The continuing stooooory of a quack...who’s gone to the dogs.Match #5:
AGAIN Wigglytuff man-handled Mewtwo. He fell to Blastoise, tho, who also Ice Beamed Dodrio to death. Butterfree's Flying half didn't help matters much. Ice death without even a rebuttal. Not an illustrious start for the bug.
Remember that this is the first real battling experience I’d had with Wigglytuff. I was completely shocked (and a little suspicious) about him being so good. But he’s lived up to his reputation ever since, and still continues to amaze me.
Match #6:
Match #5 went by really quickly, so I had some time to watch a guy next to me fight. He knew what he was doing, and so did his opponent. They were Double Teaming/Recovering fiends. It went on and on. The Nintendo guy called no more Recovering/Resting/Soft Boiling and then they started Substituting and Swifting.
I lost interest, but finally it ended eventually.
Then, I ended up fighting the loser of THAT match. Well, fuck. I pleaded with the Nintendo guy who watched me lose AGAIN and asked him how he could make me fight that beast. But everyone else had paired up and he was the only guy left to fight.
Oh well.
Wiggly got in one shot, then Mewtwo froze him solid. I tried Dodrio, and did pretty well for a bit, but he just Recovered and wore him down.
Butterfree showed up and put him to Sleep after a couple attempts (Mewtwo was putting up defenses).
He looked at his other Pokemon and said, "Wait til you see what I gave this guy!". Butterfree Double Teamed and his Dragonite Fire Blasted. Oh well.
Well, that sucked, but at least I finally lost to someone who knew what they were doing.
But I was still in high spirits.
When the Nintendo guy saw I'd lost again, he said "Not AGAIN!" and tried to give me a Cascade pity badge. I told him I wasn't a loser like Ash and that I might as well have just picked a badge up off the floor if he's just gonna HAND it to me. All the kids around me said "Yeah! He's not a loser!".
But I was, really.
I was all ready to call it quits, but a cute Nintendo chick talked me into one more game, saying it was only another half hour. I think I knew I was going to play one more time anyway, and it was comforting to know that it was the last match, so I couldn't possibly play another.
I was pretty tired.
Remember that I hadn’t slept the night before, and it was now about 4:30pm.
I went back and watched Cazz crush another kid with the same old routine. He started in again on this black kid, but the kid just kept getting lucky and DT wasn't doing its job. He got a status hit on Mewtwo, so for the first time, I saw his other Pokemon...Jolteon and Starmie.
The thing went on for a long while, and I started talking to some other guy at that point. He acted like he knew everything about the game, but I knew way more. He didn't know Amnesia from Disable. But he had a lot of cards, and he showed me Wigglytuff and Hitmonlee. Apparently Hitmonlee is very powerful in the card game. Finally, some respect. He also said that Normal Pokemon are resistant to Psychic.
Man, Wiggly would have kicked even more ass if that were true in the real game.
After a while I took interest the Gym match again when I saw the kid still hadn't lost.
He finally took out Cazz's Starmie with a Zapdos (ugh) and waited nervously for the next Pokemon to come up, but...that was it, he'd won. The kid went nuts and all his friends cheered. It was really cool, and I was pumped for one last match.
That was the kid I ended up defeating in my second tourney!
I decided Hitmonlee needed to make his debut.
Just two more matches to go...how will it all end?!?
