Why is the spellcheck thing gone? Can it ever be brought back?

I was wondering that yesterday...here's the answer, straight from Infopop:

quote:
We have recently discovered that Spellchecker.net will no longer be supporting their ad-supported version of their service, which was included with later UBB5s.

There have been no upgrades to the service in six months. It does not function properly in recent AOL browsers and new Netscape/Mozilla releases.

...

This is very unfortunate, as it was a very good service. If there was a way we could reliably include the spellchecker.net features in UBB6, we would, I assure you.

We are currently exporing other options to bring a spelling checker back to the UBB in later releases, but we do not currently know where this service will come from or how exactly it will operate.

Sucks.

That's not the only thing that sucks about this new version. The main thing that doesn't suck is the amount of space it takes up, which is the main reason I upgraded. It does a lot of other things stupidly and a lot of stuff that worked in the old version was being promised for 6.05, didn't make it in, and is now being promised for 6.1. This is, of course, a pisspoor way to run a company, but in a world where Microsoft is praised just for rearranging everything every few years, no one seems to have noticed.

Another thing that really sucks is its dependence on Member Numbers. You'll notice how much this sucks, the first time you wanna do something and it asks for a number instead of a name. Also, you can't turn off the display of the numbers without breaking things, which is totally ridiculous, because a raw member number is just about the most useless thing you could clutter up forum messages with (except maybe for posts from some of our users who have 1 star)...

Also note the spelling error in the Infopop guy's response. Har har har.

Thanks Mr. K. It's not that important, it just helped pick out stupid typos. I guess I'll just have to proofread my post more carefully.

*MK can see it all now*

First the take away the old formula and make the "New" Azure Heights Forum.

Then, 2 years later, they come back with the original and call it "Classic Azure" hehe. This plan is so evil I should sell it to a major soft drink company!

People complained when we didn't update as soon as the new software came out. Now they're complaining about the new software. Same thing happens whenever we change the rank things.

You can't pee on all of the people all of the time.

...or something like that.

Infopop: We are currently exporing other options to bring a spelling checker back...

I wonder why they started including it in the first place.
