What experiences have you had with newbies?
Have they, for instance, boasted about how great their Mewtwo/Pikachu is, and after you've beaten them, accused you of cheating?
Post your stories here so we can have a laugh at their expenses!

Psychic
Pay Day
Metronome
Tri Attack

He kept on trying Metronome, and got moves like growl, Splash, and at the end, explosion.

Well, there was the kid that complained about me being "cheap" and using Recover on Alakazam... And this guy was using MewTwo (no Recover though). He also put Hyper Beam on EVERY Pokémon in his team...

My cousin rare candies all his pokes plus he has a really krappy Mewtwo moveset:
Megapunch
Psychic
Metronome
Recover

I gave him advice on box tricking, so hopefully his pokes will be stronger by the time I fight 'em.
I can't wait to whup his ass in August.

I'll probably post the battle log.

Hehe, a long time ago, when I didn't know anything, and Pokemon was out for 4 months, I had my first Mewtwo. I was too lazy to train it, and I just got ahold of a Game Genie for 7 bucks. I made a deal with StarCaliber that if I gave him a Mew, he would train my Mewtwo to level 100, and I wanted him to give him this moveset:

Psychic
Swift
Recover
(Can't remember. Blizzard or Mega Punch I think.)

Lol.

One of my friends has a Mewtwo with Metronome.
My Tobybro was about to destroy it when it used Metronome. Guess what move came up?
Spore.
Then it was all to easy for him to switch out to Arbok and Fissure poor Toby

My cousin kept Tackle over Sleep Powder on his Venusaur. He also taught Tri Attack to his Abra, and refused to use Surf on his Blastoise because he said it was a bad attack.
And all three of my Pikabrat cousins believe in codes for Pokegods, how to kill your mom, Bill's Garden, etc.

I used to do this. I had a thing for "straight Pokemon"--single typed Pokemon with four attacks of their type. I had two of these: a Ninetales with Ember, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, and Fire Spin; and an Electabuzz with Thundershock, Thunderbolt, Thunderpunch, and Thunder. Both were at level 100. Needless to say, I saw the error of my ways.

Well, I was at the League '99 tour last year, and I was with a friend. A little kid walked up to us and asked if we had Mew. We said yes, and told him how we got it. We then asked him how he got his, and he said he pushed the truck. We told him it was impossible, and he replied with this statement:

"No, it isn't. Not with Nidogod!"

We then proceeded to ask him about Nidogod, knowing that he was lying. He said he'd show us, but then he walked off, never to be seen again.

Now if that isn't a newbie experience, I don't know what is!

Most of my friends around here arn't exactly newbie - but they don't understand the technical dtails about it - take my friends prize Mewtwo which he kicks virtually everyone's head in with...

Smudge: Lv 76 Mewtwo
Hyper beam
Recover
Swift
Psychic

...most people around here get totally thrashed by that moveset until he met...

Sparky: Lv 66 Seadra
Surf
Double team
Rest
Toxic

...where he had the embarrasment of my 10 level lower team thrash his sorry ass... in fact - the nemesis of his team came in the form of:

Big momma: Lv 62 Chansey
Seismic toss
Minimise
Rest
Defence curl

...Who totally thrashed the 7 shades out of him...

...In fact the only real loss I took was that he froze my Tobybro on it's first turn with his Articuno...

He asks: "Do you have any Pokegods?"

We grin at each other.

Mewtwosama says: "I have a Pikablu."

Avalanche, in sync, says: "I have a Rainer."

Following suit, I say: "I have a Charcolt."

The kid gives us this really weird look, like he's gonna cry or something then says solumnly, "Thanks for mocking me." and walks away.

We crack up laughing. THAT was classic...

Hey, I said Pikablu! Give ME a little credit! =P

Anyway, at the Queen Mary, I challenged this one kid. He said he didn't want to fight, but kept rubbing it in how his Charizard and Blastoise could beat me. Finally, I convinced him to fight me. His first pokemon?

Charizard, L48.

I just have to laugh here. I kill it, and you know what's next?

Blastoise, L53.

Hahaha. I end up beating his team (which included a sharked Mewtwo at L51), and he accuses me of cheating. I ask, "How did I cheat?"

He says, "Because you used levels over the max!"

"Um, 100 isn't over the max."

"Yes it is. Look over there at the prime cup--now, that's the highest one, right? It says for level 70 pokemon!"

"Level 70 and OVER."

"That's because some people cheat like you. It makes sense, because level 70 is when you catch Mewtwo!"

"Oh really? I thought you caught Mewtwo at level 51!"

The kid then walks away, looking like he's gonna cry. =P I think get out of there as fast as I can, in case he decides to go get his mom.

Oh! Oh! I have another one. I was standing in line for an advanced screening of Pokémon the Movie 2000, and I was looking for kids to battle. I found this one kid who had the Blue Version, so I challenged him to a match. He then saw that I had the Yellow Version and said, "No. I only battle Blue with Blue." What the hell? So I told him that all versions are equally compatible, and he still refused. Maybe he was just affraid that I'd kick his @$$?

MY Newbie experiance:
I went to a Nintendo tornement, and was scared I'd get killed since all my pokemon were on L.80-90 (I had just restarted my game, no time to train to L.100). I went into the Prime cup place, and face a guy with: Mewtwo, Hitmonchan, ?????. My Mewtwo (yes, I used him back then) destroyed his team despite the 20 level differance, this guy has soooooooooooooooooo obvisiously given his team rare candies. So he goes away, giving me a look that almost said "You cheated." Anyways, an asian kid came along, and my mom (she was watching) was scared I'd lose. The pokemon I used? Mewtwo, Hitmonchan, and Pidgeot. So it's Mewtwo vs Mewtwo, I swift, and he's down to 60% health or so..AND I WENT FIRST!?! Rare candied, obviously. He Mega-punches, we repeat, I kill without getting lower than 2/3 health, despite the 20 level differance. Out comes...Ditto? I change to Hitmonchan, he transforms, I kill with Ice Punches (but I could've changed to Mewtwo...). His last pokemon? A dragonite, and I think this one may have actually been trained to L.50 before rare canding. I change to Mewtwo, and he wraps! Misses, I kill with one CH psychic. What a newbie! I wasn't exactly a skilled trainer myself, but I at least TRAINED them to L.80! Man, 20 level differance, and I win with no killed pokemon!

Just today i went to this "Tourney" at Canada's Wonderland. First off, the Canadian reps are no reps at all. They only cater to Mini-games, rock harden and rattata run their specialty.

So i stuck around anyway hoping to get to play someone challenging. This guy appears with a red and yellow cartridge and we plug in. First it was going to be a anything goes, then as im selecting, he says that we should only take 3. Suspecting this is a ploy to know exactly which pkmn i'll be using, i still let it pass. Picking Tobybro, Stadium Jolteon and Bennedict, he picks out not one but 2 Mewtwos and "Mewtwo's non-evolved form" Mew. So his plan was actually to be able to use more than one Mewtwo, which you can't in Prime. So out comes Mewtwo, I immediatly notice that it is rare candied. Tobybro is out and just wipes the floor with them.

The movesets?

M2#1
Psychic
Barrier
Swift
Reover

M2#2
Same as above but Hyperbeam replaces swift

Mew
Psychic
Softboiled
MegaPunch
Hyperbeam

He takes the loss in stride and i ask to see some of his other pokemon. His boxes are full of L100s rare candied if the fight was any indication. Then when i look at some of the movesets, im just shocked.

Moltres FSpin,Peck ,Sky attack ,Fly
Alakazam teleport, psybeam, psychic, recover
Sandslash Earthquake, Poison sting, Fury swipes...
Wait now that i think about it that wasn;t poor training, that was just laziness from the rare candying.

But anyway, i set him straigh with Mew's evolution, and taught him a more proper moveset formula, and that there are other pokemon besides the mews

And the way to classify if someone really enjoys pokemon or just likes the show/cards and thinks they are all that, is if they say Po-KEE-Man or Po-Kay-Mon

It'd kill it in one shot:-)

I overlook some kid fighting Lance. Lance, of course, sends out Gyarados. What does the kid send out?

Dugtrio.

He then proceeds to try and Earthquake Gyarados, not realizing that it NEVER works (because he tried to do it a few times).

Another one would be this kid who was told by his friends that if he beat the Elite Four more than once, his game would be erased.

And although this isn't quite "newbie" it's really, really stupid.

Me and my friend were on the train talking about Pokemon. This guy next to us says, "You like Pokemon?"
My friend says, "Yes, but only the Japanese version (in regard to the anime)."
The guy responds with, "Wait, there's JAPANESE Pokemon?"

I felt like jumping out of the train right then and there.

my friend, the only person i can battle, always trains one pokemon only, and it used to really piss me off. this time he sent out a level 40 pidgeot.(it was early in the game[we both restarted our games at the same time so it would be fair] so at that time lv 40 was pretty high. i spent a lot of my time training with staidiums doduo mode(to lazy to get dodrio) and i had about 7 pokemon trained to lv 30. he was like"dude, your dead" i beat his entire team with my lv22 pikachu, with a little luck of thinderwave and dt. he was shocked an i laughed my ass off at the fact that the rest of his pokemon wern't ever up to level 20.
side note-his last pokemon was a lv 7 mankey!!
what an idiot, he aslo thinks DT sucks and sand attack is awesome, him obvioulsy not realizing how similar they are.

Once at a tournament, I was versing this little kid for a Cascade Badge. I remember that he had a Mewtwo and a Venusaur, but I can't remember what the third poke was. I beat all 3 of his Pokemon with Meowmix, my current Mewtwo then (yes, I used mewtwo). If I remember right, Meowmix knew Blizzard, Double Team, Recover, and either Psychic or Thunderbolt. No one used Double Team or Swift-Dancers back then so I didn't even need Amnesia. Anyway, I Double Teamed to the max and took out his Mewtwo and something else. He sends out his Venusaur and says something like "Get ready to lose!" He hits me with a solarbeam that take away like an eight of my HP and then I kill it. At that tourney I won with only my Mewtwo. Newbies never learn...

I once saw this site where it said Golem was pure Rock, Snorlax was Water, Dragonair was Dragon/Water, and other complete idiotic stuff like that. Then, with shock, I realized that it was the site I had put up a few years ago, in my mega-newbie state. LOL!

My newbie experience? At the Stadium Tour in Chicagoland, I met an Asian kid in line who had a level 100 Squirtle, complete w/Rare Candies and boosters...and NO box tricking. He claimed that it'd evolve if he gave it more experience. He also played his Rare Candied, level 100 Mewtwo against my homegrown level 94...and I won.

I've since coined a new phrase, which I utter with contempt to guys like him.

"You rare candy @$$..."

I use the term "sugar rush evolution" to refer to rare candied Pokémon.

Haha! Nice phrase.
"Sugar Rush Evolution"

Anyway, I met up with this kid who thinks Bubblebeam is the best thing since ice cream. I told him Surf was more worthwhile and advantageous, but he kept talking on and on on how he beats Onixes and Golems in one hit with Bubblebeam.

He totally freaked out when I told him I had a Mew. He kept asking me where I caught it, I just told him "Gameshark."
He still didn't believe me.

I remember back in the first wieek of PKMN... I was one of the top trainers in my group of friends and one day, Starcaliber decides to battle me. He brings out the first Mew2 I ever saw and I thought, "Oh ####!" Out goes my level 100 Alakazam and gives beat-down to his Lv. 73 Mew2 by using psychic ^_^
