I did this a while ago for the N64, and basically I'm just amazed at how few good games are out there. Well, I guess it's not all that amazing, considering how many people share the same good memories about the same relatively short list of games.

Anyway, I've played Super Mario RPG and it was OK. I gather that Earthbound is also a classic of some sort.

Looking at the used game bin yesterday, I saw a lot of interesting titles (like the Ren & Stimpy game), but I know I've rented a lot of games with a lot of promise that turned out to be utter krap.

So...any suggestions for the SNES? I bought that damn thing just to play SMRPG, but now that I'm done with it, it's just gathering dust.

Feel free to mention all sorts of games for the sake of discussion, but keep in mind that I fucking hate platformers that require tons of hippity hop. I used to be able to beat Shinobi on one quarter, tho...

Get a Sega Master System and get Alex Kid in Mircale World.

Edit: Oh, and the Star Wars game for SNES is pretty good.

The Final Fantasies are good (Do NOT get Mystic Quest). And I assume you have Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island. Zelda is good... Secret of Mana...

Oh, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time.

Taranigma(sp?) was an interesting, long game.

Chrono trigger is a must for RPG fans, best snes game ever. [Embarrassed]

There's donkey kong if your a nintendo freak.

I've got a nasty fever, so 75% of my brain is turned off right now, but there are a lot of other good titles.
I would just browse the gamefaq.com snes board/s.

Yeah, Earthbound is a classic...

The SNES titles that come to mind for me:

*Super Mario RPG
*Earthbound
*Mario Paint [need the mouse though]
*Starfox
*Super Mario World
*TMNT Turtles in Time
*TMNT Tournament Fighters (if you are a super TMNT give this game a chance)
*Super Mario All Stars
*Mario Kart
*The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (some people still consider this the best Zelda ever made...)
*Donkey Kong Country

Try to find Sim Ant. You can recruit foraging parties, attack caterpillars and spiders, and invade a human home from the backyard. You have all the chemical signal abilites of ants, so that if you find food, you leave a nice trail for the otheres to follow. Manage workers vs breeders, and fight the evil red ants. Loads of fun. Wish I had bought it instead of just renting it.

Earthbound is high on my list of Fave Game of All Time, but it is not perfect. The combat system is very utilitarian. Fighting consist of a static portrait of the enemy in front of a psycadelic (spell check?!) background, and you don't even see yourself. You don't time your attacks like in Paper Mario. You know what happens by the little message box. Spells consist of flashes of light and moving shapes. Really, you play just to advance the story and talk to all the weird people. You don't get bogged down fighting weak baddies either, because they run away from you once you get too strong for them. But some you want to fight anyway, just because they are so creative and original.

OK, no more fanboy rambling, I promise.

Rock'N'Roll Racing- Kind of like RC Pro/Am, very nice.
Uniracers- You race riderless unicycles and do stunts to go faster. Unique concept, fun graphics make it fell like you're goin hella fast.

Two of the least known and best games ever made for SNES in my view.

I thought Metriod had tons of hip-hop stuff.

I had this gigantor post that dissappeared.

Basically, I pointed out that there are a ton of wonderful SNES games, more than the N64 by a long shot.

-Zelda: a Link to the Past is a MUST.
-Soulblazer
-You might like Actraiser

The SNES has my two favorite gun games anywhere, Metal Combat and its sequel.

All the Square RPGs, like Final Fantasys, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, etc.

You will find the SNES rewarding. There's a lot less of that 3D nonsense, so the games are straightforward and fun. No wacky camera stuff.

Hmm. So far, Earthbound sounds best. The easy Turtles beat-'em-up also sounds like it might be fun. I don't mind a little trouble in a game, but there are something things (for example, a lot of the mini-game style shit in SMRPG) that just piss me off so much that I refuse to play them.

Would some of you guys who just threw out names splain what kinda games they are?

Some of them sound like hippity-hop games...oh, I also hate racing games.

Sim Ant sounds stressful, but intriguing.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions so far. There are probably some things on list I'll look for...as soon as I finish playing what I'm playing now, which I'll mention in another thread because I am enjoying the ever-luvin' piss out of it.

Speaking of Sega Master Games you also want that AREN'T Alex Kidd, go get Wonderboy 3 or else you're missing out on what would probably be the game for it.

On the SNES note...

Why haven't any of you even think of mentioning Kirby Super Star or Kirby's Dreamland 3? Get Kirby Super Star. That ends my Superliminal messaging.

The funny thing was that the hard mode was actualy easier because you got 5 Continues instead of the 3 you got on easy mode.
Of course you probally won't need any continues.
I liked Throwing the enemies out of the screen, atack right atack+down.

Oh, and i remember that your Characters special move was actualy not that good because everytime you used it you losted 3 hp bars.

Starfox is a good game, and classic- but I don't know if I would forward it as one of the SNES best. Remember, just because it was the first place to get an actual 3D game into your house outside of a flight sim on a computer won't make K be able to sit through the 10ish frames per second.

However, it is still a well designed game, better in general than the N64 one (probably because Nintendo did little of the level design, it was an English company from which Nintendo stole Giles Goddard).

Anyway, to Mr. K: go play that Zelda game. Like, as soon as you have the chance, run by the Dadeland EB and see if they have it. Or the Falls. Or go online.

It is really good, and since you like overhead you'll do fine (there *technically* is a little bit of jumping, but not really). When the game was new you might be able to get stuck or not find something, but that isn't really likely now, so go!

-Chrono Trigger
-Final Fantasy 5/6
-Secret of Mana
-Sailor Moon: Another Story (I loved this game :X)
-Kirby Superstar
-Super Mario All-Stars (Can't beat the classic Mario games and such. I hated the RPG, by the way, but the Axem Rangers were cool...)
-Tales of Phantasia
-Super Metroid
-Lufia II isn't bad...
-That Turtles In Time game isn't too bad, either.

I totally forgot about this one before:

Final Fantasy 2 (I know it's like 4 or something in Japan, but, in USA they called it FF2)

Me, I thought it was a really good game... It's the only FF I've ever made it all the way through... or probably played more than an hour of for that matter...

Alright, I dug through more games to find ones that K should play. Battleclash and Metal Combat (the two best Super Scope games) are by the same walking Japanese god that brought us Metroid, Gumpei Yokoi (you can also thank him for the Virtual Boy). I really think these are good games, and everyone I've been able to talk into playing doesn't actually disagree. The big problem is getting the retardo gun, which is a little hard to come by, and makes you look like a giant fag... but I really do think it's the best of the guns for any system ever, from a controller perspective.

Anyway, in this game you are in a two person mech (most are one person), and you have a pilot to, you know, go left and right or whatever. You are the gunner, and damn do you gun. You shoot their shots, you shoot their body, you shoot their limbs, you shoot their guns, you shoot their face, you shoot their everything, and blow it all up. Each mech is different, and some are damn cool.

Anyway, the sequel is even better, and you get to shoot some more.

If the SNES had shipped with the Super Scope people would simply not shut up about these games. As it is, no one has played them and they aren't percieved that great.

But I guess I could be opinionated here, because I like giant robots and I like guns and I like explosions.

But who doesn't like that shit?

Anyway, I found some strategy games that are OK, but I wouldn't send K at them (I would instead recommend Master of Orion for the PC, but that isn't for everyone)...

If any of you like games where you just shoot at shit and you are a little ship, I suggest Gradius III. Axelay is also OK, but I wasn't as blown away as EGM was.

There's also some decent fighting games (Samuria showdown is good because you can be a ninja, and there's also a Ninja Turtles fighting game which rules if you and your friends just play the turtles).

I would also like to recommend the Zelda game.

cfalcon: If any of you like games where you just shoot at shit and you are a little ship, I suggest Gradius III. Axelay is also OK, but I wasn't as blown away as EGM was.

What's the name of the one I like? I think its Earth Defense Force or something.

I think it was after the fourth time we stopped at a turnpike rest stop to play Aerofighters that I finally decided "If I can't beat him, I'll join him." I really enjoyed that one on the SNES, too.

Yea, Aerofighters is great, too... but it isn't as good as in the arcade (naturally).

It's actually pretty close in two player mode: one player mode they make up these lame rules that totally ruin it. Team Japan is the most fun, because one of you is a ninja and the other can stop time.

Yea, Earth Defense Force is the one with like 8 weapons but you always pick Homing except on the last level. That's the game that I need to take "Atomic" on, because the last boss is really hard and Atomic creates a huge explosion (when powered up, which it is by the end of the game), and the explosion slows down the poor SNES when combined with all the enemy shots (which is when you need the slowdown). I've never beaten the game with any other weapon.

That's a good game, too.

Kirby's Dream Land 3(GREAT with a second player), Super Bomberman 2, Terranigma, Live A Live(get the last two as ROMs, the latter has a full English patch you can get).

I very highly reccomend:

Super Metroid

Seriously, it's really sad that only two people (that I noticed) mentioned Super Metroid. Because, as any true video game fan knows, Super Metroid is not only the best game for the Super NES, but the BEST VIDEO GAME EVER!!

That is all.
