the US version of pokemon gold and silver has allready been ROM dumped onto the web (don't ask me how I know ) but so far the current set of game shark codes do NOT work on it and don't appear to even effect the game in any way, is it possable that NOA has some how locked out the gameshark and its effects to keep Selebei exclusive to there toure shows?

i don't know much about sharks but i highly doubt it, anyways, why woudl they want to? all a gameshark does is increase peoples interest after it has died down, i doubt that its even possible to stop them though.

If a game uses RAM, it can be Sharked. And I dare Nintendo to make a game without RAM...

IIRC, the Gameshark codes for the original R/G/B/Y are different than the Gameshark codes for the US R/B/Y. Therefore, the same is possible with G/S. If you have Gameshark codes for the original G/S, you'll have to find all new ones for the US version.

Well, we knew they wouldn't.

Someone with the ROM will find new ones quick enough.

Or, as I've said before, I'll fish the silly game up and do it myself, if no one jumps at the task (at least a hundred will).

Most likely all the old codes for Jp version will work on US version after being offset a few bytes, just like before. If they went encode-happy it'll take us a while, but I have access to an LSA this semester, so if they went loony I can too...

... but they wouldn't be that crazy.

cfalcon if you still have my E-mail address contact me and I'll see if I can hook you up with both roms, as I'm sure you figured out when we met at mega comics those hex values are compleatly over my head.

Nya, I've created over 1,000 codes already ^_^ I'm keeping them in a file lined up comparatively against my 5,000+ or so Japanese version codes.

Many are close to the Japanese, such as the Japanese 01FF6FD5 for all 8 Johto Badges is 01FF7CD5 in the English version...very close to the original.

ARG!!!! It's not a FAQ!!! FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions. Why not call it a database or something that makes sense?

I couldn't find any consistent pattern for converting between Japanese and English codes. For example, the English codes for changing the amount of each TM that you have is D (13) higher than the Japanese one (same as the badge code that Meowth posted above). However, the ones for modifying your Pokemon's attacks, item, stats, etc. is 3A (58) higher.

Here's a couple codes that I've found:

01xx7ED5 ... 01xxAFD5 (Amount of TM01...TM50)
01xxB0D5 ... 01xxB6D5 (Amount of HM01...HM07)

01xx23DA (Pokemon #1's species)
01xx24DA (Pokemon #2's species)
01xx25DA (Pokemon #3's species)
01xx26DA (Pokemon #4's species)
01xx27DA (Pokemon #5's species)
01xx28DA (Pokemon #6's species)

01xx2ADA (Pokemon #1's picture in battle)
01xx2BDA (Pokemon #1's attached item)
01xx2CDA (Pokemon #1's first attack)
01xx2DDA (Pokemon #1's second attack)
01xx2EDA (Pokemon #1's third attack)
01xx2FDA (Pokemon #1's fourth attack)
01xx30DA ... 01xx59DA (Rest of Pokemon #1's data; I didn't test what it all was)

BTW, anyone else notice that the English G/S ROMs are twice as big as the Japanese ones? It's no wonder that the memory locations are completely different...

Unlike the Jp -> US chromatics, the game actually seems to have had some of the structures resized... the "monster structure" should be larger to accomodate the longer US trainer and monster name, however, so anything beyond that will be offset, and anything beyond the whole thing will be offset even more.

Oh well. It still won't be hard. Good work to all who've posted so far.

Oh, I should point out that if you want to change your first Pokemon's species, you need to use both the 01xx23DA and 01xx2ADA codes. Otherwise, you will get a Pokemon that looks like a Muk but has the stats and attacks of a Pidgey, or some karp like that.

Can someone find me the code to fight any Pokemon in the wild?

I'd like to take a look at what the GS codes on GS (now hereby known as (GS)^2 on my future posts) GS are.

Why did they still leave the extra species byte on GS?

Perhaps you could show all of us this file of 1000 (GS)^2, Meowth.

White Cat, what do you mean by "amount of TM 01-HM 07"? Is that like an item code or something?

Mike Bullard and Air Farce is cool.

I'd also like a buy any item at any store mod, an infinite PP mod, and a cash mod, also the current time mod, just in case I come across a ROM on the internet, because VGB only works with the RTC if you use freeze/defrost and that's registering and paying the $15.

You wouldn't by any chance know the gene codes would you? Just putting in the ones for max hp, attack, etc doesn't work. Thx.

The fact that you did not use English names from Chikorita to Celebi makes me suspicious: are these really english version codes?

As mentioned much earlier, pokémon's stat EXP and stat gene apply to both special attack and special defense, just as they did in the chromatics.

The *only* factor that can cause a monsters SAT and SDF to differ are the base values for the monster: this means that at for two monsters of the same species and level the difference between the special attacks and the difference between the special defenses will be the same number.

One question I asked a long time ago but never tested myself or heard an answer to:

When you get stat EXP, does it give you the special attack base, the special defense base, or an average when it adds to your special stat EXP?

Good work to anyone who searched out the silly codes: at this point it's trivial, but it's still work that takes time, and I know I really appreciate not doing it, and I suspect that goes for everyone else. Thanks.

How about we put in a (GS)^2 Wish List on here and we can all take a crack at it, and whenever we find a code we will post it here? It will be so much easier... maybe not, but what the hell...

Wish List
Buy any item at any Pokémart
Infinite Cash
Infinite Coins
Key Items Modifier
Time of Day Modifier
Day of the Week Modifier
Type Modifier
Time Played Modifier
Infinite Park Balls in Bug Contest
Gender Modifier

P. S. 1: Do the item digits apply for all of the sections of the pack?

P. S. 2: How does the game figure out the score in the Bug Contest?

A few monsters are one sex, another, or neutral.

The majority have both sexes: of those, the porportions of them tend to make the difference. In all cases where the monster type doesn't proscribe a whole sex, the gender is determined wholly by the attack gene: high values yield males.

This has been covered before. Monsters are either:

1/8 male
1/4 male
1/2 male
3/4 male
7/8 male

in their distributions. So if a monster c an be female, a gene of 00 or 01 in attack will generate it: these are the only two values for eevees, for instance.

While all tauros are male, and all jynx are female.

My original findings were more along the 50/50 line, but as Meowth pointed out, several monsters share the alternate distributions.

Note with item mod codes: you do need to include Cancel as your last item, unless you want your item box to be messed up. I tried this by putting Master Ball up front. Master Ball was OK, but everything under it were question marks, and any balls that you get (Poké, Great, Ultra, Lure, Love, etc.) will be stored in the box, even though the range of question marks you can select increase. This also means that some items at the bottom of your item box list cannot be selected. This is why I want a Buy anything at any Pokémart code, as put on the (GS)^2 wish list.

Apparently, as you all know, the item digits are common among the Balls, Items, and Key Items (maybe T/HMs, but I'm not sure). You also must put the item that you change in the right spot in your pack.

As for Gender Mods, it should be somewhere between DA30 and DA59 (according to White Cat, 1st Pokémon). Someone should really check that. From other codes (posted by Mana Lugia):
DA30 and DA31 contain Trainer ID.
DA32, DA33, and DA34 contain Experience Points.
DA41, DA42, DA43, and DA44 contains current PP.
DA49 contains current level
DA4C and DA4D contains current HP.
Everything after DA4D and before DA59 are gene codes.

I'm guessing the nickname takes up seven of the spaces in between DA35 and DA40, with the other five belonging to the OT name. I'm pretty sure DA45 to DA48 contains Maximum PP (just a guess).

That leaves me puzzled as to where the gender mod is.

As for the Pokémon Digits, I don't care to take them in English, go to someplace like IGN to get them.

Where items belong (to the best of my knowledge, which is guesswork and playing up to the end of Johto):
Key Items are in bold

Well since it's based on attack, would it be possible to alter the max stat code to get the highest female attack value? That seem like it would be easier to do to me. Just a suggestion.

It uses the the Special Attack base.

That would require changing the ROM, which a GameShark can't do.

Johto Badge Modifier (from Meowth): 01xx7CD5

Therefore, Kanto Badge Modifier, based on Japanese version pattern:
01xx7DD5

So to get all the Kanto badges would be 01FF7DD5. Question is, if you enter other values, what badges would you get? One way to find out for Kanto...

That means I got a crappy Totodile! It's female!

I also missed one from cfalcon on gender . Now I get it. That means it is different from the Japanese version, right?

Go... Candy! Take hold of the bent spoon and: Hit 'em in the kisser with a Lovely Kiss! Pin them down with a Mean Look! Now that they can't switch out devastate them with Dream eater! A well placed Ice Beam! should finish the job!

Try using the Gene Modifiers, and replacing the ?? and ?? with 88 and 88.

The first 8 can be an even hex number (0,2,4,6,8,a.c.e)

Okay, I used the code below...

01883FDA
018840DA

I tried the code above, and it didn't work. I know I'm doing something wrong. I'm a dumb-@$$ when it comes to Gamesharks...

Code someone post the exact code and how to do it...?
