Given the fun cfalcon and I had, I was thinking there should be some sort of Cup that requires you to use a prevolution or two.

I ass/u/me the same thing that happens whenever you make a Cup would happen...the best would rise to the top and for the most part, you'd just see the same guys in all the fights, like Sucky Cup competition, but the experiment would be interesting...

Would miniature versions of the usual suspects (Exeggcute, Staryu, etc.) dominate or would new guys who don't otherwise have a chance rise to the top?

I guess there could be a limitation of only one Pokemon per series for variety's sake, but maybe a tag team Haunter/Gengar combo would create new tricks.

Anyway, just an idea...and Koffing still probably wouldn't be useful, but it'd be nice to run into a Kadabra or a Poliwhirl now and then.

Maybe my Psyduck could find a playmate...

I like it. Maybe someting like only pokés with less than 350 total base stat poitns can take part. That discludes most 3rd level evos, and even some 2nd level ones.

That makes the 3 top end monsters Dragonair, Haunter and Wigglytuff.

This could be big. How do you like my few suggestions?

Hmmm...well, I think a simple cutoff like that would be just like Sucky Cup...people would work out that Omastar and Golem are pretty friggin good (relatively speaking) and just use them all the time.

But if a team were half-prevo and half-final, then they'd have to choose which of the usual suspects to pick, and try and back those guys up with complementary wimps.

Mewtwo still screws this system, but I don't want to get into that argument just yet...

How about Petit cup monsters with no level limit or something?

Why am I the only one that likes Petit cup?

I don't really think pre- and post- evo's are much of a fair match in most cases. Being allowed only one post- evo might be nice, though...

You can't mix Pre-Evolutions with Final Evolutions. People would just use the Final Evolutions and treat the Pre-Evolutions as dead weight. It's like mixing High School Football Players with NFL Players. Only the NFL Players would determine the game.

Unless you use the Pre-Evolutions for support purposes, like Hazing. But that's a rarity, isn't it?

Well, maybe to mix things up a little, how about add that you cannot have the same type twice in your Pokemon. This makes Dual Types even more risky. I'm not talking about movesets, just Pokemon types.

I don't see why not.

If each side has 3 usual suspects and 3 wimps, there's still the typical 3-on-3 slugfest for the big guys, who will take each other out. Sure, if the Last Man Standing is a fully Amnesia'd Slowbro, then the little guys probably don't stand a chance, but that also becomes part of the strategy. A suicide Hazer might become more important that a suicide Paralyzer...

Also, if a big guy leaves another big guy PAR and almost dead, maybe it's time to throw in Vulpix or Voltorb to knock off those last few HP. Or maybe it isn't.

The whole strategy shifts from what we're used to. Maybe it wouldn't work out so well, I dunno, but I think it would be a fun experiment.

What interests me is the mix of guys. If you do something like Petit Cup, then you've got a single-tiered system where the same thing that happens in Prime Cup happens all over again.

I suppose you'd have the same thing with this system, but it would be two-tiered, so at least that would double the amount of usual suspects.

Anyway, just a thought...
