This has only happened to me twice, but...
I'll be traveling through an encounter area (grass, water) when I hear a pokémon sound. Both times it was a pokémon that could be encountered in that area, and both times I fought a pokémon of the species that matched the cry immediately (or within a few steps, some of which were backtracking). Anyone know anything about this? I'd bet a donut that it's probably a Mirage Pokémon. I'll catch it next time if it happens again.

Hmm. So much for that theory. Had three Clamperl cries shortly (and once not so shortly) folowed by Clamperl... and nome of them seem to be Mirage Pokémon. If I'm understanding correctly that you check to see if it's a Mirage Pokémon by taking it to that guy in Pacifidlog.

Erm, Mirage Pokemon? Does this have something to do with the Mirage Island?

I think the Pokemon sounds are simply a nice little detail Gamefreak added.
