Is it just me or is spikes overated, does it DO much damage at all? Seriously how much damage is spikes going to do in you average battle?

Depends on how good you are at forcing switches. IIRC, spikes does 12% damage on every switch-in. Then think how many switches there are in every battle on GSbot (or netbattle if you prefer), then most teams with spikes have mostly defensive pokemon designed to be able to force switches and take advantage of it (charm/attract/toxic/mud-slap/etc), so yeah, depending on how many switches you force, spikes damage can add up pretty quickly, plus with spikes down you can afford to play the type-matching game, but your opponent can't really because, again, that's more switches into spikes slowly taking it's toll. On one individual switch-in, no, spikes doesn't do much damage, but look at the course of the whole battle and it adds up fast.

I still LOL at Pokemon that die on the switch because of Spike damage.

Of course, when it happens to you... grr...

Spikes own, especially when you have skarm/bliss and some decent back up, you can stall and slowly eat away at their health.
