..so i was playing crystal having fun with good ol' fishtauros in the battle tower{which works swell by the way} and i encounter a hitmonchan.this is easy i thought,he only has elemental punches!-_-
i managed to hit a horndrill on the first try which he HUNG ON with focus band.;p
he hit me with a icepunchXD.so i tried again, only to miss.what do you expect from a 30% move huh.when i missed he used COUNTER,and K.Oed me.i was thinking, how can this happen?i didnt even hit him.im guessing that whether u hit or not with a physical ill still counter.gee i never knew that.

if this is a glitch or not, woudnt this be another way to counter ohko's for people who think the're cheap?you can depend on the 30% hit and use counter!if this is known, stupid me then.

Maybe the CPU is a retard, didn't take the failure into account and Countered the previous Drill.

Actually, when any OHKO misses you can Counter it back for an OHKO, its not a glitch just something very weird.

This seems impossible. It must be a glitch. OHKO's can be Countered, but not as another OHKO. If a lvl 5 Hitmontop gets Horn Drilled & survives via Focus Band, he can Counter it back, but will only be (his full HP - 1) x 2.

Hera, I think you'll note he never said it was countered as a OHKO, in fact, it was merely countered and KO'ed his Pokemon.
Thus doing exactly what you said it would do, since Tauros would not have over twice the HP of Hitmonchan, especially after being hit with an Icepunch.

dark hera, mu..i know that the ohko could be countered on the turn where it was hit(focusband) BUT IT WAS JUST STUPID how i missed and still be countered.so does this work for all physicals?or just horndrill/guillotine/fissure only?

Actually, it isn't a glitch at all. That very same thing happened to me once on my Gold version. I went into Dark Cave and ran into a Level 25 Wobbuffet. I thought I'd toy around with it and KO it with my Level 100 Machamp's Fissure attack. So I use Fissure and miss and Wobbuffet uses COUNTER to KO MY Machamp!! I couldn't believe it. But it isn't a glitch.

Does that works even if a Substitute is up? This way one could put a Sub against the enemy OHKOer and be sure not to be fainted while Countering the move back...

...Another way to stop OHKOers. For those who thinks FishTauros is cheap.

This is something I've never heard about before. The example with the wild Wobbuffet leaves me wondering if it is a OHKO or not. I seriously doubt that a wild level 25 Wobbuffet has more than half the HP of a trained level 100 Machamp. Perhaps some more testing should be done.

Edit= fixed a typo

This is some good stuff. Will it work in link battles too? I'll be battling a guy with a FishTauros soon, this could be a great strategy to use... hehe...

Does it work on mIRC as well? I'd love to Counter all of those people with the OHKOs and knock them out.

What if... Counter works reguardless of if the attack hits or not...

For example, have a Wobbuffet Vs Machamp...

Have Wobbuffet some how get his evasiveness up really high... (either shark on double team or baton pass him some)

Then, have Machamp do ANY regular attack, like Body Slam and have Wobbuffet do counter...

Now, if Body Slam misses and Counter works to return the damage, that would be sweet...

P.S. Here's some relevant research I did with one of my favorite Pokémon... Wobbuffet, a little while back...
