A guy on Pojo's messageboard said that a Tyranitar would get this much of an AP boost if Ancient Power kicked in:

"An AP boost would raise his stats to this:

Attack:549
Defense:477
Special Attack: 432
Special Defense: 447
Speed: 342

As you can see, AP Boost is great. "

I asked him if all of T-Tar's stats had to be at MAX to get that specific AP boost but he never replied. I also wanted to know does Ancient Power really raise all of its stats (with the exception of its Speed) to the 400's? Or could he have made up this figure?

His figures assume that T-Tar is maximum stats.

Ancientpower (if it boosts) multiplies all your stats by 1.5. So those numbers are correct, and Tyranitar with a boost is this close to god.

Speed only goes to 330, not 342. So

Anyway it's close to Trode, so it's damn near to god.

With my Hamster-like luck I would never get the boost though. But on a lighter note, That would make it like the second fastest Pokemon in the game, which would make it nigh on unstoppable.

An AP boost would put Tyranitar in 8th place for speed, trailing:

~Electrode
~Crobat
~Jolteon
~El Cheapo
~Aerodactyl
~Dugtrio
~Alakazam

Sorry.

And how many of those pokes are on regular teams? Most likely 2 - Jolt and Kazam. And if/when T-Tar gets the boost, one or two EQs or APs would kill both. So yes, it's then pretty much unstoppable.

Yeh, but T-Tar's attacks are SE against all but Dugtrio, but Trio's stats suck so much he'd be dead anyway.

Yeah, and T-tar can learn Surf and Ice Beam. Dugtrio wouldn't last long against it at all, unless it got extremely lucky.

It's been a long time since I've played the game (I still can't figure out what the hell I'm even doing in this part of the board, as Karp Park is my usual posting grounds), but when I played Ty was a damn good Pokemon. Not good enough to be cheap, but still good.

T-Tar can have a bit of variety on what it's set could be. I'm not sure what the standard is, but I believe it normally has EQ, Rock Slide/AP, and something like Crunch. One way to defeat it is Perish Song, but what would live long enough against T-Tar to pull it off? Maybe a OHKO-Whirlpool Poliwrath? I don't see anything on T-Tar that is SE against it, but again I'm not too experienced in GSC.

He's talking about anything T-tar learns that is SE against Poliwrath. And Ty can learn T-Bolt, so yep. Anyway, a ML, P-song, Protect, D-Bond Missy can take him. And I think Wobby can, too.

Yea..that's what I meant. But are T-Tar's normally equipped with T-Bolt or is that a rarity?

Dugtrio will actually take 3 Crunches from Tyranitar to down, unless there is a special drop on the first turn, and will take 2 Ice Beams for Tyranitar to down, getting 61-72% damage from it. On the other hand, Dugtrio's Earthquake does 44-52% damage, meaning it could sometimes 2HKO Tyranitar...
