The punk kept telling me that i wouldn't be so lucky next time. We fight again tomorrow because he said he didn't have his real team with him. ------------------ Newbies are the greatest!!:D

I just had to revive this topic, I saw the worst team I'd ever laid eyes on yesterday...Some kid brought his Game Boy with Pokémon Yellow to a potluck dinner, and I watched him battle the Elite Four. This was his team: Mewtwo(L71) Swift Psychic Strength Recover Clefable(L95) Bubblebeam Strength Psywave Strength Kingler(L34) Cut Surf Strength Vicegrip Vileplume(L50-something) Solarbeam Cut Petal Dance Acid Pikachu(L64) Thunder Agility Slam Flash Zapdos(forgot Level) Thundershock Fly Agility Drill Peck All his PKMN but 'Fable and M2 were dead by the time he got past Lorelei and Bruno, and he somehow managed to get by Agatha , Lance, and one of Gary's PKMN with Mewtwo. Mewtwo was out of attacks by then, so he sent out Clefable and "showed Gary who's the real Pokémon Master!" And he still didn't have Articuno or the 3 vending-machine TMs. He kept talkimg on and on about how his team was invincible, never been beaten, Thunder was the best Electric attack, Psywave and Strength and Agility are awesome, blah blah blah... ------------------ "I know what you want for your birthday...a Nintendo Playstation!"

I have a "Versus Books Perfect Guide," and this is one of their teams and comments:1. Mewtwo There's just no topping Mewtwo. They come out of the box at level 70 with the powerful PSYCHIC attack, the BARRIER technique to protect them from non-Special attacks, and RECOVER to refill their HP if they ever get low. Best of all, they're only weak to Bug, and there are too few Bug-types to pose much of a threat to them. But just in case, it's a good idea to fill in the fourth slot with a versatile, potentially Bug-crushing non-Special attack, like MEGA KICK. 2. Jolteon As we mentioned earlier, too many of the best Pokemon fly. And a strong Electric-type can send Gyarados, Dragonite, Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno crashing to the ground within an hour or two of their appearances. Only Aerodactyl (an alternate in my team) can last more than a few turns. 3. Arcanine Fire-types aren' the greatest, since the things they're good against (Grass, Bug, and Ice) are unlikely to appear too often. But they can protect your Mewtwo from Tangelas and Parasects, and as a strong, all-around great fighter, Arcanine has a good shot at defeating (or seriously damaging) Normal, Fighting, and Electric-types. 4. Parasect Almost everyone uses Mewtwo, and that's the one and only reason Parasect made this team. It's not an easy fight, but if you play it right, he does have the advantage. Put Mewtwo to sleep with SPORE, use a bunch of GROWTHs while he's dozing, and then finish him with Bug-type LEECH LIFEs. And if it worked well, a Parasect that lasted long enough to cast five or six GROWTHs can pretty much finish whatever else your opponent has on his bench. 5. Cloyster Tough on Defense and great against Fire-types and Flyers, Cloyster is a second line of defense against flying Dragons and another good-all-around fighter to fill out your roster. 6. Hitmonlee He won't last long in battle, but if your opponent is playing Normal-types like Tauros or Rock/Ground Rhydons and Golems, Hitmonlee is your man. Can anyone say IDIOTS??? ------------------ "Normally, the earliest you can catch Mewtwo is 70. (Might be earlier on some carts)" - MewtwoSama, on Mewtwo's before-level-70 moves

Well, first let me say this. When I was a frikken Nu-Be ( ), I put inaccurate attacks on my Pokemon and thought that Rare Candys ruled. Then I started to figure out STAT EXP and such. I remember fighting this kid who had 3 Mews on his team. (Infact his Trainer name was MEW). Anywho, I just took M2 off of my team, and replaced it with Alakazam, my third Pokemon ever to be hand raised. I took all of his Mews out w/ a few Psychics. He kept using *Shudder* Tackle!?!? He also used Metronome a few times, too. After kicking his ass, he told me that I was an awesome trainer, and that he had to stop raising his Pokemon by Rare Candys. Also, just a few days ago, some kid said that you can get Mew by doing the "trcuk Trick". Well, I flew to the SS Anne and let him see what happened once I tried to use strength to move the truck. NOTHING! He then stated "Well, you must have all of the legendary birds, a Nidogod PsyBird, and missingno in your party when you try and do the trick. I walked off laughing my ass off! Later, the kid came back and told me to look at his GB. He had Mew... He told me that he moved the truck...and picked Mew up. I rolled my eyes, and sat down. When the kid stood up, a Gameshark fell out of his pocket, w/ the code to get Mew in R/B....0115D8CF (Yeah, I know it by heart!) The kid changed the subject REALLY fast, and started talking about getting Pokegods in Gold/Silver. He said that Togetic evovles into TogeGod. He said "You must make Togetic super-duber happy, and he'll evolve into TogeGod!" Man...that guy was FULL of BS! I told him that he must be a good trainer if he caught TogeGod. (I was humoring him...) He had to leave...so, thats all he told me. LOLOLOLOLOL!!! ------------------ Pokemon Gold/Silver Gameshark Codes (For all your Gamesharking needs) Coming Soon The Poke Breeders

Versus Books's second team:1. Electrode Some people laughed at first, but an Electrode that's learned THUNDERBOLT and THUNDER from TMs can handle Flyers and Water-types almost as well as Jolteon. And not only is he faster, but when he gets low on HP (which won't take long) he can EXPLODE and take your opponent's strongest Pokemon down with him. 2. Blastoise We all agree that Squirtle is the best starter, and with strong numbers in all the important stats, and a bunch of powerful Water-type skills, he's a contender in this environment as well. Just keep him away from the Electric stuff. 3. Ninetales Better than Arcanine? It's controversial, but Taylor preferred Ninetales's lightning speed. CONFUSE RAY is also a great technique, forcing even Pokemon with an advantage over Fire-types to risk damaging themselves or switch out and give Ninetales a free attack. 4. Tangela Another topic of much debate: Who's best against Mewtwo? Taylor likes Tangela, a straight Grass-type who has no real advantage over Psychic attacks, but can use more powerful skills like MEGA DRAIN, and is also good against Electric. The Mewtwo battle is similar: Paralyze him with SLEEP POWDER (which is inferior to Parasect's SPORE), GROWTH him up, and go for the kill with MEGA DRAIN. 5. Starmie Another Psychic is always nice, and Starmie can do a lot of Mewtwo's tricks itself. Recover comes at a fairly low level, and it can learn Psychic from TM 29. Add in a high Special and some damage-dealing Water attacks, and Starmie ain't bad. 6. Mewtwo And then, of course, there's Mewtwo. Very newbie-ish. ------------------ "Normally, the earliest you can catch Mewtwo is 70. (Might be earlier on some carts)" - MewtwoSama, on Mewtwo's before-level-70 moves

The final team in Vs. Books was their team intended to lose. It had Metapod, Kakuna, Magikarp, Ditto, Weedle (I think), and not Caterpie, but... Chansey. That's right, they thought that Chansey was weaker than Caterpie. Here's what I remember of what they said:"Chansey has a lot of HP, but its Defense is so low that any attack will wipe it off the map." And yes, they DID know the difference between Attack/Defense and Special. "... Teach it a powerful physical attack like Take Down, then laugh maniacally as it fails to do more than a single point of damage to the opponent." It said that "Ditto may sadly be the strongest fighter in this team." BTW, this guide may have started the "Dual-types get less STAB/Normals get no STAB" rumor. NOTE: I only revived this topic so a link to it in another post wouldn't be lost. And we all like posts about newbies

Actually, I'm pretty sure that team contained an Abra with Teleport...

Don't even make me bring up the stat inconsistencies in the Vs. Books guide. Jolteon's HP at 290, yet Flareon only gets a 250? Seadra's speed at 280??????? In the S2 guide, they put Abra's HP at 100...o_O.

Expect their favorites to be stronger. They obviously don't know about max stats (or SE or DV's, for that matter) so they used the ones they actually trained for their stats, but they Rare Candied the others. And, someone apparently used a Jolteon in their team. So, Jolteon benefits from Stat Experience, but Flareon, not used, doesn't. (And yes, they do know about Missingno. and the Rare Candies trick, they mentioned it in their guide.)

That still doesn't explain Seadra's 280 Speed in the RBY guide (maximum, which I'm sure he's never achieved, is 268) or Abra's 100 HP in the S2 guide (IIRC, minimum is 160.)

In that case, maybe they just tried to estimate it... *Has no idea how they got such bad estimates* P.S. From the Pokemon 2001 Calendar: Pokemon Stadium One-on-one. Head-to-head. Who would win a face-off? (Assume both Pokemon have the same amount of experience.) Graveler VS. Seel Answer: Graveler. It's good in matches against Ice Types.

Sorry to post here again, but there is another newbie experience I've had. It was my cousin, claiming that his RBY Pikachu had a special of 352. Can you say n00b?

More "Stadium" 1-on-1's, all direct quotes:Charizard vs. Scyther: Scyther. Although both are Flying Pokemon, Scyther is a Bug Type and Charizard is a Fire Type. Fire Pokemon have an advantage over Bug Pokemon in competition. Gyarados vs. Dragonite: Dragonite. Gyarados has a Water Type's weakness against Dragon Pokemon. Omanyte vs. Porygon: Omanyte. Porygon has a Normal Type's weakness against Rock Types. And my personal favorite other than Seel and Graveler: Koffing vs. Kangaskhan: This is a close one. But Koffing has a disadvantage against Poison types, making Kangaskhan the probable winner.

Here's one that should stand for a LONG time.My brother was playing me in Little Cup. I led off with my usual Chansey, while he started with Gastly. "Ghosts are immune to Normal attacks, you know." XD. That Chansey had Softboiled, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Psychic. Who's laughing now? Oh wait, I have to cover it up so he doesn't get suspicious. Anyway, first turn commands are chosen. Knowing that Chansey has low Defense (and trying to caution me about that low stat) he decides to go for STAB...WITH SHADOW BALL!!!! "It doesn't affect CHANSEY!" At this point I couldn't help but laugh. He follows with the n00biest quote I've ever heard (feel free to use this in a sig): "Do you mean it's BAD to Shadow Ball a Chansey?" The rest speaks for itself.

At my little cousins birthday party there was this 4 year old kid who kept boasting that his Totodile was unbeatable because it could slice every pokemon in half with cut.=P After telling him the level of our pokes, he told us that his Totodile was at level 152. We told him you need to use the gameshark or do the missingno trick to get pokemon at that level. Then he tells us he did the missingno trick to get his Totodile. Then we tell him that there is no missingno trick in Gold and Silver. I don't think he could have used the gameshark, 'cause he can't read yet.
