The search engine started good and got worse. What's up with that? Is there too much load on it and some feature were deliberately disabled? I notice it has lost the following features...
1- Seach by name fragment. This was good, especially when you didn't know the name exactly. Now you have to search by number, which pretty much means you need the goods.
2- Seach everything. Is this option just gone on my browser? Why would this go away?
3- Actually find things. I recently did a search on a member to find all Karp Park postings. It listed three, and I could find more than that just by clicking. Is this my bad, or does the search engine suck for some reason?

I think it all came from the new way of storing messages. Occasionally I have to manually rebuild the search index. Maybe I'll go do it now...
Now you have to search by number, which pretty much means you need the goods.
That's because the actual name isn't stored in the message file itself, just the user number. I think it has something to do with the feature that allows you to have a displayed name different from the default user name.
For the same reason, we have to leave the user number visible in the messages, which is annoying, because it causes all the "my number is lower than yours" posts.
This would all be fairly easy to fix, but they haven't yet and I'm not gonna screw around with it.
Seach everything. Is this option just gone on my browser?
I disabled it because it takes so long and uses so many resources to search a single forum that the full search was neigh useless.
It listed three, and I could find more than that just by clicking.
I'll rebuild the search index. Maybe that'll help.
