i tried for a few hours to get my eevees to evolve into espeon and umbreon and i couldnt...i gave them haircuts, let them hold leftovers, healed after everybattle and nothing. then i gave each one of them a rare candy just as a last resort and they evolved...coincidence? if only i had 1 more for my chansey to evolve into blissey...

Rare candies don't increase happiness in and of themselves, but gaining a level does. Each level gives between 2 and 5 happiness points. You start at 70 and need 218 to evolve.
