It's the "special edition" Pokémon G/S with new enhancements, etc, but nothing that really alters the core game (though it changes more than Yellow did.) It also works with an adapter for the GBC that allows you to play over a celluar connection.

Also, according to EGM Pokemon Crystal is coming out in 2001 in the US. But without the adapter.

Let me rephrase that, NOA is more likely not bring the
adapter because of the amount of cell phones in Japan. Compared to the amount of cell phones in US. Still NOA is considering using telephone lines instead.

I kind of guessed NoA would do that. I think it would be a lot easier to use the Gamecube and GBA instead of the cell phone adaptor (which is probably what NoA is going to do).

Oh, Crystal also has some (limited) Pokemon animations. It's nothing to write home about, but it's still something that seperates it from G/S

I severely doubt it... thought there have been rumors that you start out with Mereep (the electric sheep)... But they are only rumors, so should not be taken as the truth!!! But I wouldn't mind it if they were true....

Well, as mentioned before, you can choose between a male and female trainer. And as I said, the Pokemon have limited animations. For example, the fiery quils on Cyndaquil's back will be animated to look more like real flame. At this time there's not much to report on how different Crystal is to G/S. We'll just have to wait until December when it comes out in Japan.

Another unique thing is that through an internet connection (via cell phone or phone line) you can download special "colored eggs" You know the colored pokes you can catch in g/s, well you can hatch 'em now(though knowing Nintendo the 1st one will be a pichu

)
