Most Japanese still sleep on futons, which are sort of like a cross between sleeping bags and beds--rather thin mattresses which are rolled out directly onto the floor, and then rolled back up in the morning. Last I checked, "western" beds were still considered a novelty.

And GS is a rather Japanese game...note how most private homes have shoes by the doorway.

I base my G/S kid-Oak theory on the resemblance he has to Ash (brother-ish resemblance).

Ash seems to be Oak's son because of the fact that in the anime, Oak is ALWAYS around her mom. The resemblance between Ash and Gary. Oak and Ash's mother both always send Ash around so they can be alone. Ash's mom had to trouble allowing her 10 year old to venture out in the wild. Oak had to problem giving a wild Pokemon to a new trainer. Oak purposely gave Ash the G/S ball.
Why won't Oak admit this? Because NOBODY in their right mind would admit Ash is their child. Face it people, kids like Ash are the ones propping up the condom industry.

So, if you follow this conventional wisdom, you would learn that Ash's mom is actually his hemaphrodite FATHER. You should actually be spending time searching for Ash's biological mother.

But, don't let that take away from Prof. Oak's pimpyness. I'm a firm believer that raising Pokèmon is Oak's excuse to get the kids out of the house and make some "house calls" (Isaac Hayes music starts playing)
