I do my Silver team like this, is it common?

Certainly saves you boxing later - unless you're using Uiru's method, in which case, you shouldn't NEED to box.

I don't get the "training from lower levels saves you time boxing" argument, which seems to be a common belief. It's not like it takes less time to reach max EV if you start at a low level, and in all probability, it'll take a lot longer since you'll have to keep training once they have full EVs to reach Lv100.

I generally train them from low levels as well - but because I want moves they learn at low levels or because I got them at low levels to begin with, and the extra XP needed isn't really all that much of a bother to me. It takes far longer to train from lv50 to 100 than 5 to 50, after all.
