Mine was Charmander!

Bulbasaur! Mainly because the guide recommended it!

Mine was my beloved Charizard who of course was a charmander back then.

I picked Squirtle, mainly because a friend of mine had a Venusaur and I wanted a challenge when fighting him (I never used Blastoise much in that battle).

I enjoy picking Charmander. It forces you to make a team early one. Most newbies will just rush in with Bulbasaur/Squirtle, fight Brock, and Vine Whip/Bubble his ass. Charmander forces you to actually use other Pokemon, because there's no way Charmander can take down both by itself (assuming your level is equal or lower to Brock's Pokemon).

my starter for my most recent game was scyther(gameshark, if you didnt know) but I use squirtle, you can get your first grass pokemon by cerulean city, just when he becomes useful, you get a chance at the first non starter firepokemon at celadon when you first need him, but it is not until much later when you get a viable water type other than squirtle.

Well, I can do it with a lvl 15 Charmander, that's only one lvl higher than Onix.

Yes, but I play by the rule that I NEVER EVER fight a Gym Leader if my levels are higher than it. EVER.

My very first starting Pokemon was bulbasaur, and I have never regretted choosing it. Its evolved form, venusaur, is strong in my opinion. My venusaur will always be my favorite pokemon, because it introduced me to the pokemon Game Boy battle experience.

I think charmander is a great choice too. Squirtle just isn't for me.

In Red, it's always been Charmander... I'll probably use Cyndaquil when G/S comes out. In Blue, it's Bulbasaur, mostly because I got sick of starting with Charmander.

I started with Charmander on red
and Squirtle on blue.
I beat the Grass gym and the elite
four with Blastoise by him self.
To beat the grass gym I used Ice-beam
to woop there but. Then to beat
the elite I used Body slam/Earthquake/Blizzard/Surf
(Yes. I did use some potions and 2 ethers.
I pp uped Blizzard!!

I beat the elite four with a Charizard: Flamethrower, Slash, Ember, Fire Spin. I didn't use any TM's b/c I was saving them for my real team.

Bah! I took 'em both down with a level 11 Charmander.

Well, I knew that the little brat (Scyther893748) was going to be picking Blastoise, so I was like, "How can I humiliate his sorry ass in evey way possible? I know! I'll get that Pokemon weak to his and pound him."

2 weeks later...

Fag: "How'd Blastoise lose??? Skull Bash takes out all those Rattatas, and it should hurt you more because you're a fire type."

Me: "I don't think you're cut out for this game..."

Even before I heard him below out "Peeeenisooore" in super smash, I knew the Bulba line was for me. I was tempted by Charmander (I like draconic things), but after learning that the first two bosses were weak to grass, and that grass gets status mods (I was hoping they would be strong, and would take emphasis away from a "slugfest" mentality), and because I tend to like controlling plants in video games whenever possible, it was all about Bulba.

That Venusaur looks stoned in Stadium only adds to the thrill.

Sadly, some monkey thought that adding poison to my plant would make it cool, despite the fact that I think the only Poison move it gets is Poison powder. While it does make him able to crush all grass types except Exeggutor (Otherwise the others would actually be able to attack for three quarters damage while Bulba gets normal damage, which some of them might be able to get around with different stats), poison flat out sucks.

Oh well.

I also wanted to be able to establish a foothold in the game and start training a variety of monsters as quickly as possible, and getting stuck on Brock wasn't my idea fun (I didn't realize that the AI was "Select move at random" before I bought the game).

I went with Chikorita for Silver: I just like the grass type by now. I'll probably pick the fiery one on my US copy... or just shark myself a burakki again.

For eevee lovers, I suggest sharking one up as a starting monster. It is a bit of a challenge, but it is rather comperable to the other starters, and its evolutions are actually tournament quality.

i remember my first game... i picked charmander, cause he is pretty cool lookin, and i remember catchin a rattata and pidgey and trainin them up.... then i remember the charizard.... hehe my charizard was the maximum controll level for each badge.... cause i just liked usein him, and i remember when i started to train people for the elite four, i had a charizard Lv.90, electrode Lv.50, Seadra Lv.34, caterpie Lv.50, and two others that i cant remember, but i had a pretty scrappy team..

and i do remember killing lances dragonite with a seadra that had watergun, smokescreen, ice beam, and i think tackle or somethin gay... and i killed garys blastoise with it too... then i remember nameing the seadra "MAgIk" and raisein him to lv 100 and then realizeing that he sucks ass and threw him in the box :Ţ

Who keeps pushing B every level to keep a Caterpie a Caterpie all the way to L50 anyway? o_O

One of these days, they'll get wise and make triple-type pokemon, such as:

Dragon/Fire/Flying (Charizard)
Bug/Poison/Flying (Beedrill, Venomoth)
Fire/Water/Electric (Delteon, an Eevee evolved with all three stones... okay so he's not official yet, but...)
