Bah to Binary!

F=15.
E=14. [Typoes are the Devil!]
Etc.

01[att][def]...
01[speed][special]...

If the ATTACK gene is ODD, your HP gene (it always starts at 0) gets 8 added to it. F is Odd, therefore HP is now 8.

If the DEFENSE gene is ODD, your HP gene gets 4 added to it. F is Odd, therefore HP is now 12 (8+4).

If the SPEED gene is ODD, your HP gene gets 2 added to it. F is Odd, therefore HP is now 14 (8+4+2).

If the SPECIAL gene is ODD, your HP gene gets 1 added to is. F is Odd, therefore HP is now 15 (8+4+2+1).

Any gene that is EVEN gives 0 boost to the HP gene.

Y'unnerstand?

Oy.

dv's are "genes". stats are computed using dv's, base stats for the species, and stat exp.

dv's are such that 15 (or f) in each will give you max stats. 14 (or e, which yay porygon says was 10 but i think she jus' typo'd) in any stat will make it 2 less than max, etc.

yer hp does not have a dv, but works as y.p. explained: off the other stats' dv's. so you could have dv's of 14 in all stats, which is GREAT, but yer hp will have dv of 0!

'n if ya really wanna learn about binary:
f is 1111, e is 1110, d is 1101, c is 1100, etc. follow d lady's advice, screwit and jus' use hex.

Monkey explanation:

Start with the number Zero.

If your Attack gene is odd, add 8
If your Defense gene is odd, add 4
If your Speed gene is odd, add 2
If your Special gene is odd, add 1

The number you know have is your HP gene.

Odd numbers: 1,3,5,7,9,B,D,F

Good?

------------------------------------
Quick Explanation: the least signifigant bit of each gene is used to calculate the HP gene. That bit also determines whether a number is even or odd, by happy coincidence. Basically, you don't have genes, you have two bytes of RAM, as shown in this example:

01101100 11110111 (this is 6C F7, for this ex)

Each bit here has a number to tell you what position it is. Here they are:
FEDCBA98 76543210

Attack equals bits FEDC.
Defense equals bits BA98.
Speed equals bits 7654.
Special equals bits 3210.
HP equals bits C840.

That's that.
