I remeber a while ago I heard that Fly was legal on Pikachu/Raichu in Stadium RBY. Well, I think there were plans to actually have a way to win one, but they decided not to, and forgot to take the legallity of using the move out of stadium.

There's a bunch of things I've noticed. In the intro for Pokemon yellow, it shows both a surfing Pikachu and a Pikachu flying around on balloons. Also, in Pokemon TCG for gameboy there is a surfing Pikachu card and a card called "Flying Pikachu", and Pikachu is flying around on balloons again!

Fly on Raichu wouldn't be that bad, it would cover the one type that both surf and thunderbolt aren't very effective on, Grass. However, body slam quite a chunk more powerful and a tad more accurate. Also, its favorable when fighting a chansey to use a 1 turn attack to prevent it from evading while you are in the air. And even if you fly against an Exeggutor, they will likely switch. But then again, who would they switch to? Rhydon? The only thing I see being a problem would be another electric, and you can just switch in a ground type if it becomes a problem.

So the big question is, should flying Raichu be legalized?

I just had a strange picture come into my head of looking at the sky and seeing a Flying Pikachu going,"Pika!" with a huge grin on its face and swooping down with fangs to eat me....

*Is carried away in Straightjacket*

Flying Raichu...I couldn't imagine it though, though its uses could be interesting as its weakness to Grass is down, Surf is allowed though so I see no reason why not. Pathetic Nintendo attempt in making Pika and its evolutions capable of being effective on everything o_0

Interesting though, good topic

Even with Surf, Raichu is nowhere close to overpowered. Giving it Fly wouldn't change things much. I say they should have gone for it.

There are plenty of moves in Stadium that don't show up in pink. By your criteria, Mewtwo with Spore would be legal, as it doesn't show up in pink.

So, how do you get Fly on Pikachu in Japanese Blue?

IIRC, I've asked Meowth the same thing, but he never replied. Either he is a) trying to keep it a secret or b) doesn't know how to get it.

(Meowth, I don't mean to be rude to you or anything, but in fact, you never told me how to get Fly on Pikachu.)

Call that post bad wording on my part. FLYing Pikachu was a sorta' gift, given around the time of Blue Version's release in Japan. Therefore, those who bought Blue in Japan at its first mail order release (not the re-release many, many years later) would have known about the FLYing Pikachu "give-away".

That's just one of those things that never made it outside of Japan. Sorta' like if there's no English counterpart to the Mobile Adapter, then we'll never have Clefable with Dizzy Punch.

Edit:
Dizzypuff? Oops ^_^;; I was thinking that Jigglypuff (Igglybuff) was the prize at first, and it sunk in as I went to type Clefable instead.

You mean like a Mew giveaway? That explains it all. It also gives us a good excuse to shark fly on Pikachu. If you have a japanese friend, at least.

I expected it to take longer for someone to say tha this makes "sharking onto Pikachu/Raichu FLY legal". It's not possible to trade a Japanese FLYing Pikachu to an English game, or any other language game than anothe Japanese game, so there's no way that Pikachu can have FLY in the English versions via Japanese games.

My friend has a Japanese Silver. He claims he traded pokémon between it and his friends American Red with no trouble.

If it's true, I don't know.

Every time that I successfully trade between an English and Japanese version of Pokémon (with RGBY), both games end up with a Pokémon that crashes the game when you check the PC, Pokémon stats, enter battle and check Pokémon, etc, and requires Stadium or remove.

As for Gold/Silver/Crystal linking--I don't remember the results. I'll have to try later. Maybe with Crystal since I just started a new game on it (in case anything goes wrong and I need to restart).

That was also in the intro.

Fear not, I believe that you will be able to get ONE of the eggs that will hatch into a pkmn that knows Dizzy Punch, when you goto the Day Care center in crystal for the first time, see if they give you an odd egg, if so, there ya go. Atleast Nintendo semi-left that in there. Unlike celebi, mobile adpater, goldenrod pkmn center...

*ties the end of a rope to a hot-air balloon*
*ties the other end to Piakchu's ankles*
*lifts off the balloon to about 300 feet*

There ya go, flying Pikachu.

But of the four Dragon-types, Dratini and Dragonair aren't fully evolved, and Kingdra and Dragonite take normal damage from Thunderbolt because of their second-types.

Although I suppose a Conversion2 Porygon2 could get lucky...

Meh, I have a Charmeleon because I don't want a 4x weakness to Rock, so that never stopped me before

Some people are known to use Poliwhirl, Scyther, and Onix for the additional speed. I suppose some people might use Dragonair, Pupitar, Pineco, etc. for the type... Ok, maybe not Pineco... And definitely not Magikarp

The problem with that is they don't get the evolution stat raise. Although I admit to using Dragonair at one time. Tis great for weaknesses, but Dragonite is sooo much more powerful, and it only has 1 more weakness.

1 more weakness?
Do you need to take Type Class again?

You lose your resistance to Electric, you double your weakness to Ice and add a weakness to Rock.

On the other hand, you do get a resistance to Fighting (yay ) and an immunity to Ground.
