Well, my brother and I ended up with two red versions when he lost his and bought another and then found the one he lost. I use the newer one to experiment with gameshark codes without worrying about loosing my precious saved game.

Then one day I decided to try it on my yellow, but it wouldn't work! The opening screen, you know when you first turn on a gameboy game it reads Nintendo, and if you don't have a game in there it's all black? Well the letters were scrambled up and I couldn't use the game with the gameshark. The gameshark I have is Vs. 3.0 and it's black, and says it can be used with the gameboy color and it works fine with my red version. I thought I heard somewhere that there's a grey gameshark that's even better to use...so I was wondering if there's a better version out there that I could use with my yellow version? I'm worried that if my gameshark won't work with my yellow, it won't work for the gold and silver when they FINALLY come out in English.

Thanx! ^_^

ummm...first things first, you outta buy a mega memory card. They REALLY make you lose the worries about saves.
I dont get it. I have a GS v3.0 and it works FINE with r/b AND yellow, and EVEN my silver import! The explanation of the nintendo letters being scrambled sounds like the game is dirty. My old games do that sometimes, so I (lightly WITHOUT spitting) blow in them and they work fine.
I may be wrong but im just trying to help!

Also check to make sure that the cartridge is put in there VERY well. Make sure it is straight and as far in as it will go.

If the Nintendo sign isn't showing up, I'm pretty sure that means that the GB isn't "reading" the cart right, meaning it's dirty, or not inserted correctly/firmly, as said above.... or it *might* have some sort of protection... but I don't know how likely that is.

My yellow cart seems to be incompatible w/ GS too... the Gameshark just doesn't work with it. Well, that's a lie, it does work, but I can't see anything, when the game starts up, the colors are screwed, and I can only see the pikachu's cheeks (red dots) and when I start up the game, all I can see is ash + any other sprites that may be on the screen, nothing else, no pause menu, backgrounds, etc..

If it continues not to work... my guess is that it won't end up ever working.

Yes, I've ordered one off the Internet as I looked in several stores and couldn't find one. Unfortunately it hasn't arrived yet, and I probably would have had one sooner but I didn't know about them until I started visiting this board.

As you can tell, I don't play very many video games at all, pokemon being one of the few, so it never occured to me that it might be dirty! It's possible, thanx for the advise. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has trouble with their gameshark working with their yellow cart, GolemKong, and yes I'm sure I've put it in securely. I have used it sucessfully with the red version and have tried reinserting it numerous of times with my yellow.

I wonder if there's anything special you can buy to clean sensitive stuff like that just like I have special sprays for my CDs. I'll look into it. Thanx to all of you again; you've been very helpful and I appreciate it.

Hurray!

My Mega Memory card came today. No more worrying about my wonderful pokemon being deleted! ::grin::: So when I got the memory card I backed up all my games and my brother's pokemon games. Feeling safe now, I decided to try my brother's yellow game on my game shark to see if it worked better. (Both my brother and I have our own yellow games). Much to my pleasure it DID!! I don't know WHY the gameshark doesn't like my version and even deleted my completed game when I first tried a code on it, but it works PERFECTLY with his. Fortunately, I had enough sense to transfer my pokemon onto the N64 boxes and didn't loose any. Isn't that weird? So after asking premission, I used the Mega Memory card to switch our games so I could use the yellow catridge that works with the gameshark. Problems solved! I highly recommend anyone who has a gameshark to get a mega memory card.
