Breaking news from Nintendo Power!Compliments of Bulbagarden, the on we all know and umm, err, respect.
New names for G/S:

People:
Hayato(1st Gym Leader)= Falkner
Prof. Utsugi= Prof. Elm

Places:
Wakaba Town= New Bark Town
Yoshino City= Cherrygrove City
Kikyou City= Violet City
Bellsprout Tower= Sprout Tower

Items:
Squirtle Water= Squirtbottle

Pokemon:
(these are now official names)
Guraigaa = Gligar
Hanekko= Hopip
Hassamu= Scizor

And if you didn't already know, Pokemon Crystal is coming out. Supposedly you can choose to be a male or female trainer. You can use a new Cell phone adapter thingy to trade and battle. And it will be compatible with Pokemon Stadium G/S(what about Pokemon Pikachu Color?)

All in all sounds cool.... I still hate those names for G/S, they sound so uncreative(unlike the first ones, like Scyther and such) Well, that is all for now... *can hardly wait till G/S comes out*

Heh, I can't wait for G/S as well...although I'm still gonna call Burakki Burakki because I think that the name of "Umbreon" sucks...Blackeon I would've been acceptable, but you can't win'em all.

Heh, Crystal looks cool...I might actually import that...unlike G/S which I said I wouldn't, but broke down and did anyway...

Why can I picture a future battle a tour stop going like this:

Me: *sends out Hassamu, kid sends out, um, Burakki*

Kid: OOOOOOOH! A SKI-SOAR! UMBEEOWN RETURN! GO HOUNDBROOM!

Me: *gets bad feeling, Hassamu DTs*

Kid: *Hellgar Fire Blasts, hits, maybe, who cares for this demonstration*

Me: *DTs*

Rinse, repeat, Hassamu making up to six DTs, then SDing up, then Continual Cuts/Steel Wings his entire team into the ground

Kid: YOU CHEATER! SKI-SOAR CAN'T BEAT HOUNDBROOM, UMBREEOWN, AND STEAL-LICKS BYE ITSELF! *cries*

Heh, a whole round a trouble is coming...

Yeah, would've been nice for them to stoop to Digimon's creativity level. Anyone know where the name "Umbreon" comes from? I know ESPeon comes from ESP (Extra-Sensory Perception).

I looked this up a while back.

Umbreon stems from the word, "umbra." An umbra is

1. The completely shaded area where all of the direct light from a luminous body is cut off, as in an eclipse of the sun or moon.

2. the dark inner part (nucleus) of a sunspot

3. obsolete shade; shadow

Cool. Eat that, Devimon!

I thought Umbreon's name came from the word 'umbrage', meaning 'to take offence' or something like that.

::shrugs:: Who knows what the programmers were thinking when they came up with the name? Personally I think White Cat's guess makes much more sense.

No, you're all wrong. They put all of the letters together in a hat, and drew them out at random to come up with a name.

I think Umbreon is a damn good name, honestly. I'll still call it Burakki, but whatever. "Blackeon" would be pretty gay. Seriously, think about it. It's just a color. An umbra is a shadow (props to PikachuThunder: I thought everyone knew that by now, and I always appreciate a good dictionary definition ), but more of a reference to a place where light simply does not want to be- perfect for evil eevee.

I agree that Burakki sounds cooler, even if it was just a mispronounced version of "Blacky" (a valid dog name, methinks), but I can't say I view "Blackeon" as very original...

Sorry if I offended... I agree that the net of the names are somewhat uncreative. I'll give them a couple months before I decide whether I think they are gay or not.

Whoops!! Sorry PT! You orginally posted that not White Cat. My mistake White Cat quoted what you said, and I just happened to misread it and gave credit to the wrong person. Sorry 'bout that!
