll put them together right here. All three of them were true epics, with everything marking them as such. Great soundtracks and the impression that the designers didn't know how to color, so they just splashed weird faggot colors on every character, as well as the uber-high nostalgia value, give these games a place on my list.

3. Final Fantasy 1 (NES)
I remember this game because, unlike later FF games, it was actually moderately challenging. You went into a dungeon, and if there were two Wizards instead of four, or CHAOS didn't use Cure4 too quickly, or those fucking Sorcerors didn't kill you two steps from the exit of the Ice Cave... you might make it out. Plus, a decent storyline with only one major twist (but that's all it needed) made it all worth it.

2. Final Fantasy Legends I, II, and III
I couldn't possibly rank these separately, so all these games are here together. Any one of them, I could pick up and play through within a few days, just for fun. I felt FFL2 was a little below the others because of how fucking random it was, though. Raising one's Strength in those critical first few hours of the game could happen instantly or take fucking forever. FFL3 is a personal favorite of mine: you could play through as fully five different kinds of creature, and each one made the game unique in its own way. As a human/mutant, equipment was the order of the day: as a beast, talents were the way to go: as a monster, you could fight with very little money since equipment didn't do shit for you: and as a cyborg or robot, you had full control over how your characters ended up, through choice of equipment or pills to give them. And, of course, there is FFL1, with simplistic gameplay but a truly epic feel that seems lacking from the other two, plus the stock-standard single plot twist that's the only one required.

1. Secret of Mana (SNES)
From romping through the Pureland to furiously trying to level in the Mana Fortress and back to fighting simple Rabites, to finally figuring out that I don't need to level up every weapon or spell with every character because that's fucking stupid and takes hours, to realizing that yes, it's okay to finally go through the Southtown Ruins and level 60 is high enough... this was my first RPG as a kid, and it will always be my favorite.

Those two quotes are the funniest things in this topic. They made me roffle. Being amidst 137 and Ikuse's rambling made it even funnier cause you would be reading about how they like/dislike joints and stuff and all of a sudden, we would hear about moustaches and sperm. Yeah.

EDIT: Okay, I might as well list my favs while I'm here...

- The Mario series. SMB1 through SMW. Ownage in the Mario universe right there.

- Zelda: A Link to the Past. I chose this one because I haven't played the others enough to judge them. However, I have played LttP several times and it is truly an awesome game with a lot of depth and fun.

- The Megaman series. Old school was fun. When MMX came out for SNES, I rejoiced. Never got to play MMX2 or MMX3 though. [Frown] Anyhoo, so what if the gameplay is similar for all of them. That doesn't make it bad, as I have heard many critics say. They are still fun.

- The Street Fighter series. Has anyone ever seen the SF anime? How is that? I always wanted to delve into the characters backgrounds and stories.

- Bubsy. The witty feline makes it in my book. Yay yarnballs!
