You don't see much of Xatu, so here is my two cents about what he's worths:

Xatu @ Kings rock
Psychic
Haze
Drill peck
????? Can he get recover?

Plenty od diversity, just not the stats to back it up compared to Alakazam or Mr Mime for example.

Let me know what you think

For the last spot, I prefer Confuse Ray, or Attract. On my CSET Xatu, she had Drill Peck/Confuse Ray/Attract/Haze.
She did very well.

I use Drill Peck/Haze/CRay/Psychic myself.

Tyranitar 101, have a look at this. Hopefully, it will show you what a real underused post is like -- and some respect for Gyarados.

I'm pretty sure Xatu can't learn whirlwind.

I love Xatu though. It just looks so damned cool. Not to mention having far and away the best out-of-pokeball sound.

Statwise, it has nice SA and Speed(288), and fairly lackluster everything else. Very little staying power.

The Drill Peck/Psychic/Haze/CRay standard is pretty good, although you have to keep in mind that Drill Peck'll be coming off a 248 attack, and with Psychic on the same set, it's only really that useful for non-poison grass types(maybe for Light Screen Machamps too, but sometimes those carry counter as well).

Night Shade seems to be fairly neglected on it, but it's a pretty good option. 100 damage against every non-normal...

Giga-Drain is another pretty good choice for Golem and Rhydon. Combined with leftovers, and CRay and Attact buying time, you may be able to give it some decent staying power.

I'd probably use Psychic/CRay/Haze/Night Shade for support and mid game attacking.

Anyways, with all the various underused posts going on, hopefully nobody has forgotten about Persian.

Yeah, back in the early days of GS Xatu was a standard amongst the RPGamers. Back then, any stat-related problem was was solved by an overabundance of BPers, both Girafarig and Scizor could help it out immensely. Pity about Haze wiping your own stats though, and Xatu not having the surviveability to Whirlwind.

It's not that it's_that_bad a Poke or anything, it's just incompatible with the GSbot metagame. If someone bans Curse in the way that they've banned DT, then I'd expect to see this guy a lot more.

Pity about Xatu not learning Whirlwind, period.

Oporaca, I've read your post on Gyarados and I'm not convinced, he was awesome in RBY but the special split destroyed him, That and Rain dance/Thunder combos.

I know that the Special split hurt him, but at least he has some good physical attacks now, and Rain Dance/Thunder doesn't do much, as anyone with Thunder could pretty much destroy him regardless.

And, Gyarados may be a lightning rod, so what? In my opinion, a wise trainer should be able to use 4x weaknesses to his advantage, by being able to switch into something strong against it when an attack of that type is expected. It's like using Tyranitar with Gengar or Misdreavus. When they're about to attack with a Fighting move, switch to the Ghost. Then, you can attack with, in this case, Psychic. For Gyarados, use a Ground-type with Earthquake and, if switching is expected, Rock Slide. The sole forseeable problem is Surfing Raichu and the less-often-seen Lanturn.

AquaRock Gym is a Water and Ground gym, so most trainers challenging us will use Grass-types. My two non-gym pokemon will be Scizor and Charizard, and I'll be packing Ice Beam on every Water-type in my team, which will probably include a Kingdra.
