Another report, even suckier than the Raisio one.

So I wake up at 8 o'clock, eat some breakfast and then head for the railway station. I take the train, and read some philosophy while en route to Helsinki.

I arrive there and take the local train to the Valimo station (Valimo = a mint). I head for Agerex Oy, the Nintendo importer. There I IRC for some time and organize my pokémon. Of course, I COULD have played some GameCube, but I didn't feel like it :P

Then it's the time to leave. I and Kaj go and pick up Tony, Kaj's brother. And then it's the time to head for the shopping centre in Espoo, named "The Big Apple". w00t. It's about a half an hour drive away, but we need some time trying to find where we could get the stuff in

Finally we get some directions, and begin unloading our things. Move it! So we find our place. It's a little, empty stage. Half an hour later, it's not empty at all. It has Pokémon Stadiums, Stadium 2's available for testing, some chairs for the players, speakers... And of course, the necessary flapboard (Or what you want to call it :P) for the records.

Dammit, Tony wanted to do the commentating for the matches - so I don't remember them. It was straight R/B/Y though, and one guy used Ice Punch Alakazam. So I went and reseted the game and said "You use that Ice Punch again, and you'll be disqualified". He didn't use it

Miraculously, a girl was in the finals

Heli (The girl) vs. Mikko Ollinketo (The boy :P).

Arh... I don't even remember their exact teams. I'll try, anyway.

Heli chose Blastoise, Alakazam and Nidoqueen... Mikko used Alakazam, Zapdos and... Rhydon? Not sure.

Mikko had THUNDER on his Zapdos n00b. Well, the same could be said about Heli, who used Psybeam on Alakazam and didn't have any of Sub/ST/Thunder wave on it. I don't know if she had even Reflect.

Nevertheless, Mikko won.

I challenged him. I used Eggy, Tauros (The only Tauros in the championships this far!) and Rhydon, Mikko used Venusaur, Alakazam and Charizard.

I began with Eggy, he with Venusaur.

Venusaur used Sweepy Powder. It hit.
Eggy is asleep...
Venusaur used Double-edge, CH.
Eggy is asleep. At this point, I decided to change.
*Eggy in, Rhydon out*
Double-Edge didn't hurt Rhy much. Expecting a Razor Leaf, I change back to Eggy.
VENUSAUR used RAZOR LEAF!
It's not very effective
I knew he was going to D-E, so I change to Tauros.
VENUSAUR used DOUBLE-EDGE! Some damage.
I could have used EQ, but as it wouldn't have done much damage, I decided to begin some horny drillin' action!

Horn Drill, miss.
Venusaur used Razor Leaf. CH. Tauros has a little less than half of it's HP left.
Horn Drill, miss.
VENUSAUR took in sunlight! Uh oh, I thought. Change to Eggy.
Eggy took the S-Beam nicely. I knew something evil was coming, so I change back to Tauros.
DE, the next Razor Leaf WILL KO Tauros.
Tauros used Horn Drill. "It's a one-hit KO!" At this point, I was like, "Woohooo".

He sends out Alakazam. I changed to Eggy, who has something like 70 HP left. I Stun Spore. MISS. He Psychics. 30 HP left. I Stun Spore. MISS! He Psychics. 2 HP left. I Stun Spore. MISS! Then he was like, "You'll lose this". So he Psychiced my Eggy dead.

2-1 for him. Me: "Dammit, looks bad for me..."

I send out Rhydon, my last pokémon. Rhydon vs. Alakazam and some unknown poké.

Alakazam used Psychic! *Rhydon has about 45% of it's health left*

So I say, "By the way, I'll get a Critical hit and KO your Kazam." "Ahh, no way, you're going to lose this, pal..."

RHYDON used EARTHQUAKE! Me: CRITICAL HIT! CRI-TI-CAL HIT! He: IT'S NOT! IT'S NOT!
CRITICAL HIT! ALAKAZAM fainted! Me: WOOHOOO!

1-1. I might win this.

He sends out his last pokémon. Charizard. But it's faster, and I don't have much HP left. Now comes the best part.

He: "Ha! My Charizard knows Earthquake!"
Me: "Maybe it won't be enough to KO Rhydon."
He: "Hmm, it might be so. But it knows also DIG! You lost, man."

I'm thinking, "No, he can't be so stupid to use Dig... No, maybe he is." And so it begins...

CHARIZARD dug a hole! And again, he says: "Sorry, I just won this match." And I reply, "No... You just sealed your own defeat."
RHYDON used SUBSTITUTE! BWAHAHAHAH!! Then he and his friend is like, "Eh, what's that going to help?" Then the Mikko guy remembers, "Damn".

So...

CHARIZARD used DIG!
Critical hit!
RHYDON's substitute was b0rked!
RHYDON used ROCK SLIDE! It hit, Charizard's HP meter starts falling, falling, falling... 50%, 25%, 10%, 5%, 1%, 0 HP LEFT!

Azure wins everything

By the way, how in the HELL you remember all of your matches so clearly? Like Ian, when he put up the US championships, and... Iyse, when he put up the report for the UK championships, and the like? Do you use a notebook? A videocamera? At least I haven't been able to find a "Record match" -function from Stadium.

Anyway. today it's the time for the Vantaa regionals. Let's see if I can beat the champion there

A lot of folks get a friend to write down the events of a match then they type up a full report later. Usually a small, written reminder of events will let you remember most or all of the details later. You could always tape record your own commentary to, for the national finals and all.

Great report, Noodle, I'm going to have to look up the rest of them now...

As for the best way to remember matches...when cfalcon and I battled, he started out writing everything down, but that drove me crazy, so eventually he stopped.

I kinda like trying to figure out what happened later. Certain things stick out in my mind (like Koffing missing a non-evading with Sludge for the first time ever), and some things are hard to recall (just who did Wiggly stomp out in one CH?), but I enjoy the puzzle.

If I had to do it all the time, tho, I might bring a little tape recorder with me...if I didn't think it would spook the opponent...or if I didn't like the opponent very much.

Mr. K: They aren't over. I'm just going to type some more of them...

Anyway, those 0.4% chances suck. Hate when that happens

Also... The Finnish Championship finals are this friday. 10 trainers, best of Finland (And 6 of are Pokéopistoans, which translates to Poké-academians. And Pokéopisto is my Finnish pokémon-page, a bit like Azure...)

BTW. You like Twin Peaks? That's cool. I watched it a year ago, but I got frustrated when I missed two episodes. So I didn't watch it completely. Hoping for it to air some time again.

OrientalNoodle: I watched it a year ago, but I got frustrated when I missed two episodes.

The middle of the second season kinda killed the show. I think the network was worried about it being "too weird" (which is stupid, because that was the whole appeal of the show), so a number of subplots that weren't weird at all popped up and were generally boring.

Even the one that appeared to be weird (which was about incest, among other things) turned out to not be weird.

It picked up again towards the end, tho, when they knew it was over.

Lynch's finale was maddening, but wonderful.

You don't see that kinda stuff on teevee any more.

Whenever anyone says "Twin Peaks" I confuse it with the show "Picket Fences" and think "Man those guys are morons if they like the show 'Picket Fences.' "
Sometimes I catch my mistake, other times I hold a grudge mistakingly.

Yeah, Picket Fences was an extremely watered down Twin Peaks. They tried to copy Peaks a number of times, but the only one that ever turned into anything decent was Northen Exposure, and that's because after the first season it really got an identity of its own and stopped trying to be Peaks Lite.
