Thanks to UBB 6.0's much tougher enforcement of the rules laid out by the administrators, I can no longer modify my profile without giving the goddamned thing a "real" e-mail address. And I understand your no web-based e-mails, but since when did it decide that it needs to get all anal on those of us that had apparently been grandfathered in? I still use and always have used starcaliber1@yahoo.com as my e-mail address for pretty much everything (save some of the Sneak stuff that I prefer to have drilled into a hotmail account).

Anyway, I'd like to add my AIM contact, my favorite pokeyman, and change my sig, but until I provide the system with an e-mail address that my parents use and I don't even have regular access to, it won't let me. Is there any way you can set it so that those of us who were registered before the new policy can still get into our profiles, or is that a feature we don't get the benefit of using anymore?

Picking between Azure Heights and my e-mail account is not a choice I want to make.

I'd noticed that too. Why doesn't the software distinguish between "already registered" and "trying to register"?

Cal: ...since when did it decide that it needs to get all anal on those of us that had apparently been grandfathered in?

Since 6.05, I guess. As far as I can tell, it's not smart enough to tell the difference any more.

Unless there's something special that you can recieve when you can enter your real e-mail address, Just make up a fake one.

Take a look at my email address, For example.

When you change E-mails it's s'posed to change your password too to confirm it's an official e-mail address.

Uh, ditto. My sig is really damn old, and I got a good one lined up. And I don't have an ISP e-mail address that I don't have to share with my parents.

Is UBB done in perl or something easily edited?

If so couldn't you just find where it checks for email validity and add some test like...

code:

if ((newpassword != oldpassword) && (newpassword == webbased))
{
bitch_at_user();
break;
}

I know that's more of C than Perl, but I'm sure you get the picture. This would allow people who signed up with webbased emails to change their sigs and stats, etc. but restrict people from changing to webbased emails...

Well, if you have access to the account at all, you can just make the change and delete the message from the generic account as it happens.

Then just turn off all the thingies that let people e-mail and/or see your e-mail address. You can leave the Private Messages on (just make sure E-mail Notification is off), so people can still contact you privately.

Just a suggestion...
