You're completely right. It has to be open to everyone. Which reminds me... quote: If you are crowned America's Pokémon Master, Nintendo will send you and your family to Sydney, Australia from September 17 through 23 to compete against Pokémon Masters from around the world in the Global Pokémon Championships!
Is that so. If so, where's the Australian tourney? This is really beginning to annoy me. If the finals are to be held in Australia, then they've got to let Australians compete. Don't they? ------------------ All your base are belong to us. You are on the way to destruction. [This message has been edited by Power Soul Rebirth (edited 08-06-2000).]

Amen to that Fanha! You can see the one I sent, but it's not very good: quote:
I have 1 word to say.FEH. You're only holding this tournament at FOUR places? Basically all of the best players in the U.S. live HOURS away from the nearest participating WotC store. Crowned America's Pokemon Master? The people that win would be the best that live close enough to the stores to get there, and I wouldn't want them representing my country. I want people actually WORTHY of being the best players in the U.S. representing us, rather than whoever lives closest to the participating stores. How do we solve this? Plain and simple. HAVE MORE PLACES PEOPLE CAN JOIN IN. How? Well, here are some ways to make it more fair: 1. Don't restrict it to just WotC stores. Use other stores like Funcoland, EB, etc.... 2. Go on another tour. This will attract the most people and will make the title "America's Pokemon Master" more fair to use. Remember the WotC Super Trainer Showdown on the Queen Mary? The people crowned there were crowned the best Pokemon players in the world, because they were able to make it to the qualifiers and the QM itself. The tour didn't go further east than MINNEAPOLIS. I don't think that's very fair, and I'll say the majority of Pokemon players in this country that can't attend this tournament because they live too far away will agree with me.
Thank you for your time. Please send me a reply.

I sent an e-mail to Nintendo last night, right after posting this topic. Here's a copy for everyones reading enjoyment:Recently on pokemon.com, you posted information about a new Game Boy tournament. This is something I have been looking forward to for a long time, but where is it being held? Four Wizards of the Coast stores. FOUR! And they're Wizards of the Coast stores! As far as I can tell, Wizards doesn't even KNOW there's a video game. So what is the problem?! The closest tournament that I could attend is 7 to 8 hours out of the way in San Diego, and my parents aren't willing to drive that far!!! Apparently, you are trying to immitate Wizards by running a "Super Trainer Showdown" for the Game Boy game. You have failed. You have also dissapointed me and many other people as well, giving me the idea that you don't even care. Run a mall tour, get some finalists, and send them to Seattle for the finals. If you want a fair "Pokémon Master" tournament, then you need to have one that EVERYONE can attend. Simple, right? I am not a big TCG battler, but I attended the "Super Trainer Showdown" anyway, in order to get some fair competition at the Game Boy game. The new Game Boy tournament could have been my chance to show what I am made of, and you have ruined that. I hope you're proud of yourselves, and I hope you can get some sense knocked into you for the next tournament. The question is, will I still be purchasing Pokémon and/or Nintendo items by then? That last line is to indicate that I believe that it will take them forever to get the tournaments right. And once again, please e-mail Nintendo about this! ------------------ (formally Imakuni?) Actually, it might not even be DSL. There are more than one organization that's contracted by Nintendo. I think Wizards has one, and some other people too. Don't know for sure. I'm still a little peeved that I might not get to participate. ARG! ------------------ Thor said to Terl, in Psychlo, "The little girl over there is begging to shoot you." I'm going to do one of those "Mewtwo's Cheapness Revisited"-type long responses, so bear with me.PsyDork: Yes, you heard right. I am now truly pissed at Nintendo. You're not the only one. PsyDork: This is something I have been looking forward to for a long time, but look at where it is being held. Four Wizards of the Coast stores. FOUR! And they're Wizards of the Coast stores! What is the problem with Nintendo?! The closest tournament that I could attend is 7 to 8 hours out of the way. If they want a fair "Pokémon Master" tournament, then they need to have one that EVERYONE can attend. Am I right?! Amen to that. The nearest one to me is in NY, and it's a good 5+ hours away. Power Soul Rebirth: Is that so. If so, where's the Australian tourney? This is really beginning to annoy me. If the finals are to be held in Australia, then they've got to let Australians compete. Don't they? Nintendo isn't making too many friends with this tourney, are they? But yes, I agree with this. It's like forbidding Australia from the 2000 Summer Olympics because it's being held in Sydney. Hey, I noticed something. This is running around the same time as the Olympics. It's the Summer Olympics of Pokemon. A completely disorganized one, but still..... Vaporeon of the mist: But looky here! Mew and Mewtwo cant attend! You cant use Mewtwo or his mommy! These will be REAL bettles! Well, that's a good part of it Vaporeon of the mist: I HAVE to go. I live in Montery so I'm going to try and beg my Grandma if we can go to San Deago All the places are most likely filled by now. Fanha: Damn, 32?! And I thought the 100 in LA having to get there about 3 1/2 hours early was bad! And they didn't even post that until like a day before...no chance in hell I could get in now... SoBs... They really need to put some more effort into these things...they should run AT LEAST 128...256 would be even better...damn we need those Internet game links...BAD! Amen to that! *skips over the letters and marketing stuff* cfalcon: It's sad that something that I think we could all be really into (exponential elimination in a tournament environment) is being held in such a limited fashion. I won't even comment on this ridiculous thing. I suspect we might see a real competition after Gold and Silver, but I'm not holding my breath. Don't count on anything. branners: I find it funny that, Britain, a country 1/50 of the size of America, gets 14 tour stops as opposed to America's 4, and we get 128 people per store, and they get 32. I find nothing funny about that. abz1986: well it IS nintendo, the money hogging pig... That be true, grasshopper, that be true. Final Comments: Someone ought to give ole Nintendo a call on the phone and get in contact with the people that organized this tourney. I'm not doing it, my parents most likely won't let me, and if I did it behind their backs, if they found out, I'd be grounded for a long time ------------------ -NickWhiz1 NickWhiz1@aol.com My FAQs OK, now I fully agree with NickWhiz1 that Branners should NOT Rep For GameFAQs...;p-psycho monkey, after branners was cheering for Azure quote:

Well, I got a response to my e-mail today. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but here it is:Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us regarding Nintendo's most recent Pokemon event. We are sorry that a city near you was not chosen. Please know that it is certainly not our intent to upset any of our faithful gamers or potential consumers. This is the first time Nintendo has coordinated a global competition. Due to timing issues, we unfortunately could not host competitions in numerous locations. Therefore, we've picked 4 regions of the United States. If this event is successful, we hope to do something like it again in additional locations. In the meantime, we are planning a number of Pokemon activities to support the launch of Pokemon Gold and Silver -- including a Pokemon Gold & Silver Adventure tour and a Wizards of the Coast tour. Stay tuned to our official Pokemon website (www.pokemon.com) for the latest information on upcoming events and Pokemon news. Your satisfaction is important to us, so when you have concerns, we want to know about them. Rest assured that your comments have been forwarded to the appropriate departments within Nintendo for further review. Those "appropriate departments" BETTER do more than review my comments. I'll be sending another e-mail tonight to cuss them out about never having any events come to Vegas. Remember, Nintendo won't do anything about this unless YOU send them more mail! ------------------ (formally Imakuni?) Beta Sig Version 1.1 I am PsyDork, the Psychic Dork. I just got my new e-mail sent off to NoA. Here's a copy:I recently sent an e-mail to you regarding your new Game Boy tournaments. One of my complaints was that there was no tournament in my area. Here is a quote from the reply I got from you: "We are sorry that a city near you was not chosen. Please know that it is certainly not our intent to upset any of our faithful gamers or potential consumers. This is the first time Nintendo has coordinated a global competition. Due to timing issues, we unfortunately could not host competitions in numerous locations. Therefore, we've picked 4 regions of the United States." That is just crap! You have already upset me because of the fact that you bring absolutely NO events to my area. I live in Las Vegas, and as far as I can tell, you refuse to do any events here regarding kids. The only event that I can remember that took place while I was living here is the Perfect Dark event at the Rio, and I was too young to attend! You did do a Pokémon tour BEFORE I was living here, but now you use the excuse that "it wasn't successful enough". I have seen the popularity of Pokémon in Vegas SOAR since you did the last tour. My suggestion to you is that you start bringing events to Vegas, or you will lose many "faithful gamers" or "potential customers". I want to be able to battle other kids in Vegas, and possibly make some new friends in the process. Prove to me that you're not as lame as you seem to be by bringing a Gold and Silver tour to Vegas. Maybe you could even make it the first tour stop? This would make up for some of the neglecting Vegas has gotten in the past. I've also heard of a tour for your new Lugia PT Cruiser, so maybe you could bring it to Vegas as well? P.S. - In your reply, don't give me that crap about how you "forwarded your e-mail on to the appropriate departments for further review", because that is just insulting. I want YOU to do something about it, and fast. Well, what do you think? Do you agree with me that it is wrong to leave out a major city and tourist attraction from all the events that Nintendo has? ------------------ (formally Imakuni?) That's a good letter PsyDork. I'm thinking of writing something similar to Nintendo about how they don't have anything close to South Carolina that's attendable for most people. Sure I COULD try tp get my parents to take me to Miami, Florida, but I know it won't be successful. They seem to assume that if we want to come, we'll drive however far it is, yet the audience Pokemon is for, is UNDER 15, the legal age to learn to drive... The one time I wish I was treated as more of a kid...------------------ ZZTRaider | zztraider@yahoo.com | AIM: ZZTRaider | ICQ: 15030114 * ZZTRaider wonders how Mew survived Labor with Mewtwo I use Mewtwo, and I don't care if you think he's cheap or not. He'll always be on my team (except in situations where Mewtwo is banned for some stupid reason), including on G/S, not for stats, but because I like him as a pokemon. So there!

Finally finished...I'm probably gonna come across as a fool, but I think I made my point.Dear Nintendo, Good evening ladies and gentlemen, of late you probably have recieved a slew of e-mails in regard to the recent Pokémon tournaments that you had open signups for in Ft. Worth, Garden City, San Diego, and Seattle. As "faithful gamers and potential customers," as seen in several previous responses on this issue, do we Pokémon players not have a right to compete for the so-called title of "America's Pokémon Master?" Under the current setup, the bulk of we trainers dont get the chance to compete. The way these tournaments have been handled has been, as put by many, "crap." The allowing of anyone under the sun to signup, and only taking the first 32 people to sign up is not a regional tournament at all, it is nothing more than a little contest. The statement of, and I quote, "This is the first time Nintendo has coordinated a global competition. Due to timing issues, we unfortunately could not host competitions in numerous locations. Therefore, we've picked 4 regions of the United States." is very paradoxical. How could Nintendo not have had enough time to plan a tour, when the British Pokémon 2000 tournament circuit is reaching an end, selecting their representive to the same competition, the so-called "Poké-Olympics?" I live in a rural part of Delaware, this letter is not some half-baked plee for events in my state, considering under Stadium Tour I had two events that I could attend. What I am both upset and disappointed at is how poorly coordinated this round of Game Boy tournaments were. Four regions, two of which were on the west coast, is not nearly enough to select a true "American Pokémon Master." How were these regions selected? If they were selected based on population, why was there not a tournament in the Chicago area, one of America's largest cities? In conclusion, I would again like to express my disgust with this format. In the future, I would love to see something on the scale of the British tour, which held real tournaments. If anything, I would like to see Pokémon treated not just as a little side show attraction, as the so called "Sidney Contest" name of this round of tournament applies. ------------------

Gah. This is pathetic. -_- I just read about this now. Pathetic. And those "time restraints" they were talking about were so blatantly obvious. They needed to launch the tournament to coincide with the Olympics. Nintendo will pay. >

Oh dear. I might start feeling sorry for you poor Americans.... nah. We Brits may have had a better tour, it even came to my home city, Bristol, often skipped by people like this. But the highlight of the visit was the opportunity to play Pokemon Snap, a game which isn't released here until shortly before you get G/S - which we won't get until sometime next year - TPM says January, ONM (spit) says Easter(!?!@*%^!). Pokemon Yellow came out not that long ago. We're still getting RPGs that you had last year. At least we get them now - not a certainty in the 16 bit era. To add to it, things are more expensive here - books, games... and after waiting a year or so for a game we get the American version, made PAL, but still full of Americanisms which make little sense.------------------ In the pokeworld, are some things a load of Tauros?
