Well, last weekend I went up all the way to Kitefest in the northeast part of Toronto to see what the Fall Mall Tour was like. I had my hopes, thinking that there might just be that slim chance where they actually had some real tournaments. The Pokémon Patrol at the CNE was a real bummer, and I hoped that this time, it would be much better...

Well, Kitefest was an outside event. Contrary to the event name, it wasnt in a mall. Anyway, the first thing that I saw was the Lugia cruiser. Yay! They used the exact same Pokémon Patrol van (they didnt even bother changing it), and it had the exact same games that were at the CNE.

The first thing I wanted to see was the event board... ... ... WHAT?! There isnt one?! Well, since I arrived at 11AM, maybe they would bring it out later. So I played a couple of rounds of Super Smash Bros. against this chinese person claiming to be the best. I chose my best (and favourite) character, Yoshi, and I spiked him 3 times (using foward-A in mid-air while the enemy tries to recover) out of 5 KO's for the win. He didnt even put up a fight. He said that spiking was cheap... yeah, right.

After that, I saw the Game Boy area, with... WOW! FULL ENGLISH VERSIONS OF G/S!!! I looked at the back, but I was disappointed that the games were in developers' catridges. They stuck out of the Game Boy, were transparent like all GBC-exclusive games, and had a sticker marked '16 MBIT CART' plus some Japanese which I didnt know. Let's hope that the real thing wont be like that... I played up to the first gym, and it was pretty fun. I learned that 'nuts' were actually berries in the game. My friend was there too, and after we both beat the first gym, we had what was probably the first ever G/S link cable battle! Yay! I had a Lv11 Chikorita(M) and a Lv8 Hoothoot(M), vs. his Lv10 Totodile and a Lv 9 Rattata. I easily beat him by using Razor Leaf over and over again

I noticed that the event board was still not up, so I decided to go up to the reps. Surprise! They were the same reps from the CNE. (including that bitch woman that beat me in Magikarp's Splash, and the Serious Man that denied me in the Battle Now! tournie) Bitch Woman noticed me, and yelled out 'Hey! It's Gip from the CNE!' and all the reps came over and shook my hand as if I was a star or something... I dunno why.

So I asked them if they would have any tournaments. Their answer? No. NO. NO! Auuuuugggghhh! It took me almost an hour to reach there by TTC, and there was nothing. Seeing my disappointed face, Serious Man offered me a free t-shirt for all my trouble. So I got a free t-shirt! Yay! Except that the t-shirt was 3 sizes too small. Serious Man said that that size was the biggest size they had. Damn. I asked them if they would give away G/S. Another rep said no, because the 10 or so copies at the Game Boy area were all they had. It would have been SO worth it if I could snag a copy a whole month before the release date, though. The rep said to go to the stop at Square One mall on October 8th if I could, because they might have some events there.

It started to fucking rain after that. I headed home, winning nothing but a kiddie-sized t-shirt. There wasnt one single person to battle me, either. I guess I'll go to Square One mall next month to see what they have. At least I'm lucky enough to get THREE stops near me (Kitefest in Toronto, Square One Mall in Mississauga, and the Oshawa Centre in Oshawa), heh heh.

Well, that day pretty much sucked, except for G/S, which was pretty cool. Amen.

The reps recognized you!? LOL

Maybe I'll see you at the stop at Square One.

Did they say they will be giving/selling g/s cartridges? or "MAYBE"

We should find out if some of us live in the same area, I'd love to get some REAL competiton. Even if it meant the end of my unbeaten record.

All Canadian tour thingies can be found at www.nintendo.ca

Edit: and just because Vancouver is a metropolitan area (albeit a small one), doesn't mean I live there...
