First off, when I got off the plane, we met a wonderful limo driver named Frank. He brought us to the hotel. When we got to the hotel, we unpacked, and soon met with the other three regional champions. There names were Rudy (from Texas), Kurt (from California), and Nick (from Washington). We chatted a bit lalala, got to know each other, and then we went to the Nintendo of America headquarters in limos. (Yeah, I had bombs ready ) When we got in, we were given name tags showing our identification. Then we went immediately upstairs and I was astounded by how happy and lit up the place was. It was like made for visitors, but yet it was a private tour, and the public isn't allowed in. We were soon met by a huge pikachu much like Darryn and his poliwhirl XD, and we had pictures taken with the Infamous Electric Rat. (He was cute though, he had little hands that were tiny compared to his body, and he kept wiggling them XD)

Then we toured the NoA completely, saw the place where NP is made (yeah, yeah, no bombs used ), met Gail Tilden, the director of Pokemon in ths US (yeah, yeah, no bombs used ) Then we went to the place where the phone calls are answered about game play, and then we went past the Game Testing Room, which NO ONE except the game testers are allowed in. Then we got little packs with a whole bunch of poke-items in them including a GBC, lots of poke-food including mac and cheese, vitamins, fruit by the foot, and lots of poke-toys! ^_^ o_O;

Then we went to dinner in the limo, and ate and talked about everything. Team Nintendo was there, and they were to be the judges the next day. Finally dinner was through, and it was about 9:00 PM (12:00 AM my time), and I was DOG TIRED. I went right to bed, no stopping to work on my pokes or anything. I could barely keep my eyes open.

Saturday, September 2, 2000

Here we go, the big day. I was really nervous. Now that I was no longer tired, I went to my game boy and got my pokes ready. I knew that this was the time I had to nickname them, and I had to nickname them somewhat related to the boards, but there was no room to nickname my pokemon after all of the people that helped me, there are only six pokemon! So, I ended up naming them as follows (corny, huh?)

Zapdos- RPGamer
Chansey- Jaxel
Snorlax- Betty
Jolteon- PokeDaily
Starmie- Azure
Rhydon- UPNetwork (they are all monstrous there, eh? ^_^)

and I had Shockwave, Fanha's Exeggutor, in there too, but since I hadn't practiced with him, I was too nervous to use him...but I did end up using him later. His name was shockwave, anyway.

Everyone went downstairs to the dining room of the hotel (and BTW, this was a VERY fancy hotel) Everyone was there, from Team Nintendo (the Judges), the two people from Golin/Harris (The PR Company...Yes, I know NickWhiz...), and the champs and their parents. I couldn't eat anything, since my times were all screwed up and I was hella nervous.

Then, after breakfast, we went outside to the parking lot, and there they were. Two Pikachu Volkeswagon Beetles. Two team nintendo members drove them, and I went in one with Rudy, and Kurt and Nick went in the other.

We drove a short distance to the mall, and everyone we passed stared at us. It was really weird.

Then we got to the mall, into the WoTC store, and then a team nintendo member explained the rules. Lalala.

THE BATTLES

They had the four kids names in a little box, and they drew them randomly. My first battle was rudy. It would be best of three.

Opponent- Rudy, 17, Texas

FIRST BATTLE

He used Snorlax, Golem, and Jolteon

I used Starmie, Jolteon, Rhydon

He led with Snorlax. I led with Starmie.

1. Starmie used Blizzard.
2. Snorlax used Body Slam.
3. Starmie used Blizzard.
4. Snorlax used Body Slam.
5. I switch to rhydon.
6. Snorlax uses Body Slam.
7. Rhydon uses Earthquake, it's down.
8. He sends out golem.
9. Rhydon earthquakes (WOW! I'm faster)
10. Golem earthquakes.
11. I earthquake, he's down.
12. He sends out Jolteon.
13. He double kicks.
14. I earthquake, it's down.

I win the first battle.

SECOND BATTLE

Rudy uses: Snorlax, Clefable, Jolteon

I use: Starmie, Jolteon, Rhydon

He sends out Clefable.
I send out Starmie.

1. Star use t-wave
2. Fable FP
3. Star blizzard.
4. Fable FP.
5. He switches to jolteon.
6. Star blizzard.
7. I switch to rhydon.
8. Jolteon thunders, no effect.
9. He switches to Snorlax.
10. I substitute.
11. I use Earthquake.
12. He uses Ice Beam, sub broke.
13. I switch to Starmie
14. He uses Ice Beam.
15. He switches to jolteon.
16. I blizzard.
17. He uses double kick (thinking i'd switch to rhydon)
18. I blizzard, it's down.
19. He sends out Snorlax.
20. I use blizzard.
21. He uses Body Slam.
22. I blizzard.
23. He uses Body Slam, CH, Starmie's down.
24. I send out rhydon.
25. I earthquake, it's down.
26. He sends out Golem.
27. I earthquake, CH, it's down.
28. He sends out clefable. (para)
29. I use Earthquake.
30. He uses Ice Beam
31. I use earthquake, it's down.

I win the second of the best of three. I win the semi finals. ^_^

FINALS

It turned out Kurt, the californian, had beaten Nick, from Seattle.

Final Opponent- Kurt, 13, San Diego.

He sends out starmie. I thought it was over for him.

I use thunderbolt. NO CH!

He uses psychic, jolteon faints.

I send out rhydon.

He surfs. Rhydon faints.

AH! What an unlucky break for me! >_<;;

THIRD BATTLE

He uses: Snorlax, Exeggutor, Starmie

I use: Jolteon, Zapdos, Starmie

He sends out Exeggutor

I send out jolteon.

I switch to starmie, assuming he'd use psychic.

He uses HYPNOSIS, but luckily, it missed.

I used blizzard. It missed -_-;

He used hypnosis. Starmie fell asleep. (I wanted him to be asleep so I wouldn't have to worry about zap, my electric flyer, getting touched.)

I switch to zapdos.

He uses mega drain.

I use double team. (my mistake)

He uses psychic.

I use drill peck, CH

He sends out Snorlax.

I use thunderbolt.

He uses body slam.

I use thunderbolt.

He uses body slam. IT MISSED. (thank you dt!)

I use thunderbolt, it's down.

He sends out Starmie.

He uses surf, zapdos faints

NOTE: I knew at this point that I was well off...all he had was a starmie, and I had a jolteon and a starmie.

I send out starmie.

I thunderbolt.

He thunderbolts.

I thunderbolt.

He thunderbolts.

He thunderbolts, my starmie's down. (Wow, he had 328 speed too!)

I send out jolteon. I use thunderbolt, it's down.

I WIN! Yes! I am the US pokemon champion (according to nintendo -_-) and am going to sydney. I gave a little speech into the camera when prompted, and the speech was about thanking everyone from these boards who helped me nonstop for this, and i explained about my nicknames and how they related to the boards.

I was interviewed by a b-roll crew, and had many pictures taken with my trophy and my little eevee good luck figure. ^_^

Well, thats it. Sorry about the skimpyness and messyness, but it was REALLY hard to remember, considering how nervous i was. About 50 people were watching O_O; After all, I didn't have someone like Iyse writing down everything that happened

Anyway, after the battle, I gave all four of them a whole bunch of addresses to bulletin boards (including azure) , PBS, Darryn's G/S site, etc.

Then we enjoyed our final day in Seattle at tourist attractions.

For Jolteon, it's the same as missing with Swift (0.39%).

Feh, about 95% of us didn't live close enough to participate, and besides, my parents won't drive me 4 hours to a Pokemon event. Avery, wherever you are, why do your parents take you to almost every tour stop? Are they rich or something? Millionaires?

Actually, they just like the idea of me going and meeting new people. You also have to take into consideration that most of the time I get to work at the event, and that makes the trip worth it.

As far as this National Championship goes, me and my parents made an agreement not to go out of state for half-a-day long events. I would have had to go to San Diego a week before the event to sign up, and be there on the tournament day several hours early. How could I have done that?

I might be going to a G/S Adventure Tour, but I won't go out of state. If it was an actual tournament, then yes, I would go out of state, but it's not, so I won't. Make sense?

And lastly, if Nintendo decides to have a REAL National Championship, then I will go, but their recent one was just crap. And I'm sure everyone but EeveeTrainer feels the same way!

Special Note: The day this picture was taken was the same day that ET learned who Ash Ketchum was.

Excessive Notes: 1. Nick was very quiet. 2. The limos had nothing to drink in them. Yet, they had cups & ice. 3. When we arrived to NOA, the nametags we received were very annoying. They kept tilting and wouldn't go on straight. 4. Our tour guide, David said we had a "Special" guest to meet, along with Gail Tilden. 5. Of course, our "Special" guest was Pikachu. 6. ET was scared of the Pikachu. "Couldn't we have had a giant Eevee or somethin'?" - ET. "No." - Me. 7. When Gail showed up to answer our questions, I was the only one to ask her a question. 8. Our very first stop was "Fun & Games" NOA's Employees only store. Slight discounts are fun. 9. Café Mario is down-right strange. 10. When we had got to the area were customer service calls were taken, David explained he was the voice on the automated machine. I recited the beginning of it, up to "For any questions about Pokémon, press 1." and everyone looked at me strangely. If I recall correctly, I think David clapped for me. 11. As David asked us if we had any questions to ask as an example for how the computers worked, we had blanks except for ET. Then ET realized he had already solved the mystery of the warp pads at Saffron. 12. Nick & I played Mario Kart 64. 13. Parents make good tote-bags. 14. Having Sea Food for dinner isn't good. 15. Giving dessert for free because of a huge delay in food makes NOA happy. 16. When learning about ET's lack of knowledge about Ash, I was ready to fall out of my chair. 17. Seattle is cold. 18. NOA has superb blankets. 19. Chocolate Coins last for a long time.

Anyway, ET won, and he was teh bestest then. Now it might be otherwise, but it doesn't matter: He WON. He IS the US Champion, you want it or not. You should be proud of the fact that an Azurian is the Champion.
