Yes EQ is very effective on Ho Oh, ive used a EQ - Solar Beam Combo, to counter all his weaknesses, but Curse will now find the way on Ho Oh

What about the speed loss due to Curse from Ho-oh's use of it? Is there a chance that that would allow Rhydon to go first on the second turn getting an extra hit in?

Lets try this again.

Rhydon switches in.
Ho-Oh uses Curse (360 Atk, 281 Def, 260 Speed)

Ho-Oh uses Earthquake, 155 - 182 damage.
Rhydon uses Rock Slide, 420 - 493 damage.

Ho-Oh fainted.

After a curse its defense is 417, not 281... and its attack is 537, that would probably change your numbers .

Splain how. I was under the impression that Ho-oh's max Attack was 278, & its max Defense was 358. Curse doesn't double the user's stats, does it? I'm a bit confused, as you can tell.

A Rhydon Rock Slide is just barely guaranteed to OHKO an un-Cursed Ho-oh. With one Curse (50% Defense boost), the Ho-oh will take 69-81% damage, barring CH.

Well, you've got the numbers flipped, its attack is 358 and its defense is 278. Curse raises both by one level...

Yes, In my opinion, Ho-oh is dumb! Not the Pokémon, but the way it's spelled. When I caught Ho-oh I named it Houou. I know it's liable to be spelled that way so dumb kids will pronounce it right, but, it looks gay...

BTW, just so I make sure I say it right, how do you pronounce the water legendary beast's name? Suicune... I wanna be sure I say it right or somethin.

Sue - uh - coon

.....

Also... I don't think Rhydon is anything to fear. Who uses it. Bah. If you use Curse, and they bring in a Machamp or something, the Machamp would then have the speed advantage... and Machamps are much more common... with Rock Slide and teh ownage..

Suicune... Say 'Sweet'. Now say 'Swe' in exactly the same way. Then say 'Tycoon'. And say 'Coon'. Suicune.

For reference:

Entei: "N"-tay. Nothing hard here.

Raikou: Rai (like Raichu) - Koh. Make sure to put some emphasis on the h. Rai-koo is wrong and sounds dumb.

Houou: Hoh-oh. Ho-Oh is WRONG, and sounds and looks dumb. ^_^
~Uiru thought he was the only one who renamed his Houou 'Houou' even when he had absolutely no intention of ever using it

Houou's US name sucks. As for Machamp, if Rock Slide didn't flinch, Houou could curse twice then keep Recovering until Rock Slide missed.

Or Houou could just use Sacred Fire and take the 50% chance of Burning the Rhydon, thereby reducing his Rock weakness to the equivalent of a 2x. Then Curse/Rest is easy. Either way, it's about a 50/50 fight. I still think Sunny Day on the switch followed by Solar Beam would do the trick, as you'd never intentionally send out Houou against something packing Rock Slide with the intent of using it anyways. There's also the fact that most Rock Sliders are NOT Rhydon, which throws this whole thing out the window due to the fact that most of the time you'll counter Machamp and Marowak with something completely different than Houou.

Oh, and I use the word Houou just because it's a lot faster to type since I don't have to look at my Keyboard to type it.

Suicune.

Suikun.

Sui rhymes with Yui, as in Ikari Yui.

I know I've said it before, but it's the best way I can describe it.

Houou: Hoh-oh. Ho-Oh is WRONG

Huh? They're the same pronunciation. And even if they were different, it still wouldn't be "wrong". Is Cyndaquil "pronounced wrong" because it's not the same as "Hinoarashi"?

So, is there any consensus on Suicune (Swee-kewn or Sue-ee-kewn)? How did they pronounce it in Stadium 2 or the G/S PokéKrap?

Yui, Swe, close enough.

And Hinoarashi being changed to Cyndaquil isn't intelligence-insulting and stupid. 'Ho-Oh' exists purely because NoA thought 'Houou' would be difficult for the younger crowd to pronounce. They left Gyarados alone, why not Houou? (You do not want to hear some of the horror stories I've heard about people trying to say 'Gyarados'. ^_^)

Imagine if they had to change Fuu's name to "Ho-Ohji Fuu". *pukes*

A little rant on Entei:

Offically in America, it is N-tey (which I think is gay)

Originally I thought it was going to be N-T (N-tee) which I personally think is cooler.

In Japan, it sounds like N-tey-E doesn't it?

-MK
P.S. Houou rocks in spelling & Suicune's name in the G/S Pokérap is actually kinda difficult to understand or something.

The American pronunciation of Entei is correct.

e+i in Japanese makes ei, which rhymes to some extent with "gay." Thought not as much, it almost sounds like a short e and almost sounds like a long a.

Though the American pronunciation might put too much emphasis on the 2nd syllable.

Entee sounds crappiest of all.

Entee sounds like a wussy Pokemon whose only purpose is to stab itself repeatedly and drool uncontrollably.

I doubt there's a single English-speaking person in the world who would know how to pronounce "Houou" (unless they're familiar with Japanese, of course). I always thought it was "How-ow" until I saw the English name.

Offically in America, it is N-tey (which I think is gay)

No, it's "en-tay". Watch the third movie.

In the cartoon, they pronounce Gyarados "Gyere(*)-ah-dose".

(*) Rhymes with "there"

I would guess "Gi-a-ra-do-su". Gyarados is the given 'romanji' name in Japan, IIRC.

An alternate pronounciation: Gear-a-dose. Gear as in bike gear, car gear, or even Dark Gear. ...*throws up*
