There has been a lot of talk in the last year (since the Pokemon 2000 Tournament) about future Nintendo tournaments. While hopes and demands have been high there hasn't been much coming from Nintendo except for small tours or cut back tournaments. However much we might not like this it is obviously in Nintendo's best interest to not hold the kind of tournaments we would like to see held. So instead of coming up with ideas for Nintendo to implement we need to find one that we can implement. My idea is simple and so I'll state it simply. Let's organize ourselves a little, contact members nearby to us, and crash Wizards' Pokemon TCG League.
Wizards runs hundreds of TCG Leagues. Leagues are, among other places, in every Toys R Us, Books-A-Million, and Wizards of the Coast store. Obviously Wizards would never officially open a Game Boy league because there is no money in it for them (they only deal with the TCG). Likewise it would not be worth the cost for Nintendo to work with Wizards because there is no profit in it for Nintendo. Remember that with the TCG Wizards sells more cards because that is the only way for league members to get better decks. However I don't see either the stores or the Wizards people having a big problem with some Game Boy trainers gathering at the same location at the same time as the league. Hell, Wizards would probably pick up a few new TCG players.
Why do I think this might work? Well this idea eliminates many of the problems one would run into in creating an organized Game Boy league. For many (not for all, sorry) you could find a TCG League close enough that you (or your parents) could get to and would be willing to get to. The TCG League is official and the locations are all creditable stores. Thus parents could be more at ease about their kids going regularly even if they aren't playing the TCG after they get dropped off. The TCG Leagues offer regular days and times to meet that they have already found to be good days and times for the local Pokemon fan population. You may even run into a few regular TCG players who also bring their Game Boys.
Could this develop into anything big? Simply put: no. But it could get you together with other trainers and, if y'all work things out amongst yourselves, you could end up forming your own tournament/gym structure. You must keep in mind that this idea is less of a national movement and more of an after school meeting held weekly. If nothing else showing up to the TCG League regularly with a Game Boy in plain sight could attract new trainers to you after a few meetings.
To get things started I invite any and all trainers who live in or near Atlanta, GA to post here so that we might be able to find a suitable TCG League location to meet at.
Of course I welcome any input y'all have on this idea. I leave it up to y'all to implement in your own areas. Hopefully you'll find a few trainers in your area that you didn't know were there in the first place.
