Im not sure where I heard this but is there supposed to be a new numbering option for G/S?

Where #001 is Chikorita

and all the new evos for r/b/y pokemon are placed in their correct order.

If this is true anyone know how the numbers go?

There will be an option to display the new Pokémon under a new numbering system as you described. Of course, since that word is "option" and not "some Nintendo-hired muscle with a baseball bat forcing you to do things the new way," you'll also have the option of displaying Pokémon under the original system, where Chikorita would be #152.

I meant the numbers for the list where Chikorita is #001

I haven't seen anything, yet. I know Nintendo Power has published a few of the new numbers, but I can't recall any of them right now.

In the Japanese versions, using the new system changes the order they're listed in, but the numbers are all the same. I doubt it will be different in the English games.

Chikorita is never listed as #001. The default setting that the Pokedex is on when you first get it has Chikorita as the first entry, but the number is still #152. IIRC, there is also an option to list them in alphabetical order, order of evolution (including G/S evolutions and pre-evolutions), and the normal numerical order. None of the numbers have been changed (what would be the point of changing them anyway?).

As Gail Tilden said (and I'm willing to believe her), the English G/S is more or less just text translation. The only difference I've seen so far is the status screen.

In the original, the status screen was vertical. The Pokemon's picture was on the left, and most of the stats would be on the right. In the English version, the status screen is horizontal. The picture is on the top, most of the stats on the bottom.

According to nintendo power (which is bad for strategies but good for update info), they're actually changing around a few numbers. Scyther seems to no longer be 123, Lugia and Houou go back one or two numbers, etc. etc.

According to Nintendo Power, the box trick is accomplished by running out of PP and then healing your Pokemon at the Centre... >:-)

Again, good for updates, bad for strategic usage.

But there's no logical reason why Nintendo would change the numbers. It's not like people everywhere are going to die of confusion just because Pichu's number is higher than it's decendant, or because Chikorita is #152. I doubt that Nintendo would benefit in any way from a number change, no matter how small it is.
