As far as I can tell, it saves things in sort of a cache, so some things won't get updated right away. Rankings probably work the same way.

The savings are in disk space and processing, but I think one of the side effects is that changing your sig now, will change your sig in old messages, once the thread gets rebuilt.

Another thing that kinda sucks about the new software...

So is UBB 6.0 dynamic or static?

I know the old version was static, but just guessing from the URL it looks dynamic. Also, you mentioned the page getting ``rebuilt'' which only happens with static pages.
