The opposite of the other. What games are considered crappy by the masses, but you love anyways?
Armored Core, the entire series. People bitch about the controls being crap. They simply take time to learn.
Metroid Fusion. People can't seem to figure out what the fuck to think of it. One moment it's beloved as a new 2D Metroid, the next everyone bitching because it has a plot, and the linearity to go with it.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front Very hard, strategy-stressing game... damned fun when you know what you're doing, horribly frustrating otherwise.
So, what games do you people like that are considered crap by most?

The people who bitch about the controls in Armored Core don't realize that playing the game takes a lot of precision to play competitively. Analog sticks are too loose for that kind of game.
That being said, my favorite RPG of all time is King's Field 2(3). I like an RPG game that forces you to explore instead of telling you where to go next. People have been so softened by Final Fantasy and its ilk that they bitch if their hand isn't held throughout the entire fucking game.

Body Harvest.
The most slow, buggy, crappy, annoying, frustrating, low poly count, *shocking* fogging, terrible textured game on the N64.
Get into a vehicle, though, and it's all worthwile. If they got rid of the more useless adventuring aspects (apparently at one point it was a cooperation with Nintendo to be a 3D action-adventure!), the more stupid of the cliffs and the main character's luggard ass then it'd be a great fuckin' game.

Chrono Cross (For Playstation)= a DAMN AWESOME RPG. It has awesome characters (Solt and Peppor. 'Nuff said.), it has a damned cool plot, it's almost entirely nonlinear, it has some of the coolest graphics known to man, AND you don't have to level up like a bitch for boss fights =D. Plus, it has AWESOME music. Scars of Time... *drools*
Mischief Makers (For N64) One of only a few platformers that don't bore the shit outta me. Besides, you get to play as a robot and deal with "Clan Balls." Yes, Clan Balls. That's what they call them. Really!

I sure as hell didn't think it was, but I've seen plenty of people bitch about the computer and linearity it brings to the game. Given it sacrifices nonlinearity(which Super Metroid lacked only if you found a crapload of tricks) for plot, I have no problem with it. Plenty of others, though, bitch endlessly about it.

Meh, the problem isn't so much that it's linear as it is the fact that it's so damn obvious about it. Metroid Prime, for instance, was linear as all hell, although you could find secrets along the way, but it didn't come out and say "HAY I WANT YOU TO GO HERE". Well, unless you had hints turned on.
Super Metroid was also linear, but the linearity came from the order in which you got items, not from some pathetic attempt to characterize a necessarily silent protagonist (seriously, that scene in Prime where she *SPOILER* jumps into Metroid Prime's final hole with no hesitation told me more about Samus than any of her inner monologues in Fusion).

Azure Dreams (lol it has Azure in the title what the hell) yeah. rpgish thing. you go into this tower, level, kill stuff, get stuff, leave. you return to lvl 1 each time you enter, so you have to get better gear to get higher. Sooner or later, gear means crap, and you have to rely on little monsters (omg pokeyman influence) to kill stuff for you. All while a town develops just outside this tower. Dear god i regret trading it in, but the GBC version will have to sate me until i can find another copy.
Also, i wish i had Mischief Makers back
Lastly, no one I know classified Bomberman 64 (well, the first one) as bad, thus i believe it does not belong in this topic. w

Although most people said it sucked, I liked Quest 64.
It wasn't your traditional RPG, battle-wise and stat-wise, but it was those differences that made it cool. I liked the little circles that were involved in the battle fields, and the whole not gaining levels thing was so different. Like defense. You increase your defense by getting attacked, (as if your skin got callused and harder or something) so you would train your guy by letting foes chop you to low life, then heal up. Different. Interesting.
And then there was that blue cave that never, ever seemed to end. Thats something cool to remember.

I've read crappy reviews of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, but I just love that game. I really kicks ass. I bought another controller just so my friends and I could do two-player, and I don't even own the game. I can't find it much of anyplace.
If I think of any others, I'll post them as well.

Bomberman 64 got great reviews. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Turtles in Time was very popular. Zaxxon is a complete classic. No one hates it! Some people may not have heard of it, but totally classic. Metroid Fusion is considered by many to be the best game on the GBA. Chrono Cross is the long awaited series to Chrono Trigger, considered by some to be the best RPG ever made. Anyone complaining is just comparing it to the previous game. Castlevania 64 might count. It got some shitty reviews, and wasn't that hot, objectively. Body Harvest could count too.
Then there are the games I haven't heard of. Those almost certainly count.
Most of what was listed was "mainstream" and in some cases just didn't live up to expectations. That's not bad. A bad game is one that most people get pissed at, and a game you put in this topic is one of those piles that you actually play.
Like, there's this game for the old GB where you have to pick these old Japanese characters- monk, peasant, samurai, ninja, maybe one more. They cost money. They stand in a formation, and you walk around with them. One button changes your formation (all of them are pretty stupid), and each dude shoots differently. The other button makes them all shoot. The ninja shoots stars up and down, the peasant has a rifle that shoots slowly. Select will sacrifice your lead dude and give you something: the Monk turns into father time and speeds you through the level, the peasant just hits everything on the screen at once.
If any of you guys play *that* game, you list it.
Not Metroid Fusion, a game which *some* don't think lives up to the past in the series. Not Mario Sunshine because it's too short, not Zelda because Link looks like the gayest fag that every homoed a... gay fag homo.
Yea!
Get to it!

Oh jesus it never stopped.
Yea, that's a good game to bring up. I played through that game, and it was clearly half done. Levelling system silly and FFII style. No money system (it was put in for the Japanese release). Scenes between towns ludicrous and painful. Wonderful graphics, detailed settings. Most rooms empty and incomplete.
I mean, wowo.
That's the kind of turd I think is totally appropriate here, because it was good in some ways, but if someone said they hated it, I couldn't really argue.
I still remember levelling up water to get healing, then I think I went with air for about the rest of the game or something. I'm a sucker for elemental stuff.

Bomberman 64 is the greatest game ever.
With the possible exception of Stretch Panic. I don't know if it's considered bad because as far as I know, nobody's ever heard of it. It's 20% exploration and 80% boss fights, and the 20% exploration consists ENTIRELY of spanking ridiculously large-breasted girls with a possessed scarf. ~Uiru- "To defeat them, you have to snap any part of their body OTHER than their breasts... which is like trying to shoot an arrow through a keyhole."

Olympics, with Neanderthals. Dino racing, wife tossing, wooden club fights, just a lot of button mashing fun. Poor graphics, ok controls, but hey I liked it.
Body Harvest was fun. If you like cheesy sci-fi stuff, then you could forgive BH short comings. It was the little touches that made it shine. Chopping up zombies with the grain harvester, the set of the lunar landing in that secret American base, the final all-out attack level. It made you feel like the producers really loved thier project. Shame it had so many delays. It could have been so much more.

Wip3out. Sure, some people liked it (me included) but it never became a great hit, and I don't recall reading any magazine articles about its greatness. IMO it's the best game in the Wipeout series. It's smooth, easy to control (with the analog stick) and the craft handle just as they should. Fusion is also easy to control, but it's worse because the crafts handle way too different (for example, they don't jump off ledges, they go a few meters then drop straight down, they also skid on ice and sand, which makes absolutely no sense at all given that they are hovercrafts) and there are too few courses and crafts. Plus the loading times are horrible.
I also loved Phalanx (for the GBA). Sure, it's not really worth the money, but it is very fun and it has a pretty unique power-up system: you collect different weapons (lasers etc) then switch between them, instead of discarding one to pick up another. Each of these weapons can be powered up individually, and you can also sacrifice one of the weapons for a special weapon (if you sacrifice the laser, I think, your ship starts spinning around and fires a rapid stream of plasma balls, etc).

I get a whole lot of shit for liking the Smash Bros games. I realize they're not traditional fighting games, but I sure as hell wouldn't call them bad. However, "bad" seems to be the general consensus with the fighting game purists.
As far as just a retarded, silly-ass game I enjoy...WWF Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth. A guy in my dorm has the game, and we all sat around using the character creation feature to make replicas of ourselves. Much chaos ensued, and it was good.

Haha. Not bad, just misunderstood. Not that this forum is gonna have a biased opinion or anything, but still. Most the time when people fuck with me about Pokemon, they're operating under the assumption that it's a completely mindless kids' game. Of course, once I set them straight, they see the error of their ways and abandon their evil practice of harassing me for being a moron...and proceed to harass me for being a completely shameless geek instead.

I liked DBZ Budokai (which is obviously a bad game) right up until I realized I sucked at it. I played the computer for 2 days unlocking everything, and I could beat the biggest tourney in a snap, but then when other people learned to play it my timing just sucked, and I got destroyed. Which I found odd 'cause fighting games are the one thing I'm automatically good at. My submissions are from this stupid little GBC cartridge I picked up in Toronto's Chinatown, that claimed to have 16 games on it, but turned out that it had six and the rest were renames (like you can choose to play either Dragon Slayer or Dragon Killer 1). It has a Tetris variant calles Flash Tetris/Bomb Tetris where you have to line up 3 joints of the same color and if you destroy the flashing ones at the bottom all the joints of that color disappear. It has 3 colors, and some pieces have 5 joints in'em and . . . It also has something called Flipull, where you bounce around little squares with shapes in 'em and make other ones go away. I still don't understand all the rules, but I can play it for about 2 hours.

SaGa Frontier 2.
I hearted how you could fight some enemy groups one on one or group on group. When you're fighting one on one, you have to choose your actions from stuff like Slash, Cleave, and Feint. Choosing a certain combination in a certain order lets you do a special attack, such as Slash-Slash for Double Slash or Feint-Slash for Mist Double. It also does the same thing for spells, too, but is far more limited. There are even some "hybrid arts" that combines magic and fighting attacks for a special move.
Fun stuff. Too bad the last boss for Will's story owns me too badly for me to want to try again. 8(
